Read Along Group!

SF/F Read Along Group

New Read Along Group!

It probably isn’t a secret that I quite enjoy a read along for getting to those older books that you might otherwise keep accidentally putting off ;-). For a long while now, our little read along group has just relied on emails all around for coordinating read alongs and that works all right. Except that what if someone misses the announcement?? Or worse (and quite likely) what if there are other read alongs that I’m missing out on because I don’t follow those blogs?? D:

So our little group of readers decided that a Goodreads group would be a handy way of keeping track of all the read alongs we’d all like to do and possibly recruit more people to post about their own read alongs! Or if you’d like to lead a read along but want to find others to help, this would be a great place to post :D.

Since we just finished up Three Parts Dead, we are planning on starting the second book, Two Serpents Rise, after the holiday! Two Serpents Rise is really more of a companion novel than sequel by the looks of it, so feel free to jump in and join us:

Two Serpents Rise

The new novel set in the addictive and compelling fantasy world of Three Parts Dead

Shadow demons plague the city reservoir, and Red King Consolidated has sent in Caleb Altemoc — casual gambler and professional risk manager — to cleanse the water for the sixteen million people of Dresediel Lex. At the scene of the crime, Caleb finds an alluring and clever cliff runner, crazy Mal, who easily outpaces him.

But Caleb has more than the demon infestation, Mal, or job security to worry about when he discovers that his father — the last priest of the old gods and leader of the True Quechal terrorists — has broken into his home and is wanted in connection to the attacks on the water supply.

From the beginning, Caleb and Mal are bound by lust, Craft, and chance, as both play a dangerous game where gods and people are pawns. They sleep on water, they dance in fire… and all the while the Twin Serpents slumbering beneath the earth are stirring, and they are hungry.

Gah, so excited!! There is also chatter of a Kushiel’s Dart read along starting sometime soon:

Kushiel's Dart

The land of Terre d’Ange is a place of unsurpassing beauty and grace. It is said that angels found the land and saw it was good…and the ensuing race that rose from the seed of angels and men live by one simple rule: Love as thou wilt.

Phèdre nó Delaunay is a young woman who was born with a scarlet mote in her left eye. Sold into indentured servitude as a child, her bond is purchased by Anafiel Delaunay, a nobleman with very a special mission…and the first one to recognize who and what she is: one pricked by Kushiel’s Dart, chosen to forever experience pain and pleasure as one.

Phèdre is trained equally in the courtly arts and the talents of the bedchamber, but, above all, the ability to observe, remember, and analyze. Almost as talented a spy as she is courtesan, Phèdre stumbles upon a plot that threatens the very foundations of her homeland. Treachery sets her on her path; love and honor goad her further. And in the doing, it will take her to the edge of despair…and beyond. Hateful friend, loving enemy, beloved assassin; they can all wear the same glittering mask in this world, and Phèdre will get but one chance to save all that she holds dear.

Set in a world of cunning poets, deadly courtiers, heroic traitors, and a truly Machiavellian villainess, this is a novel of grandeur, luxuriance, sacrifice, betrayal, and deeply laid conspiracies. Not since Dune has there been an epic on the scale of Kushiel’s Dart-a massive tale about the violent death of an old age, and the birth of a new.

So come join us reading awesome books! And propose your own ideas for books you’d like to read with everyone!

  1. Awesome! I won’t be jumping in on this first read-along, but I’m joining the group and will hopefully participate more in the future :)

  2. I really wish I could do a read-a-long but I just don’t have the time. I’ve read both of these anyway, so at least I can follow along and reminisce and see what other people think.

    • I know the feeling! I’m hoping to do more of them during the summer to give myself some structure without classes, haha

  3. Nice idea! I’ve joined a few buddy reads through Goodreads groups, but have never done a read along. I’ll join the group.

Thanks for putting the Goodreads group together. I am enjoying learning how to navigate it, etc. Very exciting! I think eventually we should be able to move away from emails for most of it and coordinate via Goodreads.

  6. This looks really cool! I’ve joined the group :D

  7. Count me in for a Two Serpents Rise readalong. A copy of that has been sitting on my bookshelves for too long now, and readalongs are great motivation for me to get off my butt and read books I should have already read ages ago. :p
