Best Audiobooks of 2014 Giveaway Hop (US/Can)

I Love Audiobooks Giveaway Hop

My Favorite Audiobooks of 2014

I’m so excited to be participating in the Best Audiobooks giveaway hop again this year :D. First I’m going to share the five audiobooks I loved most this year and then I’ll be giving away one Audible book in addition to the grand prize of three audiobooks of the winner’s choice :D. The giveaways are open to everyone as long as you can use Audible books!

Dreamer's Pool by Juliet Marillier Dark Triumph Hounded

White Cat Legion Skin Deep

  • Dreamer’s Pool – I have a feeling this is going to be on a lot of lists this year! Dreamer’s Pool is actually an Audible production and I have to say that I’m looking forward to a lot more productions straight from Audible if they are all going to be of this high of quality! The story of Dreamer’s Pool is completely amazing on top of three excellent narrators! Highly recommended for fans of dark fairytales ;-). I kind of want to go back and listen to it all over again.
  • Dark Triumph – This was for sure my favorite of the trilogy and happens to be the only one I listened to on audio! The female narrator did a great job of doing both Beast and Sybella’s voices believably. Apparently darkness is the trend so far since that is probably what I loved most about Dark Triumph: how dark and broken Sybella was!
  • Hounded – It has obviously taken me way to long to finally get to this urban fantasy series, but I did and loved the first book! The different mythologies were lots of fun and the narration is simply phenomenal! I actually recommend specifically listening to this one instead of reading since Oberon’s voice is just too much fun (the Irish Wolfhound for those who haven’t read the series ;-) ).
  • White Cat – I really enjoy the alternative history that Black has crafted with this trilogy and I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that I haven’t actually finished the trilogy yet but I very much plan to! This was an audiobook where the narrator doesn’t do very unique voices for the different characters, but I ended up liking it all the same!
  • Legion: Skin Deep – No link for this one since I haven’t actually finished it at the time of writing this post! However, I love the narration and am already quite impressed with it, so I think it will be on the top 5 list for sure ;-). Leeds hallucinates 47 different people and each of them is given a unique voice by the narrator which is really no easy feat, hence how impressed I am :D.

  1. Dreamer’s Pool sounds perfect for me. I also think I’d like White Cat. I have read The Iron Druid Chronicles, haven’t listen to the audiobooks, maybe someday I’ll listen to them.

    • All caught up on Iron Druid chronicles? I loved book one and then the next two haven’t been working for me as much and I can’t decide whether to continue :(

  2. Thanks for the giveaway! I’ve been wanting to get to Dreamer’s Pool for a while, so I’d be very excited to listen to as an audiobook.

  3. All new to me but Hounded looks good, and I love a narrator with a voice that just pulls you in.

  4. I would love to try the Iron Druids series on audio, I loved the Kate Daniels series, Ugly Love and Big Little Lies.

    • Iron Druid is so much fun! Oo, the Kate Daniels has a good narrator? I might have to re-listen to that series on a binge sometime, ha. Every time the next book comes out, I just want to start at the beginning and relive it all again *sigh*

  5. I have only read the first book, but I look forward to Dark Assassin. The same goes for Kevin Hearne’s series. I’m pretty new to audio books so I look forward to scoping out the narrators and establishing a few of my favorites.

    Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

    • Well take these as a great place to start :D I definitely do a search when I find a narrator I like to find out what else they’ve narrated, it’s fun :D

  6. i really want to listen to Dreamers Pool sometime soon! Have heard such wonderful things about it.

  7. Of course DREAMER’S POOL was on my top list as well!

  8. One of my blogger friends LOVES Juliet Marillier, so I’m excited about the idea of Dreamer’s Pool being a great audiobook :D. I didn’t know Audible produces audiobooks too. I’m glad to hear it’s got an amazing narrator and great quality (one of the worst audiobooks I’ve listened to was this one where I could hear the narrator turning pages :(). I am a huge fan of dark fairytales, so you are definitely selling me. I also need to catch up on Dark Triumph before I read Mortal Heart, so you’re also selling me on checking out DT. I wonder how the darkness is conveyed in audio form…. WHITE CAT!! I haven’t finished the trilogy, but EVERYONE seems to love this series from Holly Black. It’s a shame when the narrator doesn’t try to do unique voices for different characters (sometimes it works, and it sounds like this time is one of them?). Oooh, you’re making me excited about audiobooks again. I got a little off track in listening to them when winter started because it was too cold for me to care about slipping in headphones… I’m glad you had such great experiences with these books :)

    • Haha wow, a narrator audibly turning pages??? That is madness! But yeah, Audible reached out to me to review it since it sounds like it was one of the first ones they put out and so far they have been doing a great job with them!

