Spoils, Tribute, and Planning to Pillage

Spoils and Tribute

Spoils and Tribute is a feature of On Starships and Dragonwings where I tell you about the books I’ve bought and received recently. I promise that I paid for all my spoils and I’m not letting the “tribute” go to my head ;-). Planning to pillage is just my version of Waiting on Wednesday where I share books that have caught my eye!

I’m trying out a suggestion from a couple of you and going back to splitting the weekly wrap-up into two posts. In an effort to round out Spoils and Tribute, I’m going to try attaching Planning to Pillage on as well. Thoughts?

I had an exciting week for packages (when it rains, it pours right??) and also gifts :D.

The Door (solicited from Scholastic) – I snagged an ARC of this one earlier, so this is actually a duplicate, but I’m happy to read the finished copy now!

Mirror Sight (unsolicited from Penguin) – This series looks so cool, but it is the fifth book and I haven’t read the first four and have you seen that page count?! Anyone read this series?

The Falconer (giveaway from LibraryThing) – I have this one as an eARC already, but I’m excited to have won a physical copy! It looks so cool and pretty :D.

Earth Star (solicited from Pyr) – I mentioned I was interested in this one a while ago, read the first one and submitted that review, and didn’t actually hear back for a while, so I wasn’t sure if I’d be getting a copy, haha. Fortunately, the lovely people at Pyr are awesome and now I get to read about aliens!

In the Shadows (solicited from Scholastic) – I was very excited to get a copy of In the Shadows earlier this week since I love Kiersten White’s writing. And then I was surprised when a second copy showed up shortly after! I’m smelling a giveaway ;-).

Sorrow’s Knot – I met up with the lovely Pabkins of Not Yet Read this weekend and she handed me this one <3. I’ve been hearing awesome things so I’m glad to be slightly closer to getting to read it, haha.

Rebel Belle – There was a signing in Pabkins area last week and she snagged me a copy and got it signed :D

Rebel Belle Signed

I’ll be honest, I didn’t realize this was a fantasy! But now I’m excited ;-).

I had a bit of book therapy this week after working late most nights to get a final project done. Therefore, I of course had to by Dreams of Gods and Monsters and Horizon since they both came out :D. I also noticed that Storm had signed copies so I snagged one ;-).

Planning to Pillage

(i.e. new to the wishlist)

I haven’t actually read Scorched yet, but it is about dragons and sounds cool so I’m excited that book two has a cover!

    • Hehe, awesome, I completely forgot to link it to the Saturday link ups since I was traveling, but oh well ;-)

  3. Always interesting when more than one copy of a book shows up. I am looking forward to seeing the artwork more than anything in In The Shadows…looks so beautiful! I hope you enjoy them all.

  4. I just finished reading Rebel Belle last night, and I LOVED it. I laughed so hard that I cried. I hope you like it too!

  5. I just got a copy of The Falconer too! Would you be interested in reading it together? I don’t have a specific date picked to read it but would probably like to have it read before the end of May, so I’m pretty flexible about timing :)

    • Definitely!! Let’s see, April is going to be a bit crazy here, but perhaps late next week or pub week?

      • Let’s go ahead and start late next week. Are you free by Thursday or would later be better? I haven’t done an informal read-along before, so I’m not sure what the best way to coordinate is. We could have a schedule of some kind or we could agree to send each other e-mails at specific points in the book, regardless of when we get there. or something else. What do you think would work best?

        • Sounds good! Thursday would be great, I’ll be done with a final on Wednesday and just take the day off, haha. How about we email back and forth? I like to agree to things like “try for chapter four by tonight?” “I’m stopping at chapter sixteen, how far are you??” ;-)

  6. I haven’t read Scorched yet either, but I love that cover for Shattered! Plus, dragons. There’s really not much else that I need to get me to read a book!
