The Found and the Lost by Ursula K. Le Guin {2 Stars}

How I got my copy: Publisher

Note: I received an advanced copy of The Found and the Lost from the publisher. Some things may have changed in the final version.

This is going to be a very different review than I normally post because I want to get down my thoughts, but they are scattered and completely due to where my brain is at currently. This is very much a time when my rating is a reflection on my experience only and not any attempt at an objective evaluation of these stories. Basically, I can’t evaluate these stories in a way that I consider fair because they just aren’t working for my reading mood right now.

Working for Bigfoot by Jim Butcher {4 Stars}

I’m quite excited to welcome back my book-loving mom to review Working for Bigfoot by Jim Butcher, which I gave her for her birthday! *daughter win* ;-)

In Working for Bigfoot by Jim Butcher, Harry Dresden, professional wizard, leaves his comfort zone in more ways than one and branches out into the forests of Wisconsin (and Norman, Oklahoma) to accept a string of cases from one of the Forest People, aka a Bigfoot. Although the unusual client makes even a member of the White Council a bit nervous, when a nerdy half-human child is at stake, Harry comes through and does the right thing. Repeatedly. Even if it does mean that he has to go back to school.

Chicago wizard-for-hire Harry Dresden is used to mysterious clients with long hair and legs up to here. But when it turns out the long hair covers every square inch of his latest client's body, and the legs contribute to a nine-foot height, even the redoubtable detective realizes he's treading new ground. Strength of a River in His Shoulders is one of the legendary forest people, a Bigfoot, and he has a problem that only Harry can solve. His son Irwin is a scion, the child of a supernatural creature and a human. He's a good kid, but the extraordinary strength of his magical aura has a way of attracting trouble.

Night Shift Anthology {3 Stars}

Night Shift is an anthology with stories from Nalini Singh, Ilona Andrews, Lisa Shearin, and Milla Vane consisting mostly of urban fantasy/paranormal genre stories with one exception. Night Shift claims to delve into the stories that happen after dark and I guess a fair amount of screen time is spent at night, but it’s a bit of a stretch at times ;-). What Night Shift does do well is give you a chance to try out several authors’ styles and possibly find a new series to try out! I know I certainly did :D. If you’re looking for a sexy and fun introduction to four worlds of magic and grit, Night Shift might just be perfect for you.

Note: I received a copy of Night Shift from the publisher. Also I’m structuring this review a bit differently because the individual stories impacted me quite differently.

This book has adult content.

New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh delivers a smoldering story with Secrets at Midnight , as the scent of Bastien Smith’s elusive lover ignites a possessiveness in him that’s as feral as it is ecstatic. And now that he’s found his mate, he’ll do anything to keep her.

In #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews’ novella,Magic Steals , when people start going missing, shapeshifting tigress Dali Harimau and jaguar shifter Jim Shrapshire must uncover the truth about the mysterious creatures responsible.

From Milla Vane—a warrior princess must tame The Beast of Blackmoor to earn a place among her people. But she quickly discovers that the beast isn't a monster, but a barbarian warrior who intends to do some taming himself.

It’s seer Makenna Frazier's first day on the job at Supernatural Protection and Investigations, and her first assignment is more than she bargained for when bodyguard duty for a leprechaun prince’s bachelor party goes every which way but right in national bestselling author Lisa Shearin’s Lucky Charms.
