Bout of Books Read A Thon 5/14-5/20

All right all, I’m pumped. I didn’t get to participate in the past book blog community events because of bad real life timing, but I looked at the schedule and I think 5/14-5/20 is no crazier a week than normal, which means lots of time for reading and blogging! Please come join me!

All right, so I know that I should post goals, but I’m not sure exactly what vein they are supposed to be in, so I’ll post what I can think of here and would love suggestions for more that I should include!

Goals:

  • Read at least 2 hours every day
  • Listen to audiobooks whenever driving (I’m sure I’ll have work that week)
  • Finish at least 2 books that week
  • Get at least one book from the Goodreads to-read list from the library
  • Spend at least 1 hour every day communicating with the community
  • Find 4 new blogs to follow

That’s all I can think of right now, but I might add more later >.> Who else is participating?  Any ideas for other good goals I should include?

Dewey’s Read A Thon Wrap up

Hello all! I meant to post a wrap up post last night, but I was so tired by the time I rolled over in bed, that it just didn’t happen, ha! As expected I didn’t get as much reading done as I would have liked, but I am now 2/3 of the way through A Game of Thrones and am continuing on my own personal read a thon today with another 12 hour drive back to my home state after The Great Apartment Hunt (which was a success). Shout out to midnightbookgirl for being my cheerleader :D You rock!

How did everyone else’s Read A Thon go??

Dewey’s Read A Thon Update #2

All right, the first goal of the day is complete, I found an apartment and signed a lease! More importantly ( ;-) ) I’m on page 369 of 807 of A Game of Thrones and am planning to spend the next 4 hours getting some hard core reading time in! I’m going to read A Game of Thrones until I’m tired and my boyfriend is done with my computer, then I’m going to try to finish my advance copy of Troll Hunters since I’m only a hundred or so pages until the end of that!

How’s everyone’s read a thon going? Any fun challenges that I missed this morning?

Dewey’s Read A Thon Update

Good morning all! Happy Read A Thon! Today (in case you are new to the book blogosphere) is the Dewey’s Read A Thon and I’m trying to participate despite my apartment hunting appointments today!

Yesterday I was able to start Dogs and Goddesses on audiobook:

and I’m loving it! It’s so fun and delivers just what the title says, ha!

And I’m now just nearly half way through with A Game of Thrones:

and am enjoying it just as much as the show!

What are you all reading for the Read A Thon???

In Preparation for The Great Read-a-Thon!

So, coincidentally, the Dewey Read A Thon is happening this weekend, which is the same weekend that I am going apartment hunting. This makes me sad because I won’t actually be able to participate as much as I want to in the day of the Read A Thon, but I’m still going to try. However, to get to my apartment hunting day I need to drive/ride 12 hours on Friday and 12 hours back on Sunday. As any good reader would do, I will be spending as much of that time as I can reading or listening to books :D.

In preparation for my feeble attempt at participating in the Read A Thon and not so feeble attempt at reading 24 hours in two 12 hour chunks over the course of the weekend, I needed more books! Specifically audiobooks, since I don’t actually own any.

This was a perfect chance to go to my local library, which I had NEVER stepped foot in before! Seriously, four years in this town and I’ve never gone to the town library. I’m a HORRIBLE person D:. But! I’ve fixed it; I officially have my library card and started out with a nice big pile of books!

Audiobooks:

I am obviously not going to get to them all, but I wanted a variety in case one just wasn’t doing it for me, since I don’t know how much of the drive I’ll be at the wheel and how much my boyfriend will take (since we’re just going to switch off when one gets sick of it). Since I can only keep them out until May 10th, I’ll probably have to renew one or two if I like them all, since I do a lot of driving anyway!

Physical books from the library:

Things I love about books from the library: no downside! I don’t have to worry about paying for them and so I can just grab and try out and return without fear of money waster and my limited budget :D. Hence I grabbed a book at random from the dragon book list and Terry Pratchett. I hope I picked well, but really not a big deal if I didn’t :D.

Books I’m still working on:
  Troll Hunters

I’ve been in a reading slump recently (I blame a renewed interest in video games…) and so haven’t made a lot of progress on the books that I’ve been working on, so this will be a good opportunity! Troll Hunters is an advanced copy from Net Galley that I’m so excited to finish and write a review for, because you must read it! It’s so pretty! If it was in physical form I’d have no trouble buzzing through it, I just am not good at reading on the computer :(.

What are you planning to read for the Read A Thon? Have you read any of the new books I picked up and have tips for which to read first on my 12 HOUR drive tomorrow? How much do you love that libraries give you books FOR FREE????

Dewey’s Read A Thon April 21st, Sign Up!

Dewey’s Read A Thon is coming up April 21st. This looks like a really fun opportunity to get a lot of reading done and get really involved in the community. Everyone can sign up, not just bloggers, and there are other roles to play if you don’t want to spend the whole day just reading! They have cheerleaders as well who go and post on people’s blogs and facebooks to encourage them!

It looks like so much and I’m really excited. I wish that it wasn’t on the one day this spring that I am visiting apartments all day to try to find something. I did still sign up and am planning to post at least some during the day, but I can’t commit the whole day which makes me feel lame. But you don’t have to be lame! So sign up and read as much as you want!

Is anyone else planning to participate in any way? Has anyone done this in the past? I’m so excited! Also why is my luck so bad that the fun things happen on the few weekends that I am completely busy???
