Kaz Brekker and his crew have just pulled off a heist so daring even they didn't think they'd survive. But instead of divvying up a fat reward, they're right back to fighting for their lives. Double-crossed and left crippled by the kidnapping of a valuable team member, the crew is low on resources, allies, and hope. As powerful forces from around the world descend on Ketterdam to root out the secrets of the dangerous drug known as jurda parem, old rivals and new enemies emerge to challenge Kaz's cunning and test the team's fragile loyalties. A war will be waged on the city's dark and twisting streets―a battle for revenge and redemption that will decide the fate of magic in the Grisha world.

All right, so I have a problem. During November of last year I took a break from blogging to win NanoWrimo. But of course I was still reading! I’ve been debating what to do with the notes that I took after finishing each book. I had a plan to write out a full review of them based on the notes, but three months later and I have to admit that that is just not likely to happen. I still want to talk about the books with you though! So here is a barebones, just-my-notes chat about Crooked Kingdom!

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo ARC {4.5 Stars}

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is the first in her new series set in the same world as her Grisha trilogy. There has been a lot of anticipation and hype for Six of Crows and I can happily say that it lives up to expectations and more. I can really see how Bardugo has developed as a writer and absolutely love how she is building her world and giving us a whole lot more characters to fall deeply in love with.

Note: I borrowed an advanced copy of Six of Crows. Some things may have changed in the final version.

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can't pull it off alone...

A convict with a thirst for revenge.

A sharpshooter who can't walk away from a wager.

A runaway with a privileged past.

A spy known as the Wraith.

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz's crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don't kill each other first.

Six of Crows Signed ARC!

Six of Crows Signed ARC Giveaway

When I was at ALA I had the supreme pleasure of waiting in a very long line (and talked to a lovely family with a small child) to see Leigh Bardugo and get an ARC of Six of Crows!! I have already read and LOVED Six of Crows, so I’ll be giving away this signed ARC to you all :D. Seriously, this book is so so so good. Bardugo’s writing and characters have grown up seriously and I’m so excited to see where this series goes.

Updates from the Lair 5/31/15

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Wow so tired! I’m nearly completely moved out of my apartment and into the husband’s, we just have to clean and turn in keys today. Oh and then unpack all my stuff and find places to put it! We had been hoping to move into a rented house, but haven’t been able to find one, so we’re in his apartment for now which is a little tight. Some of my books will probably have to stay in storage D:.

My Week

Six of CrowsI was lucky to be able to borrow a copy of Six of Crows and it is flipping AMAZING! I’m finished and it was just so wonderful. Bardugo’s writing has gotten to interstellar levels of awesomeness, the character cast is incredibly diverse and lovely anti-heroes, the developments of the Grisha power are so cool and realistic and interesting. I’m just so excited that this new series exists!

Silver in the BloodSilver in the Blood, however, was a bit disappointing. I love George’s other series and can’t help but feel she dropped the ball on this one. It is really slow, the two girls are rather dull and don’t take it upon themselves to direct their lives much, the supernatural elements are pretty predictable, just blah :(.

Rebel MechanicsI just started Rebel Mechanics but I’m already about halfway and really enjoying it. I love Verity, I love her charges (adorable child alert!), I love the developing romance and intrigue, and I love the way magic is used! I never thought I’d enjoy steampunk so much :D.

NovaI also recently started Nova and am quite enjoying it. It’s a sci-fi about a woman who is a genetically engineered bomb and in 36 hours will blow up the space station she is on. I thought she wasn’t going to be happy about that, but so far she seems to think her purpose is a good one, so I’m really curious how things will develop.
