Imprudence by Gail Carriger eARC {4 Stars}

Imprudence by Gail Carriger is the second in the Custard Protocol series and every bit as fun and adventurous as the previous book! Prudence and friends are in for another adventure touring a different part of the world, discovering forgotten magical beings, and getting into all sorts of trouble. If you are a fan of audiobooks, I highly recommend this series on audio, the narration adds a whole new element of fun :D. I had a hard time deciding if I wanted to delay reading this one in order to listen to the audio, but in the end, I couldn’t resist!

Note: I received an advanced copy of Imprudence from the publisher. Some things may have changed in the final version.

London is in chaos.

Rue and the crew of The Spotted Custard returned from India with revelations that shook the foundations of the scientific community. There is mass political upheaval, the vampires are tetchy, and something is seriously wrong with the local werewolf pack. To top it all off, Rue’s best friend Primrose keeps getting engaged to the most inappropriate military types.

Rue has got personal problems as well. Her vampire father is angry, her werewolf father is crazy, and her obstreperous mother is both. Worst of all, Rue’s beginning to suspect what they all really are… is frightened.

When the Custard is ordered to Egypt, transporting some highly unusual passengers, Rue’s problems go from personal to impossible. Can she get Percy to stop sulking? Will she find the true cause of Primrose’s lovesickness? And what is Quesnel hiding in the boiler room?

Updates from the Lair 6/5/16

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Halfway done with teaching for the summer! My students have their midterm tomorrow, mwahahahaha. It isn’t too hard though, I think they’ll be fine ;-). I haven’t gotten a lot of reading done, but I did get some really exciting eARCs that have motivated me to get back to working out regularly. I’m only allowing myself to read them while working out and it’s worked so far :D.

My Week

ImprudenceMy current workout motivation is Imprudence! I absolutely looooooved book one and I seriously waffled on whether to wait for the audiobook for this one, since the first was fantastic. However, I can resist the allure of Rue and her gang. This series is absolutely fantastic and makes every minute on the treadmill worth it ;-).

I was fairly sure going in to The Aeronaut’s Windlass that I would enjoy it given how many of my book canaries have. I had no idea just how much I would enjoy it though! Talking cats and mad Etherialists and a mysterious surface and a strapping Aeronaut captain :D. The narration is fantastic and I’ve been finding excuses to listen to this audiobook as much as possible, ha.

Wicked EmbersI had a lot less time for reading physical books than I anticipated this week, so I’m not very far into Wicked Embers, but I’m quite enjoying it. The mystery is fascinating and I really love these characters and world. I always love urban fantasy that focuses on a mythology that is different from the usual and Wicked Embers promises that in spades!
