In this hilarious new fiction series, Louie the unicorn searches for stardom in New York City. Louie's story is brought to life with a unique visual approach, combining real New York photography with funny character illustrations.
'Dear Ma and Pa,
The New York School for Performing Arts is the perfect place for a unicorn like me. So far it has been totally AWESOME! Madame Twirler says that 'pigs will fly' before I get the lead part in a show. Man, I would LOVE to see that! After all, New York has a unicorn in town, so why not flying pigs?
Love you more than cake,
Note: I received an advanced copy of Louie Lets Loose from the publisher. Some things may have changed in the final version.
- Unique illustrations – This book is full of black and white photos of New York with cute simple line drawings of the fantasy creatures layered over top.
- Tongue-in-cheek humor – A lot of the humor of this book is a satirical, over-the-top ode to the fantasy genre. Louie’s parents and friends also make some great observations which Louie conveniently doesn’t get, but add to the fun.
- Unicorn hired to work in a donut shop – Seriously, what better job combo is there????
- Advanced young readers might pick up on some of the more off-color jokes that are clearly meant to appeal to adults reading this book with children. Which could be entertaining, or aggravating ;-).
Have you read this one? What did you think? Are you excited for it if you haven’t gotten to it yet?
