featured-blog

Welcome to FFF, hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read! I’m so excited all, I’m a featured blog this week at Parajunkee :D. Thank you so much to our hosts for organizing this awesome hop!!

Interview

When did you start blogging?
I briefly started a book blog back in 2011, but didn’t know about the awesome community that was out there, so ended up giving up on that first try. However, when I stumbled across the book blogging community, I knew I had to try again in March 2012 and it has been much more successful so far and so much more fun with friends!
What is your favorite part of book blogging?
I have to choose just one?? Well, then it’ll have to be reading what everyone else thinks about new (and old!) books and finding out about books I would have never noticed otherwise. It has helped me expand my reading and also find so many more books that I absolutely love!
What type of books do you mainly blog about?
Science-fiction and fantasy all the way! This includes adult and YA in fairly equal amounts though :).
What is your favorite book(s)?
I’m going to sneak in two here since I have two main categories of books. For the older and more sci-fi category Robert Heinlein’s To Sail Beyond the Sunset. It helped me through all the angsty teen years ;-). In the newer and more fantasy focused category (I don’t know why the categories are organized by age and genre that way, just happened to work out, haha), I have to say Brandon Sanderson’s Elantris. That book is some ridiculously epic fantasy and I wish he would make a sequel!!
What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?
I partially eluded to this already, but I have found out about and read so many books that I would never have been exposed to if I hadn’t joined in the book blogging community. In addition though, those recommendations come from all the awesome people I have met that make this so much more fun! Blogging adds this whole new dimension to reading, it’s freaking awesome.

This week’s question:

Q: Who is your favorite villain from a book?

I strangely don’t think about villains much, and had a hard time coming up with this one. I also realized that a lot of books don’t have an actual villain, since there is some other tension driving the plot…. Limited choices made even harder! However, once I remembered the Tir Alainn trilogy, I knew I struck gold :D

The Pillars of the World

The Pillars of the World is the first book of this trilogy that is basically about Wicca-inspired witches being real with fairly significant magic in a fantasy setting with otherwise no magical things. There is also a man who has decided that witches are evil and must be saved (through torture) and killed to prevent their filth from spreading. The Tir Alainn trilogy does a wonderful job of explaining why The Witch’s Hammer hates witches as well as showing just how horrible he is when he cuts off an old woman’s hands and feet while trying to “purify her.” He is the classic villain you love to hate, but with the deeper character development that makes you unhappily see where he is coming from as well.

All right, so I have a feeling this week might get a little crazy :D. If you don’t have a preference, I prefer followers on NetworkedBlogs and Linky, but whatever way works best for you is fine with me! There are lots of options up in the dragon flame and along the side bar -> and just leave a comment letting me know you are a new follower and your FFF post and I will make sure to follow you back, even if it takes me a couple days to get through everything :).

Feature & Follow Friday #11 – Mythical Creatures!

Welcome to FFF, hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read!

This week’s question:

Q: If you could choose one supernatural being/creature to really exist, what would it be and why?

Uh… this one is probably pretty obvious, but dragons :D. Good dragons though, or at least intelligent dragons that make up their own minds about whether they want to be jerks or not…. Since I would want there to be at least some that are willing to sit down and chat with me :D. Size/life span/coloring etc are all negotiable to me as long as they don’t eat me and are intelligent!

I love following back and I don’t really care how you follow me, so just let me know :D!

Feature & Follow Friday #10 – Blogging Resolution

Welcome to FFF, hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read!

This week’s question:

Q: What New Year’s blogging or writing resolution have you placed on yourself?

I don’t suppose my writing resolution can be writing an academic paper for publication can it? ;-) No that’s boring! I’ll be posting a lot about my New Year’s resolutions next week, but as a sneak peek, one of my biggest ones is to participate more in community events. This includes hosting more events like giveaways and read alongs, and participating in read-a-thons and read alongs that others host! It’s an awesome way to make new friends and is one of the best parts of having this whole Internet tool to use ;-). It seems like a no-brainer, but because of my school schedule, I normally am too stressed out to participate. I’m hoping that summer will be a time that I feel I can participate more though!

I love following back and I don’t really care how you follow me, so just let me know :D!

Feature & Follow Friday #9 – Publishing Industry

Welcome to FFF, hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read!

This week’s question:

Q: What have you learned from book blogging that you didn’t know before about the publishing industry?

Wow, so many things! I guess the biggest is this whole independent publishing and small press publishing thing ;-). I probably had an inkling that there were new ways to publish a book besides the traditional publishing houses, but I didn’t really know what those ways were. I still don’t know a lot about those processes, but I’m learning :D.

