The Goblin Emperor Giveaway

Today I’m thrilled to be able to give away a hardcover of The Goblin Emperor courtesy of Tor! This giveaway is US and Canada only as per Tor’s rules, sorry! The Goblin Emperor has an amazing 4.65 average rating on Goodreads currently (out of 34 reviews) so I’m really excited to read this one as well :D.

The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison

A vividly imagined fantasy of court intrigue and dark magics in a steampunk-inflected world, by a brilliant young talent.

The youngest, half-goblin son of the Emperor has lived his entire life in exile, distant from the Imperial Court and the deadly intrigue that suffuses it. But when his father and three sons in line for the throne are killed in an “accident,” he has no choice but to take his place as the only surviving rightful heir.

Entirely unschooled in the art of court politics, he has no friends, no advisors, and the sure knowledge that whoever assassinated his father and brothers could make an attempt on his life at any moment.

Surrounded by sycophants eager to curry favor with the naïve new emperor, and overwhelmed by the burdens of his new life, he can trust nobody. Amid the swirl of plots to depose him, offers of arranged marriages, and the specter of the unknown conspirators who lurk in the shadows, he must quickly adjust to life as the Goblin Emperor. All the while, he is alone, and trying to find even a single friend… and hoping for the possibility of romance, yet also vigilant against the unseen enemies that threaten him, lest he lose his throne – or his life.

This exciting fantasy novel, set against the pageantry and color of a fascinating, unique world, is a memorable debut for a great new talent.

Doesn’t that sound awesome?? All right, let’s get this giveaway started! Normal rules apply: no PO boxes, the winner has 48 hours to respond to my email, I check entries so please don’t cheat! And remember US and Canada only this time.

  10. The only book I can recall reading with goblins in it would have to be Hilari Bell’s The Goblin Woods, which I really enjoyed.

I love fantasy books, it’s like my favorite genre to read, so I’m always looking for new authors and books to discover. And this one definitely sounds like an interesting read.

Thanks so much for the chance to win a copy. =)

  13. This is quite possibly my most Want To Read fantasy novel this year. I loved her Melusine books.

  14. Tracy and Laura Hickman had a goblin as a major pov for a book. The name escapes me…

My fave fantasy is the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. My fave alltime book is The Lake of the Woods by Tim O’Brien.

  15. Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell! Also, the Earthsea books.

  20. I actually don’t think I’ve read any other books with goblins in them. Well, I suppose there’s The Hobbit; that’s got some goblin action.

As for favourite fantasy… oh criminey, don’t make me choose! There are so many good ones out there that I’d have a hard time narrowing it down to 5, let alone one single ultimate choice!

  21. I just read it and it is all I can do not to enter anyway. I want a hardback copy. Don’t press click, don’t do it Nathan..
