Buried in Books! #8

I somehow completely forgot about some of the review books that I accepted a while back, and so got surprised when I got mail :D. It’s a nice surprise ;-). I didn’t, however, forget about the Brandon Sanderson book The Emperor’s Soul that I ordered and was late, curse you Amazon Prime for taunting me! But anyway, look what I got!

Bought:

The Emperor's Soul by Brandon Sanderson

Omg I’m so excited for this novella! It’s set in the same world as Elantris, which I looooooved, though a different continent apparently? I’m super pumped in any case! I just wish the post office was less frustrating! Hopefully by the time this post goes live, I’ll have the book safe and sound :).

For Review:

Tormented by J. Ann Trouganda by Daniel J. Strait

There aren’t a lot of ratings for these books, so I don’t really know what to expect! One looks urban fantasy and one sci-fi, so I’ve got my genres covered at least! I think they are both relatively short too, so that will at least help me get through more books faster, haha. Anyone heard of either of these review books?

Borrowed:

Web of Lies by Jennifer Estep

When I saw that Smash was having an Elemental Assassin Read Along, I had to get in on the action. I love read alongs! But no way I could buy so many books! So interlibrary loan to the rescue! I need to catch up, since I’m a month behind, so I requested the first and second books. Unfortunately the second book arrived first. So I got Web of Lies this week! But I can’t read it, since I don’t read books out of order and the nice library lady said that the first book is on its way. Hopefully next week I’ll have happy news! The postal service apparently just hates me….

What did you get this week? Have you read any of these books? Planning to? You are planning to read Sanderson’s lastest novella right? Right?? *stares* ;-)

  1. Oooh so many things to discuss haha! Ok,so really REALLY loving your haul this week Anya. They’re all new to me…I haven’t read Elantris yet but I just recently discovered Brandon Sanderson and I’m very eager to read more. I have two of his books at home on my shelf just calling to me…LOL and yes Elantris is pretty high up on my reading list and ‘to-buy next’ shelf ;)

As for your other books, well Web of Lies looks right up my alley! I’ve added book one of the series to my reading list so thanks for featuring it :D I’m also really curious about both Tormented & Trouganda! I’ll be looking out for your review for both! Happy reading & thanks for stopping by my StS

    • Yey! I will warn you that Elantris was Sanderson’s first book, so you can tell he was still learning some of the tricks, and while the ideas are freaking awesome, the writing is his weakest in my opinion. But that means that it just gets better in later books :D

I’m so happy that my haul this week will feature the first book of the Elemental Assassin series, haha, silly library!

Oof, so I tried to read Trouganda this weekend, since it’s short, and wow the writing is very stilted… I just don’t think it’s going to work for me, so I’d probably recommend against that one. It always makes me sad when good ideas get ruined by writing that really needed another round of editing :(

  2. Oohh, awesome haul!
I haven’t read these but I love the look of Emperor’s soul and the Elemental Assassins!
    Thanks for stopping by
    My STS!
    Happy Reading =D

    • Thanks for stopping by! :D It does seem to keep happening that I’m more excited about borrowed and bought than review, but oh well! Thanks for linking :D

  3. happy to hear your enjoyed Emperor’s Soul, I’m looking forward to your review! :)

  4. Chrystina says:

I haven’t read any of these either, and I agree with Lauren that the Elemental Assassin series sound really interesting. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  5. I haven’t read any of these! But the Elemental Assassins sounds great. Thanks for checking out my list.

  6. Jennifer Estep adult series is really good. It keeps getting better with each book in the series.

    • Oo, good to know! My friend Stochastic did a guest post a week or two ago and thought the first book was only average, so I’ve been a little nervous about starting the read along, but series that just keep getting better are always good :D

  7. Hannah @ Once Upon A Time says:

I need more Sanderson in my life!

  8. Love the cover for The Emperor’s Soul, you just can’t look away from it. Definitely want to snag a copy of it for my shelves, just entirely too many books and not enough money! xD

    • Agreed completely! Also, I just finished it, and to slightly give away my upcoming review, it’s totally getting 5 stars!!! Freaking awesome.

      • Cannot WAIT to read your review. I think, thanks to you, when people start asking me about what books I’d like for Christmas its going to be all Sanderson with only a few exceptions. xD

        • Haha! I think that’s what my wishlist is going to look like too >.> Like actually it’s going to be all Jim C. Hines and the Sanderson books I haven’t read yet >.> :D

          • He’s [Jim C. Hines] on my list too, again thanks to you. I think that is one of my favorite parts of blogging and getting to know other bloggers, learning about all of the awesome books that are their favorites and quite often destined to be my own. Its hard not to get excited about something when someone else is. :]

          • Completely agreed! And read alongs, for similar reasons, since nerding out together is so freaking fun :D

          • I haven’t gotten to do a read-along yet! Unless the ones with my little book club count and we haven’t had a group read in FOREVER. I’ve been pestering just about everyone I know to read A Game of Thrones because I really want to give it a shot but I don’t want to go it alone. xD

          • Ooo, you know… we could co-host one…. I’ve read the first book already, but I wouldn’t mind reading it again >.> <.<

  9. Jessica@a GREAT read says:

OOh nice! These are new to me but I hope you enjoy them all!

    Here’s my STS
