Book Blogger Confessions: Blogging Goals 2013

Book Blogger ConfessionsClick the button for future topics to join in :D

I’ve decided to join in with For What It’s Worth and Midnyte Reader‘s Book Blogger Confessions, a bi-weekly discussion to get us all thinking about blogging related topics :D. This week’s topic is a great one to help me map out goals for the new year!

Q: What are your blogging goals for the new year? Are you making any changes or testing out new ideas for reviews or organization? Have you joined any challenges?

Awesome, time for a goal list :D

  1. Followers/Pageviews – I’m still in my first year of blogging, so increasing the size of my follower base and blog is still a high priority for me.
  2. Giveaways – To progress towards the previous goal, I’m planning on hosting giveaways much more regularly. Giveaways have been a fairly intimidating thing for me in the past because of the whole element of money being involved, but I realize that they go a long way towards attracting people and spreading the word about a blog.
  3. Events – Because of my school schedule, I shy away from participating much in community events, however that isn’t a good way to make friends and get more traffic. I’m going to try to find time to participate in at least two of the major community events this year and host smaller events such as read alongs and giveaways myself.
  4. Read and Review Hop – Some of you may know about the Read and Review Hop which I host each week (and if not, I hope you’ll click the dragon with the book over on the right there ->), and one of my goals is to continue trying to grow this hop with a couple new ideas I have brewing ;-).
  5. Commenting – I’m good at responding to comments on my blog and going to other people’s blogs when they leave links, but I want to expand past the circle of blog friends I already have (not that I don’t adore you all :D) and make sure I comment on blogs outside of my regular stops weekly. That being said, if you want me to stop by your blog, all you need to do is leave a link to a post ;-).

Q: What are the trends you noticed in blogging from 2012 and what do you hope to see for the blogging community in 2013?I think we can all agree it’s been a bit of a rocky year for the community and I hope that the negative incidents were not trends that will continue. While it’s not really a trend, I do think Parajunkee made a good point a few weeks ago in her rant about originality, even if the way she said it wasn’t perfect, in that we have been relying too much on pre-made content from publishers instead of writing our own content. I hope to see original posts and fresh ideas in the new year, since I often find myself skimming through my reader in search of discussion posts and reviews that catch my eye and skipping over a whole lot of posts. I realize that this section sounds rather dreary, so to fix that, I’ve also seen a lot of smaller blogs popping up and supporting each other. I know I personally have made a lot of friends through other small blogs, and don’t worry about “making it big” since we have such a great community already!

So what are your blogging goals for the new year?? Link me up and I’ll definitely stop by! Also if you are a new follower, let me know and I’ll follow you back :D.

  1. For the three years that I’ve been blogging, I have a tiny blog with an even tinier readership. People who’ve been doing this as long as I have usually end up with hundreds of hits per day, and I… don’t even want to mention the fraction of that number that I get. I’d love to expand my blog this year, and increase my readership. Maybe see if can get together the stuff to do a couple of giveaways. I don’t usually participate in book tours, but that might be another thing I ought to look into.

Best of luck to both of us, with improving our blogs!

    • It seems like it is very variable though! Giveaways I’ve found do help a lot, though I never had much luck from blog tours, maybe I never did the right ones *shrugs* Good luck!

  2. I really need to get brave and start commenting on more blogs! As an uber new blogger it feels like everything I want to do is sort of pointless until I get at least a little bit of popularity! I think its kind of funny because everyone tries to get in with the bigger bloggers, but the newer ones are the only ones that i’ve found to actually be friendly! I really want to do your review hop, I just have to remember it!

    • Hehe, you don’t need to be brave, everyone looooves comments! Honestly, I think you should run with your ideas, because when people see a blog with fresh ideas, they will want to stick around and see what else you do. And I completely agree, I think that it’s more fun to nestle in with your group of smaller bloggers than try to become on of the big time bloggers. A lot of the bigger blogs spend literally hours upon hours every day reading and blogging just to keep up, and I am just not interested in stressing out about it that much! I want to have fun :) Yey! If you subscribe (;-D) then you’ll remember when the post comes out on Thursday!

  3. I’ve gotten a little bored with my own blog content so I’m hoping to mix it up some in 2013. It might not even be all bookish and I hope people will stick with me.

I used to be a good commenter but I had so much going on last year that I had to cutback. i want to get back to that this year.

    • Oo, that’s a great idea! I like bringing in book related things that aren’t completely about books. Like, I love to make bookmarks and post about them :D I also hear you on the commenting! School just completely sucked out my ability to comment much at all!

  4. I like your list of goals! I’ve slowed down (okay, stopped) my giveaways, but maybe I’ll work one in in a few months. And with you on commenting more — that’s on my goal list. Happy new year!

    • Yeah, I hear ya, especially during the holidays I just didn’t see the point since people were likely getting so many books thrown at them already, now that it’s the new year though, I want to host more :D

  5. totally agree on all your points . Good luck and I hope that you can accomplish all of your goals.

  6. Great list of goals! I’ve only done a few giveaways because of the cost, but it is a good way to attract traffic to your blog. I’m trying to become more involved in the blogging community, so love the idea of your Read & Review Hop! Here’s to a great 2013!

    Alexia’s Books and Such…

    • I agree, and I don’t like the idea of needing to bribe people to come to my blog… but even just a $10 book depository giveaway is fun since it lets someone get a new book and isn’t too much of a pain to your time or wallet. Also the book depository has a referral links program so you can earn credit if people buy books through links from your blog, so you don’t even have to pay for giveaways if you earn enough credit! Thanks for stopping by :D Off to check out your blog!

  7. Really interesting ideas – it is hard to stand out in the blogging world (book & otherwise) and sometimes it’s so hard to generate unique ideas. But I do love it when I see it.

    • Completely agreed! I stress about coming up with things and then the time it takes to write posts that are new instead of the easy ones, I don’t manage it every week at all, but I also find reading posts with new ideas much more fun, so I hope to see more this year :D and do more myself *brainstorms*

  8. Great list! This is the first time I’ve seen your blog and it’s adorable. Good luck with all your goals, I think they’re good ones. I’m going to check out your hop now…

    • Thanks!! I was really excited to find your Book Blogger Confessions, they are so much fun, I just wish I didn’t have to wait two whole weeks ;-)

  9. I totally agree on all points. I have yet to do a giveaway for the same reason! I also worry a lot about trying to do original content..there are a lot of book blogs and a lot of similiar content on them all. So for me it’s important to be different and stand out!
We have a lot of similar goals!

    • Yey! I have to say that Rafflecopter does make it easy though and feel free to email me if you want help in the future! I worry about original content, but at the same time there is only so much stressing I can do over this hobby of mine ;-) So don’t worry too much either!
