Dragon Hunters by Marc Turner ARC {4 Stars}

Dragon Hunters by Marc Turner is another intricate and fascinating fantasy in The Chronicle of the Exile. While it is somewhat a sequel to When the Heavens Fall, it can easily be read on its own, though you’ll probably then be too addicted to not go back and read book one ;-). If you enjoy addictively readable door-stopper fantasies with many interweaving points-of-view, this is a series not to miss!

Note: I received an advanced copy of Dragon Hunters from the author. Some things may have changed in the final version.

Once a year on Dragon Day the fabled Dragon Gate is raised to let a sea dragon pass into the Sabian Sea. There, it will be hunted by the Storm Lords, a fellowship of powerful water-mages who rule an empire called the Storm Isles.

Emira Imerle Polivar is coming to the end of her tenure as leader of the Storm Lords, but she has no intention of standing down graciously. As part of her plot to hold on to power, she instructs an order of priests known as the Chameleons to sabotage the Dragon Gate. There’s just one problem: that will require them to infiltrate an impregnable citadel that houses the gate’s mechanism — a feat that has never been accomplished before.

But Imerle is not the only one intent on destroying the Storm Lord dynasty. As the Storm Lords assemble in answer to a mysterious summons, they become the targets of assassins working for an unknown enemy. And when Imerle sets her scheme in motion, that enemy uses the ensuing chaos to play its hand.

Sword2Dragon Hunters by Marc Turner

Today I’m very excited to welcome Marc Turner to the blog. Last year he published When the Heavens Fall, which I devoured in a single day despite its hefty page count. Now he’s back with a loose sequel, Dragon Hunters, coming Feb. 9th! I loved it and it has dragons, do you need to know anything else??

Dragon Hunters – Quote, Unquote

Nine months ago, when my first book When the Heavens Fall came out, I did a post on the Tor/Forge Blog about how difficult it was for a new author to stand out from the crowd. Game of Thrones may have brought epic fantasy to a whole new set of readers, but how do you get those readers to choose your book over the others available? One idea I had was to produce a video trailer for WtHF – you can see it here. As the publication date for my second book approached, I thought about doing a trailer for Dragon Hunters too.

Updates from the Lair 12/20/15

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Hey loves, sorry this is late! I think I’m coming down with a cold D:. Hopefully it’s just sinuses with all the crazy weather changes, ugh. In any case, I got lots of reading and working done this week, yey!

My Week

Dreamwielder

I read Dreamwielder in just a few days this week and quite enjoyed it! Cool dream magic, interesting world and creepy villain makes for a fun adventure story :D. I’m starting on book two this week.

Dragon HuntersI also finally had the time to finish Dragon Hunters :D. This was just as awesome as the first book in terms of interweaving plot points and an epic ending. Also lots of sea dragons, woot!

Their Fractured LightI also started the audiobook of Their Fractured Light! This audiobook freaking rocks! There is a super cool audio effect for the whispers and it seriously makes the tension amp up. If you like audiobooks, definitely try this one out.

Fire TouchedFinally, I am so lucky to get to start Fire Touched this week, thank you Ace soooooo much! I’m loving the start so far but I need to go read now since Mercy is in trouble. This makes for a great workout read though since it has me both cracking up and needing to turn the pages to find out what happens, and therefore keep working out haha. Plus if Mercy can kick some fae butt, I can work out ;-).

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

I’m done with Christmas shopping!!!! Well, almost, but the last thing is more a crafty thing, so it’s not as stressful and I already know what I’m going to do >.>. I haven’t wrapped anything yet of course since it’s still coming from Amazon, but I feel accomplished given my thoughts last week, haha! All the reading again this week since we were road tripping :D. I have been writing reviews like mad and still need to write about five after this post….

My Week

Dragon Hunters Woot, all the fun! I’m about halfway through Dragon Hunters and really enjoying it. I love Turner’s style of presenting a number of points of view and then slowly interweaving them for a final big event. Plus, dragons, even though they are eating people, ha.

Tide of ShadowsI also am at pretty much exactly 50% of Tide of Shadows and Other Stories! This is a cool anthology since it is something different, though I’m wishing there were more actual sf/f elements in the first two stories. We’ll see how story three goes!

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Ah, December. The month that is fun but also rather stresses me out because I suck at getting gifts on time…. I didn’t get a lot of reading done this week since I’ve been trying to really push on school work and make progress on my dissertation. We’re heading back to Minnesota tomorrow to help my father-in-law with a chemo appointment, so I’ll get some reading done then, though I wish it wasn’t under these circumstances. Hence also why I’ve been pushing hard on writing this week to make up for missing last week and this coming week…. Anyway, on to the books!

My Week

MonstrousI started the audiobook of Monstrous this week and am loooooooving it! Kym is adorable and while I saw the big twist coming right away, I’ve been enjoying the alternative perspective of the classic fairytale. The narration is also generally enjoyable and makes me like Kym all the more.

The RavenI’m a little over halfway through The Raven and it is an enjoyable fantasy that is a little different from the norm, though I’ve hit a slow patch with it. We’ll see how things progress!

Dragon HuntersI’m only about a hundred pages in to Dragon Hunters since I lost the light when reading in the car back from Thanksgiving D:. It was so freaking cloudy even at 2pm that I couldn’t hardly see the words and it was giving me a headache, sigh. I need to get back into this one, but I like the start and the new characters!
