Spoils, Tribute, and Planning to Pillage

Spoils and Tribute

Spoils and Tribute is a feature of On Starships and Dragonwings where I tell you about the books I’ve bought and received recently (my version of Stacking the Shelves). I promise that I paid for all my spoils and I’m not letting the “tribute” go to my head ;-). Planning to pillage is just my version of Waiting on Wednesday where I share books that have caught my eye!

I’ve actually been shockingly good at not requesting too many books and therefore am exceedingly excited about those that I’ve gotten instead of feeling overwhelmed ;-). This is also about a month’s worth, so it is not nearly as crazy as it looks >.>.

Iron Trial by Holly Black

Gideon Smith and the Brass Dragon (Tor, Unsolicited) – I got an eARC of this one and wasn’t expecting a physical copy to show up, but yey dragon books to add to the collection!

The Bloodline Feud (Tor, Unsolicited) – This is apparently two books in one? I’ve been meaning to read Charles Stross for a while, would this be a good place to start Charles Stross experienced readers?

Captive (HarlequinTeen, Gifted) – Eeeeeeeeee! The wonderful Pabkins got an extra copy of this one and since I adored book one, she sent it to me along with an adorable robot drawing :D. I plan to read this very soon and then have a giveaway, possibly with it signed since Aimee lives nearby ;-).

Shadow Scale (Random House, Gifted) – Omg omg omg, yes I have the best friends EVER because when one of my friends got a copy of Shadow Scale, she thought of me :D. I get to keep it, so I’ll be doing a giveaway once I finish it, which should also be soon!

The Seventh Sigil (Tor, Unsolicited) – I was a fan of Margaret Weis back in college when I was reading the Dragonlance books, but when I opened the first page of this one I wasn’t inspired to pick up the series. Thoughts?

The Iron Trial (Scholastic, Solicited) – Yey! I might have already bought an autographed copy, but now I can read and then donate this copy and keep my autographed one safe :D.

Dreamland (HarperCollins, Unsolicited) – Oh look, a fantasy art book showcasing everything I despise about how women are depicted in fantasy art. It even includes MANY examples of the infamous “I just slayed something in a chainmail bikini because I’m a female warrior incapable of wearing real armor” pieces, some with men looking manly. Eff this shit. I’m always grateful to be sent books by publishers, but I’m horrified that this even exists.

Princess of Thorns Dreamer's Pool The Memory Key Shatterwing

Infinite Harmony by Tammy Blackwell Beastkeeper The Oathbreaker's Shadow The Galaxy Game

Princess of Thorns (Random House, NetGalley) – I’ve already heard great things about this one so I am thrilled to have been approved for it! It’s going to be a gym read very soon ;-).

Dreamer’s Pool (Penguin, NetGalley) – I’m quite excited for a solid fantasy with beautiful writing, and it sounds like Dreamer’s Pool is just that :D.

The Memory Key (HarperCollins, Edelweiss) – This was in the batch of Harper books on Edelweiss the other week and it looks like it could be an interesting sci-fi premise.

Shatterwing (Momentum, NetGalley) – Dragons you say? I’m slightly confused about when and where this was first published, but dragons!

Infinite Harmony (Indie, Author) – This is the newest Tammy Blackwell novel and I’m soooooooooo excited! It has a new couple but the guy is one of my favorite secondary characters, so yey! This is literally my next eARC because I adore Blackwell’s writing.

Beastkeeper (Macmillan, NetGalley) – This book looks so awesome! I’m just completely in love with the cover and can’t wait to see what the inside is like, haha.

Oathbreaker’s Shadow (Flux, NetGalley) – I’m so intrigued! This looks like a cool fantasy in an atypical setting, it could be awesome or horrible, we shall see.

The Galaxy Game (Random House, NetGalley) – I’ve had my eye on this one ever since the cover first came out. It sounds like solid and awesome sci-fi with a fresh new voice, hopefully I’m right :D.

Spoils

I was invited to go to a publicist breakfast at my local bookstore and grabbed all these exciting books! Yes, that is a full ARC of Mime Order and yes I will be doing a giveaway as soon as I read it! It sounded like there was some interest in a giveaway for The Bane Chronicles too? And you may have noticed that a giveaway for Mortal Heart is already scheduled :D.

I bought all new and beautifully matching hardcovers for the Sarah J. Maas signing so these are all signed as well as gorgeous :D.

IMG_1916

While I was waiting for the Maas event to start, I couldn’t help buying these three lovelies >.>. The copy of Iron Trial is signed too! I love my local bookstore so much for getting such great signed books in.

IMG_1902

I nabbed A Dragon’s Guide to Care and Feeding of Humans and Stolen from my friend’s extra ARCs, yey! I also had to buy the Girl of Fire and Thorns Stories and the only reason I haven’t read them yet is because omg have you seen how many great books I have waiting to be read?? I need to quit grad school or something to read them all >.>. Also I bought a hardcover of Ring and the Crown so that I could get it signed when I met Melissa de la Cruz a few weeks ago :D.

Planning to Pillage

(i.e. new to the wishlist)

Seriously Wicked

I will read anything Tina Connolly writes after loving her Ironskin series so much! I’m really excited to see that she is jumping right into a new series now that Silverblind is almost out :D.

Nil Unlocked

I wasn’t planning on reading the sequel to Nil since I wasn’t thrilled with how it ended and the plot in general, but the blurb for Nil Unlocked promises everything that I wished had been in Nil (namely answers!). Therefore, how can I resist? Also I like the cover >.>.

Lion Heart

I need it. I NEED IT NAO! Haven’t read this series? Fix that please ;-).

What have you gotten recently? What are you looking forward to?

  1. SOOOO many good books, I don’t know what to comment on first!

Do you think the guy in the background on the cover of The Iron Trials looks he’s wearing a Death Eater mask? Please tell me I’m not the only one who sees it!

I wish I had a local indie book store. I asked at BAM at the mall if they ever had events/ARCs/etc, and none of the employees knew what I meant. Sigh.

Seriously??? That is so depressing D: Somewhere even within an hour or two’s drive could be worth investigating though if they have really exciting events