Yeah White Cat definitely works for me. I think it’s because it is first person so it makes sense that the narrator sounds like the MC mostly ya know?

  9. I need to try Hounded and I think I have that book laying around here Maybe I will try listening instead. :)

  10. Dark Triumph and Dreamer’s Pool sound fantastic. Thanks for the recommendations!

  11. I don’t read a lot of fantasy, but Dreamer’s Pool looks great. I also picked an Audible production in my top picks, An Untamed State. It also was an excellent production. Thanks for the recommendations!

  13. Interesting, I had no idea about any of these besides Hounded (which I loved)
I got a chance to listen to my first audible production, The Dragons of Doorcastle, and I really enjoyed it, looking forward to checking out Dreamer’s Pool. Looks like they are producing high quality books :)
Thank you for participating and sharing your favorites with us :)
Happy Listening! recently posted…Best Audiobooks of 2014 Blog Hop/GiveawayMy Profile

    • Yey, always happy to push new books on people :D I’m really happy with this Audible productions thing and thrilled to hear The Dragons of Doorcastle was good! I hear that there aren’t that many dragons though eh? >.>

      Thanks for hosting!

  14. I still haven’t finished the Curseworkers trilogy either. We’re both behind. ^^; Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!

  15. Yesssssssss I love so many of these! I refuse to read the Iron Druid chronicles in print because the audio is just so good, and I really loved the audio for White Cat as well. I haven’t started Legion: Skin Deep yet, but it’s on my audible account, and I loved Dark Triumph so I’m excited to see what the audio is like. I haven’t heard of Dreamer’s pool but you have me hooked with dark fairytale :)

    • Completely agreed! The only exception would be getting an ARC I guess ;-) YES, listen to Dreamer’s Pool NOW, it will blow your mind!

  16. Hounded looks good. I would choose that one on Audible ;)

  17. Luke Daniels is the BEST! He was my number one listed for last year, and he just gets better as you get further into the series. I love Oberon, but I love all of his other voices even more. I agree wholeheartedly — he could make a telephone book engaging :)
Liza Barrett recently posted…Weekend Writing Warriors: January 24 #8sundayMy Profile

    • Oo that’s great to hear! I’ve been conflicted about whether to continue the series since book three didn’t really work for me, but if Luke Daniels’ narration gets better, that might be worth it right there, haha!

  18. I thought Dark Triumph was the best in the series, too. Most people seem to be raving over Mortal Heart, but I actually found it the least enjoyable of the series. I agree about the darkness in Dark Triumph. It made the story and the romance that much more meaningful. I wish my library had it on audio, because I appreciate well-narrated audiobooks where you can actually distinguish between the two main characters. Sometimes that’s a problem! Have you listened to anything narrated by Jim Dale? He is my all-time favorite. I wish he could narrate my life.

    • Yeah, Mortal Heart was fine for me but I just didn’t click with Annith as much as I did with Sybella. Apparently I like heroines that scare the crap out of me ;-)

Oo, I haven’t listened to Jim Dale I don’t think, I’ll check him out on Audible :D

    • I just saw that Jim Dale narrates The Night Circus :D Score!

      • Yeah, I listened to that last month. I actually enjoyed it more as an audiobook than I did when I originally read it, and I think that was mostly due to Jim Dale. I hope you enjoy it! He also narrates the Harry Potter series, which I listen to every year. :)

  19. Oooh I hadn’t heard of White Cat before, adding it to my TBR!!
Melissa Mason recently posted…Best Audiobooks of 2014My Profile

  20. Oh Luke Daniels! I swear he could read me the telephone book and I would be happy. I really do enjoy his narrations :)
