Top Ten Books I Resolve To Read In 2013

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Check out the upcoming topics to start posting!

Thank goodness for this topic! I just got a bunch of books for the holidays (obviously!) and still have a bunch of books sitting on the shelf for review and fun, so I absolutely need this list to hold myself to ;-). And yes there will be some shaming here that I still haven’t had the chance to get to some of these! As always, all the covers link to Goodreads pages for your convenience.

Divergent by Veronica Roth The Mermaid's Madness by Jim C. Hines Veil by Aaron Overfield Cinder by Marissa Meyer Gunmetal Magic by Ilona Andrews Fate's Edge by Ilona Andrews Frost Burned by Patricia Briggs The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson Dreams Underfoot by Charles de Lint The Fault in our Stars by John Green

  1. Divergent - I am completely behind on this beloved series, even though I own Divergent and got it last year from my wonderful boyfriend! It just keeps getting set aside for other books that “have to get read” for various reasons, but no longer!
  2. The Mermaid’s Madness - I loved the first book of this series, but haven’t had the chance to continue the series, but now I’m determined :D.
  3. Veil - This one is a review book and it is a beast! It’s a great book, but it’s just so long that I keep getting side-tracked, so I absolutely must finish it early in the new year.
  4. Cinder - Another very popular book of 2012 that I’m behind on, but I’m gonna catch up now!
  5. Gunmetal Magic - If you couldn’t tell, I love Ilona Andrews, and I borrowed this one from my mom over the summer and still haven’t had a chance to read it! I need to read and return her copy to her, so it’s on the list, haha.
  6. Fate’s Edge - I got my mom the first three Edge books, also by Ilona Andrews, for her birthday this summer, and she was super awesome and let me borrow the third one BEFORE she had a chance to read it! I however haven’t had a chance to read it yet D: I know, worst daughter ever *shame* therefore I must read it asap!
  7. Frost Burned - I’m also a huge Patricia Briggs fan, and the latest Mercy Thompson book is coming out just before my birthday if I recall correctly ;-). Gotta read it!
  8. The Way of Kings - I loooove Brandon Sanderson, but The Way of Kings is another huge book that I haven’t found the time to read yet, so I’m going to carve out some weeks this year to read the latest awesome Sanderson :D.
  9. Dreams Underfoot - I like to read older fantasy in addition to the latest releases, and my friend leant me Dreams Underfoot aaages ago, so I need to read and return this one soon, ie in 2013, haha.
  10. The Fault in Our Stars - I know this is a Sci-fi/Fantasy blog, but I do want to branch out of my comfort genres once in a while for those gems, and I hear that The Fault in Our Stars is one of those books, so I’m going to start with that one! It has to go on the list, though, since otherwise I’d keep putting it off since I’m so nervous to read such a sad book D:

Whew, I’m so glad that I made this list, now I just have to remember to refer back to it ;-). No promise on sticking to the order though! What about you? Link me up your list and let me know if you are a new follower and I’ll be sure to follow you back :D.

  1. I loved Divergent and Cinder so I hope you get to those soon :-) And I haven’t read anything by Sanderson yet, but hope 2013 is the year I fix that!

    • Yey me too! There was a read along for Sanderson last year, so I’m hoping that Once Upon A Time hosts another one, so much fun!

  2. Cinder and The Way of Kings are on my tbr, too. Way of Kings is so intimidating, I’m almost scared to start it! Maybe The Emperor’s Soul would be an easier Brandon Sanderson to start with. :) Divergent and especially The Fault In Our Stars are some of my favorites– hope you enjoy them and get around to reading all of these books!

    • Hehe, Emperor’s Soul would definitely be easier, and is freaking awesome :D I’m thinking of doing a read along for Way of Kings later in the year since I know a lot of people feel that way ;-)

  3. Awesome list! Cinder, Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars are all on my list too! :D My TTTs are at Musings on Fantasia and LKHill. Happy New Year! :D

  4. Way of kings is definitely worthy!

  5. Dreams Underfoot is a fantastic collection, one of my favorites of de Lint’s many short story collections.

The Way of Kings is one amazing book. We read it in 2011 as a group read and had a really great experience discussing it week after week as we were making our way through it.

I’ll be reading the first of that Patricia Briggs collection as part of Worlds Without End’s Women of Genre Fiction Challenge as I have yet to read any of her work and I consistently love Daniel Dos Santos’ covers for these.

    • Excellent to hear! My friend was horrified I hadn’t read any de Lint so I’m trying to rectify that ;-)

Way of Kings would be a marvelous group read, I’m jealous I wasn’t around for that! Maybe I’ll have to bribe someone into hosting another one :D

Yey! I looooove Patricia Briggs and am very excited to hear you’re starting the Mercy books. She also has an excellent spin off series, Alpha and Omega :D

  6. Divergent is on my list, too. I hope you get to The Fault in Our Stars! I loved that book so much. It’s superb.
Here’s my Top Ten Tuesday: http://meganm922.blogspot.com/2013/01/top-ten-tuesdaybooks-i-resolve-to-read.html
    Happy new Year!!

    • Yey! It’s funny, I’m seeing Divergent on a lot of lists, sounds like it was that book that everyone meant to read but hasn’t had the chance! Thanks for stopping by, off to check out your list :D

  7. Fault in our stars and divergent were booth great reads! I also have jessica series on my tbr

    list

  8. Divergent is really awesome, and so is TFioS, just for different reasons. I hope you will love them!

  9. I was a late comer to Divergent and was so glad that I read it. I would also like to read The Fault in Our Stars. Great list of must reads. Best of luck with your goal to fit them all in during 2013.

    • Not as late as me :D Hehe, yeah, I’m not sure how I’ll do fitting them in, but I’m determined *game face* ;-)

  10. I hope you’ll love Divergent as much as I did – it seems you’re not the only one who didn’t manage to get to this one in 2012. I’ve been seeing it on many lists :)

Both Cinder & The Way of the Kings are must reads for me to in 2013! I hope you get to read all the books on your list!

A very happy New Year to you Anya – All the best for 2013 ♥

    • I know right?? It’s funny how many lists it’s on, I wonder why that is…. Maybe it’s the size… intimidating ;-) Happy new year and thanks for stopping by :D
