Spoils, Tribute, and Planning to Pillage

Spoils and Tribute

Spoils and Tribute is a feature of On Starships and Dragonwings where I tell you about the books I’ve bought and received recently (my version of Stacking the Shelves). I promise that I paid for all my spoils and I’m not letting the “tribute” go to my head ;-). Planning to pillage is just my version of Waiting on Wednesday where I share books that have caught my eye!

I hate it when you are going out of town and get a notification that a package will show up right after you leave. It was seriously like Fedex was taunting me and I kept wondering what was in the package all weekend! But I’m better now since there were two lovely books from Candlewick waiting for me when I got back :D.

I love getting to know quality small-press publishers! I’m so excited to find out about all of these since I hadn’t heard about any of them before *dances*.

A Dark Inheritance (Unsolicited, Scholastic Press) – Middlegrade with the superpower of being able to alter reality, score!

The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf (Unsolicited, Candlewick Press) – More superpowers! But this time darker and gritty, I’m pumped.

Feral Curse (Unsolicited, Candlewick Press) – So this is a second book, anyone read the first, Feral Nights? Thoughts?

Fireborn by Keri Arthur The Buried Life by Carrie Patel Some Fine Day by Kat Ross The Blasted Lands by James A. Moore

Fireborn by Keri Arthur (NetGalley, Signet) – Phoenixes! I’m so excited to be on the blog tour for this one too since it means giveaways too :D

The Buried Life by Carrie Patel (NetGalley, Angry Robot) – I had this one in the Planning to Pillage section when I started this post and then I got approved for it, yey! Steampunk murder mystery for the win!

Some Fine Day by Kat Ross (NetGalley, Strange Chem) – As soon as I got the email that this was on NetGalley, I jumped to request it. I really hope the toads aren’t a lie >.>

The Blasted Lands by James A. Moore – (NetGalley, Angry Robot) – I loved how unique the first book in this series, Seven Forges, was and am really interested in where things are going to go after that ending :D.

There was a signing for Kelley Armstrong in my area, so I scored a copy of Sea of Shadows and got it signed :D. Then I had to buy a copy of The Forbidden Library so that I could see the finalized interior illustrations (I was actually a little disappointed with them… Anyone else?). Even though I haven’t quite finished book one, I need to get School for Good and Evil #2 so that I’m ready to jump right in, and then similarly, Plus One is just so pretty I couldn’t resist buying a copy even though I haven’t read my eARC yet >.>. I totally buy books just because I think they’ll be pretty on my shelf….

Planning to Pillage

(i.e. new to the wishlist)

Firefight by Brandon Sanderson

Guys guys guys!!!! Loooooooook!!!! Firefight has a cover and it is in the same style as Steelheart and it’s all of the awesome :D. 2015 come to meeeeeeee!

The Voyage of the Basilisk

Confession time: I haven’t read the first two Trent books *hides from tomatoes* and I know it is a huge problem given my dragon-addiction. However, I own them! And they are actually a significant reason for me trying to cut down on ARCs so that I have time for older books :D. And therefore, I’m super excited for book three on principle!

What have you gotten recently? What are you looking forward to?

  1. Nice haul! You’ve got a ton of great looking books this week, a lot of them are new to me as well so will definitely be adding them to my wishlist. I have an eARC of Plus One and love the cover, nervous to get to it now because I keep seeing bad reviews. Fingers crossed we both find the story as amazing as the cover! I hope you enjoy your books :) My STS.

    • Really?? I think that there is a certain thing that bugs people about Plus One, so it’s just hit or miss whether that sticks out or not, I have seen good reviews, so there is hope ;-)

  2. I really like that Brandon Sanderson has progress bars for his writing because I suspect I’m going to be waiting on him to write a lot of books soon. I’m currently listening to Words of Radiance and I think my next audiobook might be Steelheart. And if that’s as good as Words of Radiance, I’ll probably be looking to read more of his books too :)

    • Haha, I totally know what you mean, I have to resist refreshing the page to see if he’s updated it ;-) Steelheart is definitely different than Stormlight Archive, but I loved it for being new and still awesome! Just have a tissue box ready >.>

  3. I haven’t read the first two trent books either but totally need to buy them! So is that the feeling you are getting from The Buried Life? Steampunk murder mystery! I didn’t get a sense of it really at all from the description. I need to buy The Forbidden Library! I got A Dark Inheritance as well but don’t think I will have time to read it.

    • That is totally the feeling I got for Buried Life from the description on Goodreads? I could be completely misinterpreting though :D

  4. Lovely haul Anya! I hope you love A World Without Princes as much as I did! Sea of Shadows looks awesome, I can’t wait to get into my copy too XD and YES FIREFIGHT!! Total immediate wishlist action going on haha The rest of your pretties are new to me but I hope you love them all xx
