Spoils and Tribute

Spoils and Tribute

Spoils and Tribute is a feature of On Starships and Dragonwings where I tell you about the books I’ve bought and received recently. I promise that I paid for all my spoils and I’m not letting the “tribute” go to my head ;-).

Hello all! I was very excited to get a couple of books that I had been anxiously waiting to arrive, so it’s time for another mailbox post :D. I’ve been trying to restrain myself in terms of buying books recently since I already have so many I need/want to read, so it’s still a pretty short list this week, hehe.

Tribute

The White Forest The Thinking Woman's Guide to Real Magic Kinslayer

The White Forest is from Touchstone since it is being re-released in paperback with a new cover! I couldn’t find an image of the new cover and don’t have a camera on me currently, but it has pretty white trees and a blue background :D. I also had requested The Thinking Woman’s Guide to Real Magic a while ago because it just looked like so much fun and I was finally approved! I got an email about a possible giveaway for that one too, so let me know if you’d be interested in that.

Update: Omg I just got Kinslayer in my mailbox! Thank you MacMillan :D

Spoils

The Lies of Locke Lamora

Like I said above, I’ve been resisting buying any books recently because I have so many to read as it is, but I had to get the audiobook of this one since I had an Audible credit just sitting there :D.

What have you gotten recently?

  1. Ooh, I’m reading Kinslayer now and it’s really good! I’m liking it even better than the first book. Enjoy everything, and good job on not buying too many books! It’s hard to resist all the shiny new books eh?

    • That’s awesome to hear, I had some hang-ups with the first book, so I was hoping the second was better :D I’m pretty sure I’m going to fail at the book buying ban this week though since the next Kate Daniels book is coming out and there are a couple other books I’ve been meaning to buy >.>

  2. Miss Mimz says:

Yay for another fellow book-buying resistor LOL I’ve been SO good since BEA though and honestly I was on a ban before going…and before that it was post-Xmas ban so I think (hope) my ban will be coming to an end within the next month *crosses fingers* Anyways, congrats on all the sweet loot this week! KINSLAYER!!! *ahem*, so I still need to read Stormdancer but it’s a top priority wishlist item so just seeing book 2 gets me all worked up :D I’m also curious as to how you’ll like The Thinking Woman’s Guide to Real Magic! Enjoy all of these Anya

    • Haha, I completely understand being excited for the sequel to a book you haven’t quite gotten to yet. I neeeeeed to read Throne of Glass and For Darkness Shows the Stars before the sequels come out D:

  3. Jenn @ A Glo-Worm Reads says:

Did you enjoy Stormdancer? I’m so interested in that series. I love the covers! Great new books! Enjoy them.

    • I was so-so on Stormdancer honestly since I could really tell it was a debut ya know? A little rough around the edges still, but I’m excited to see if Kinslayer has gotten past the normal new author stumbling blocks (too much description mostly…)

  4. Nice job on getting Kinslayer! I still have to read the first book, and I’m hesitant to do so because of the way I hear the author mangles the Japanese language. But still, I’m probably going to give it a whirl anyway; may as well do it sooner rather than later, right?

    • Yeah, the author definitely was going for Japanese inspired future society, not Japanese itself per-say ya know?

  5. Oh, I love your title for this feature, it’s perfect for the fantasy genre! =D Clever!

I have ‘The White Forest’ to read too, I got it from Netgalley a while ago but haven’t gotten round to reading it yet. I also have ‘The Lies of Locke Lamora’ – I got it in the multipack with ‘The Name of the Wind’ that I posted on the book group discussion board.

    • Thanks :D I completely missed The White Forest on Netgalley, didn’t it come out a while ago? I was surprised to get a review request for it, but apparently promoting the paperback is important?

Sweet! I was thinking of getting that pack since I need to read Lies of Locke Lamora, but I had already got the audiobook, ha, oh well, I’m liking the narration so far :D
