Bout of Books Goals and Updates!

Bout of Books

Bout of Books Read-a-thon!

Yey, it’s time to start Bout of Books! I’m taking time off of school stuff this week to try to somewhat catch up with my review pile and lessen my stress a bit ;-). Therefore, I’ll be mostly focusing on reading as much as I can and posting updates when I need a break.

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 12th and runs through Sunday, May 18th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 10 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

Books to Read

I’m aiming to read nine books this week, two a day for four days plus another one over Friday/Saturday/Sunday when I have less time to read. I also am hoping to finish the two audiobooks that I’m in the middle of! I’m going to try to do an even mix of the April and May books that I’m behind on as well as shorter and longer books, hence the page number and publication date in the details :).

Expiration Day Foundry's Edge The Lascar's Dagger A Creature of Moonlight Scan  Memory of Water The Castle Behind the Thorns Earth Star Dark Serpent

  1. Expiration Day (4/22/14, 336 pages)
  2. The Foundry’s Edge (4/15/14, 448 pages)
  3. The Lascar’s Dagger (3/18/14, 512 pages)
  4. A Creature of Moonlight (5/6/14, 320 pages)
  5. Scan (5/1/14, 336 pages)
  6. Memory of Water (5/8/14, 352 pages)
  7. The Castle Behind the Thorns (5/27/14, 336 pages)
  8. Earth Star (4/15/14, 285 pages)
  9. Dark Serpent (4/29/14, 560 pages)

I also have about four hours left on two audiobooks so I’m going to try to finish them when I take walking or driving breaks ;-). I’m also trying out listening at 1.25x speed to get through them a little faster :D. It’s working well since I already know the narration is wonderful and it only gets a little distorted at this speed.

Dreams of Gods and Monsters The School for Good and Evil

  1.  Dreams of Gods and Monsters (4 hours remaining)
  2. The School for Good and Evil (4 hours remaining)

I’ll also be trying to write my reviews as I go and catch up with one that I finished this past weekend, so 12 reviews this week? Sure :D

Updates

I’ll post updates for each day along with any challenges I do, though I’m going to try not to let myself get too distracted with the internet ;-).

Monday

  • Number of books progressed on today: 2
  • Total number of books finished: 0 :(
  • Books: Lots of progress on Foundry’s Edge and a little on Dreams :D
  • I didn’t do as well today as I’d hoped since I got a late start and had trouble focusing during the day. This is also the only day that I’m at the boyfriend’s so when he gets home from work, there is no more reading time! However, I am at 79% of Foundry’s Edge and have an hour and half left on it, so I should easily finish tonight or tomorrow morning. I’ll be driving home early tomorrow and so will definitely finish Dreams of Gods and Monsters and make more progress on The School for Good and Evil. I didn’t write any reviews or posts today since I was trying to finish Foundry’s Edge, so I’ll have to have a binge post writing time tomorrow ;-).

Tuesday

  • Number of books progressed on today: 4
  • Total number of books finished: 3
  • Books: I finished Foundry’s Edge at about 12:11 am ;-). I then finished Dreams of Gods and Monsters while driving this morning. I made some progress on School for Good and Evil after finishing Dreams since I had more driving to do. I then tackled Expiration Day which I had gotten to about 8% on previously. It ended up being slower than I hoped for, but oh well, it’s done!
  • Also good news, I wrote my review for Graduation Day and Foundry’s Edge today along with other post maintenance stuff. I still need to write my review for Dreams and now Expiration Day along with a discussion post tomorrow. I’m starting The Castle Behind the Thorns tonight but will probably only read a few pages before falling asleep (hopefully, since I have to get up at 6:30 am!).

Wednesday

  • Number of books progressed on today: 3
  • Total number of books finished: 4
  • Books: I finished The Castle Behind the Thorns today and started Earth Star! I also listened to about an hour of The School for Good and Evil and will be able to finish that on Friday’s drive :D.
  • Most importantly, I wrote three reviews today!!!!! And a discussion post :D. I feel awesome *happy dance*.

Thursday

  • Number of books progressed on today: 2
  • Total number of books finished: 5
  • Books: I finished Earth Star today and it was so much awesome!!!! But now I’m going to be veering away from my planned books because Midnight Thief showed up in the mail today and well, you can’t actually expect a girl to resist that temptation right???

Friday

  • Number of books progressed on today: 2
  • Total number of books finished: 6
  • Books: I finished School for Good and Evil while driving to the boyfriend’s today :D. I still need to write my review for Earth Star and now SG&E, so probably some writing tomorrow. I don’t have much time to read on the weekends, so this is probably my last day of progress, but six books in a week is pretty good I’d say ;-).

Wish me luck! Are you joining in Bout of Books? What are you reading? -AnyaAnya from On Starships and Dragonwings

  4. Oooh cool. The coolest part being that because I was home sick yesterday, I accidentally have already started to participate. You have some intense goals there. Hope you manage them and more!

    • Thanks! Still behind unfortunately, but it is nice to have some reviews in the pipeline at least!

  6. Finley Jayne says:

Wow, great goals! I’m also doing the readathon, but as of 4:17pm Monday afternoon, I haven’t even picked up a book yet-spent the day with a sick kid at home and ended up at the pediatrician….still hoping to get at least an hour or reading in tonight though!

I just found your blog and I’m now following through bloglovin :)

    • Haha, well I didn’t make it, but six books is still good! If I could read more on the weekend, I might have made it, but the boyfriend just has to hang out with me ;-)

  8. Bout of Books is definitely a good time to get caught up on your review pile! And it looks like you have some good ones on your list.

Listening to the audiobook sped up just a tad is a great idea! A nice way to get through them faster, and sometimes it’s just needed. I sometimes get impatient with audiobooks; they’re just so long! Haha.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy Bout of Books! Good luck with your goals!

    • Speeding up the audio worked great since I had been feeling like the narration was a tad slow/overly drawn out, so it was perfect :D

  9. That is an intense goal – and listening to sped up audiobooks? That’s hardcore commitment!
