Book Title Alphabet Challenge

Book Title Alphabet Challenge

And by challenge, I mean a thing that I am going to try to do in no particular rush and you are welcome to join me ;-). But really, what I need are suggestions! While I was updating all my old reviews to have the book title and author info for my archive pages, I realized that I’m so close to having reviewed a book title for every letter in the alphabet. I’m still missing some weird ones though, so I was hoping you could help me come up with books that are fun to read that fit the missing letters! While I’m at it, I’ll try to get my reviews by author list all completed as well ;-).

So here are the letters that I am missing and would very much appreciate suggestions for. I’m aiming for sci-fi and fantasy book, since those are what I generally like :).

Title Alphabet Challenge:

I’m missing titles that start with the letters: K, N, Q, X and Y. I have Kingkiller Chronicle listed for K, but neither of those books are actually called that, so I’m not counting it ;-). Also books that have “A ….” or “The ….” are being counted by the second word since otherwise this would be much more painful, haha. If you have suggestions, please please leave a comment!

Author Alphabet Challenge:

While I’m at it, I would love suggestions for sci-fi/fantasy authors that have last names starting with: I, Q, U, X and Y. This one is probably going to be a lot harder, but if we all brainstorm together, I’m sure we can figure some out!

A big shout-out to the Ultimate Book Blogger Plugin for existing so that my book reviews are automatically indexed by title and author. I would definitely not have been able to do this otherwise since I don’t keep track of this sort of thing well >.>.

How many letters do you have to go on your titles and authors (if you keep track of these things, haha)? Do you have suggestions for me, since I will love you forever if you do! Am I just a silly compulsive goose for caring about this? (You can say yes, I know I am ;-) ) Also if you want to do this yourself, you’re welcome to use the graphic if you don’t mind linking back to me!

  1. Hmmm this is a really neat idea. How about Night Circus (The) by Erin Morgenstern for ”N”? I haven’t read it yet but it’s sitting on my shelf as we speak! Heard great things about it too :D I actually have a ”Q” book too but it’s a fourth book in a series >.< the Septimus Heap MG fantasy series…the 4th book is called Queste. If shipping weren't a $#?!* I'd send you the series hehe. On my TBR shelf, I do have Queen of Shadows (Shadow World #1) by Dianne Sylvan. For ''Y'' there is Year of Shadows by Clair LeGrand (an MG paranormal that JUST came out!)

For authors, I have a ''Y'' one, Gene Luen Yang (last name is Yang) and he's written Avatar:The Last Airbender Manga. Their cheap and quick reads but not so fun if you haven't seen the animated series -D'oh! There is the Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey though! For ''I'', I have two authors listed on my TBR: Justina Ireland for Vengeance Bound and Alyssa Rose Ivy (last name Ivy) for Flight (The Crescent Chronicles) which sounds especially fantasy-ish! Hope this helps!

    • How could I forget Night Circus?? I still really need to read that one, it was a book of the month last month but I didn’t have time D: and fifth wave! Also on my shelf, perfect. I knew making this post would help me get the last ones :D

  2. Wow, this is a tough one! I’m guessing you’ve tried this already, but googling “books title beginning with x” got me to a helpful goodreads list :) I can’t come up with any of the top of my head though.

    • So I didn’t actually think about googling that oops! For some reason I only google for things that aren’t book related, haha

  3. How about Kraken by China Mieville? This book sure is different.

  4. Jane Yolen and her book The Curse of the Thirteenth Fey works for a Y author. Breadcrumbs by Anne Ursu, Kitty and the Midnight Hour by Carrie Vaughn for K book, (Or the newest Kitty book if you prefer a newer release. The all start “Kitty and…”) Nightshifted by Cassie Alexander, The Quartered Sea by Tanya Huff (which is book 4 in a series, but the whole series or anything by this author is worth reading) Xone of Contention by Piers Anthony (which is a Xanth book, so that works doubly well for X).
That is all I can think of right now, sorry I couldn’t hit them all.

    • Omg that was amazing! Thank you so much for all the recommendations especially since they are all fantasy of one kind or another :D I’m super excited to read those MG especially, I love MG fantasy, hehe. This was quite impressive, don’t even worry about not getting them all ;-) Have you done a similar challenge or are you just amaze-balls at finding fantasy titles and authors? >.>

      • You are most welcome. I have read most of the ones I mentioned, or they are in my to be read pile because I have read something else by the same author. (the Xanth one is very far along in the series, but I don’t think it matters much.) And I read predominently sci-fi/fantasy, with a heavy leaning towards fantasy, so I just browsed through my shelves. Good luck with the rest of your letters.

  5. OMG. You KNOW I’m going to be joining you on this challenge! Just as soon as I have time to put my challenge pages together!! :D

I don’t know if you’re restricting yourself to genres or fiction/nonfiction, but Quiet is a great book for your Q requirement. It’s nonfiction, though, so… Hmm.

    • I’m trying to keep to sci-fi and fantasy just because I know I’ll be more excited to read those genres. I might have to go with Quiet though if I have trouble finding another in those genres ;-) Nonfiction is always fun too!

  6. I’m also participating in this challenge in some GR group. For these letters I have:
K – Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami, N – North of Beautiful by Justina Chen, Q – Quiet: The Power of Introverts by Susan Cain, X – XVI by Julia Karr (still looking for a better one), Y – Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks.

  7. Of course the first thing that came to my mind is WoT. Book 11 = Knife of Dreams. Prequel = New Spring

  8. Oh – The Marriage Bureau for Rich People, Farahad Zama

  9. K – Knife of Never Letting Go, Patrick Ness. That’s all I can come up with off the top of my head.