Feature & Follow Friday #8 – Crybaby

Welcome to FFF, hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read!

This week’s question:

Q: What is the last book that made you cry? Tell us about the scene….

Destiny Binds by Tammy BlackwellProbably all of the books that I’ve finished recently made me cry, but the book that is standing out in my mind the strongest is Destiny Binds by Tammy Blackwell.

Wow, what a tear-jerker! I can’t tell you too much about the scene without spoilers, but stuff happens to bring up death. What made me cry is when a little kid starts asking about what happens when people die and being all sad someone that is dead left. Gah! Little kids, they are so adorable in their understanding of the world!

Feature & Follow Friday #7 – Be A Character

Welcome to FFF, hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read! Yey! I love this week’s question, since I pretty much want to be in all the books :D.

This week’s question:

Q: Activity! Who do you want to be? If you could choose any character from a book. What do you think that character looks like and what do you have in common?

Dragonriders of Pern

I loved the Dragonriders of Pern books when I was younger, so I would love to be Lessa! I always imagined her with lighter hair than that picture shows, but in any case, she was a tough but caring dragonrider and a strong leader in difficult times! Plus she got to ride dragons :D.

Feature & Follow Friday #6 – Book Crush!

Welcome to FFF, hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read! Oh crap…. This week’s question is another tough one for me, especially since I really don’t know any celebrities, don’t judge me okay all :D.

This week’s question:

Q: Activity! Who is your to-die-for book crush? What do you think they look like? Add an image to make us all happy.

So I was all over Victor Krum from Harry Potter when the books came out and then when the actor for the movies was decided I literally melted :D. I’m totally cheating, since I’m quite happy with how he was portrayed in the movies, but seriously, so sexy! Is it weird that I think a character that is under 18 is sexy? >.> I was so sad that I couldn’t find a picture of that crazy firestick dance from the movie because wow that was also awesome… I might be fangirling a bit too much at this point *breathes*. Anyway :D. Cheating a bit, I know, but I had the crush on the book character first ;-) totally counts right?

Any other Victor Krum lovers out there? Well too bad, you can’t have him, he’s all mine :D. Kidding, we can share ;-).

Feature & Follow Friday #5 – Movie to Book

Welcome to FFF, hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read! I had a hard time with this week’s question since I don’t watch a lot of movies, but I think I decided on a good one :D.

This week’s question:

Q: Books are turned into movies all the time! Turn it around. What movie would make a great book?

Serenity! Or really anything by Joss Whedon :D. He comes up with such great characters and plots that I really think they would translate wonderfully into standalone books or series (for movies or tv shows respectively).

I love following back and I don’t really care how you follow me, so just let me know :D!

Are you a Whedon fan? I haven’t seen his latest movie since I’m scared of it, but I hear Cabin in the Woods has a lot of sci-fi elements to it as well…. What movie did you choose?

Feature & Follow Friday #4 – Borrowed Ideas

Welcome to FFF, hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read! I love this week’s question, since it seems to be a more and more common problem!

This week’s question:

Q: Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

YES! I have to completely agree with Parajunkee here, but probably even more extreme. I read Blade Song for review, and the similarity it had to the Kate Daniels series just completely put me off. Urban Fantasy is a genre that is having more and more trouble with this. I read speculative fiction very much for the ideas of new worlds and magic systems, so when books are just recycled, ick. Even fairytale retellings, like Jim C. Hines’ Princess series, need to have some new ideas thrown in for me to be interested.

I’m a little follow obsessed, and enjoy following with GFC, Linky and NetworkedBlogs all at the same time, so link me your blog and I will follow you every way I can :D

What do you think of borrowing ideas? In a lot of genres, it is probably becoming hard to avoid stumbling over each other, but is that really an excuse? I don’t read a lot of fanfic, so I don’t really know about that one, what do you think?

Feature & Follow Friday #3 – Dealbreakers

This FFF is well timed since I had my first Did-Not-Finish book this week because of a dealbreaker!

This week’s question:

Q: What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can’t deal with bad editing?

Bad editing and writing combining to stilted writing and dialogue!!!! Omg, if the characters are SPEAKING without contractions, we’ve got a serious problem! Also commas, learn how to use them, or find someone that does!

I’ve gotten new ways to follow and be followed!!! I only just figured out (thank you Hannah!) that you don’t need Blogger to follow using GFC (*doh!*) so link me up! I’ve added NetworkedBlogs and Linky Followers which you are welcome to use, whatever suits your fancy :-). I’m also happy to follow old followers with more of those too.

What’s your dealbreakers these days?
