TBR Book Tag Time!

The TBR Book Tag I don’t do tag games for the most part because… I don’t feel like I can make them entertaining? I’m not generally drawn into them? I’m not tagged so don’t feel any strong pressure to do it? But the TBR tag is pretty cool and book specific, which I like, and Bec of Readers In Wonderland tagged me so now I HAVE TO DO IT.

How do you keep track of your TBR Pile?

Couch TBR Pile

Goodreads! And physical piles kind of, but mostly Goodreads. I have shelves for each month of the year to keep review books/books I’m reading the second they come out organized by pub date (for example, here is November’s) though I’ve started including books that I want to request on the 2015 list so this could break down at any moment. I also have an Own to Read shelf that I rarely update where I try to keep a handle on which books I bought with the intention to read and are somewhere on my shelves >.>.

Is your TBR pile mostly print or ebooks?

Bookshelf of mostly unread books

Bookshelf of mostly unread books

So I don’t actually know how many ebooks I have, but I don’t really buy ebooks, so they are mostly eARCs and if I miss the pub date for them, then I don’t worry too much about getting back to them. I do have a Have Ecopy shelf since if I get excited about starting a series, for example, I would prefer to just get back to the eARC I missed than buy a new copy until I’m sure I want to commit to the series. There are 33 books on that shelf, but we all know that that is a lie >.>. I’m going to go with mostly print because I actually have every intention of reading all the print books I have!

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

Coffee Table "Currently/IMMEDIATELIER Reading" TBR Pile >.>

Coffee Table “Currently/IMMEDIATELIER Reading” TBR Pile >.>

These days I’ve been going with a mix of pub date and excitement level, but mostly ARC/review books. I do also listen to audiobooks though and those I buy with credits when I am getting close to the end of the current. I use that to get to backlist titles that I really really want to read. But for what to read next, it is a magical process of eyeballing my physical review copies pile, checking the review copies list for that month on Goodreads to see about eARCs, and grabbing one I’m excited about.

What’s been on your TBR the longest?

Mindwalker*goes to do that order by date added thing on Goodreads*. Right, so I deleted my Goodreads back during the drama and was never able to import my previously exported library because they have inconsistent formatting requirements (WTF), so my oldest TBR book is from 2013 and hasn’t even been published yet (wtf former self??): Mindwalker by A.J. Steiger. I distinctly remember stalking people’s unpublished wishlists and adding everything remotely interesting to my wishlist when I first started using Goodreads again, so that’s where that is coming from. The oldest book on my shelf?? Yeah, no idea. Perhaps the Dresden Files because my parents gave me all they had after I read the first two but I never got back to them.

A book you recently added to your TBR

Wildalone*goes to do the reverse sorting thing on Goodreads*. This one is much easier since I’ve become much more obsessive about adding everything to GR ;-). I got invited to download an eARC of Wildalone and while the cover didn’t convince me, a friend having previously squeed her excitement plus the mention of witches instead of vampires has me intrigued. I’m just so confused how Twilight can be combined with the other books in the blurb….

A book that’s on your TBR strictly because of it’s beautiful cover

The Sin Eater's DaughterOh man, I’m such a cover luster (I was going to say cover whore, but don’t really like that phrase for hopefully obvious reasons). However, I’ve also gotten much better about reading blurbs and trying to decide if I would actually really like the book. Therefore, I just added The Sin Eater’s Daughter to my TBR so that I could include it here >.>. I’m not convinced by the blurb and waiting to see what you all think of it but man is it pretty.

A book on your TBR that you never plan on reading

ControlThis is tough since I really need to make new exclusive shelves instead of treating TBR as a catch-all for books owned that I’m planning to giveaway as well as books I just want to keep on my radar. But, I think that Control fits the bill since I did at one point really want to read it and own a physical copy, and it is really unlikely to ever happen at this point.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for

Lion Heart by A. C. GaughenAll of them? I have a separate list for this called my ARC Wishlist :D. I am again horrible and keeping it up to date in terms of things that come out and therefore are silly to be on that list still, but this is where I keep the unpublished books that I would love to get for review consideration. But, I will take every excuse to gush about LION HEART OMG GIVE IT TO ME NAO!

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read but you

Trickster's ChoiceConfession time: I haven’t read any Tamora Pierce (that I can remember, maybe my alternative self has?) and I sometimes smile and nod when people talk about the awesomeness and even dressed as the Goddess to a Pierce-themed ball (because my friend made me and made me a dress, apparently I look like how she thought the Goddess should look?). I will work on this, I promise.

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you

Grave PerilAre we counting muggles in the everyone category? I feel like there isn’t one book that everyone of my blogging friends recommends because we all squee about so many different books all the time. But, muggles (being non-blogosphere aware people >.>) are frequently horrified that I haven’t devoured the Dresden Files, Grave Peril being the next in the series for me.

A book on your TBR that you’re dying to read

The Accidental HighwaymanALL OF THEM! Seriously, I am constantly tortured by choice when it comes to my TBR list because I seriously just want to read them all immediately but it is really hard to hold so many books at once >.>. Octopus arms! Each sucker can hold a book :D. *ahem* I’m going to go with The Accidental Highwayman because Tabitha just sent it to me and it looks sooooooooooooo coooooooooooool. *drools*

How many books on your Goodreads TBR shelf?

423! I rock! I also haven’t culled in a long while and remember some of those are actually giveaway books that I haven’t created a separate exclusive shelf for. I also possibly haven’t updated it with the latest incoming books, but there are probably way more non-TBR books in that count than books that I need to add ;-).

Tag some people

I cannot help but notice that my dear Tabitha and company of Not Yet Read have not done this yet…. I would never presume to force anyone to do fun things buuuuuuuuuuuut *locks her in a room with a computer*. Otherwise, I feel like I’m pretty late to the party on this one and most of you have done it already, so if you haven’t but want to, consider yourself TAGGED!

How would you answer any of these questions? Do you find yourself with piles of books everywhere or is that just me? >.>

  2. You abandoned the Dresden Files? The horror. They’re so good. I love that series. I’ve been using all my Audible credits on it since the narration is so fitting.

    • I blame senior year thesis project ;-). It’s mostly that I just haven’t thought to get back to them when there are so many other books blocking them from my view literally on the shelf, hehe. I will be doing the audio though I think, once I finished the Iron Druid Chronicles perhaps!

  3. I don’t have a huuuuge pile of physical books, but my Kindle is bursting with unread books! :O I do have a physical “read first” pile because it sits on my nightstand. Mainly because those books are library books, so they have an expiry date. :O But wow 432 books! That’s amazing!

    • Yeah, I definitely don’t even count my Kindle books ;-). I’m good about not downloading just random free ones or even buying ones that I’m not planning to read IMMEDIATELY. I like library books because of those expiration dates, though recently have been avoiding them to avoid the extra pressure, hehe

  4. ANYA. You need to read Tamora Pierce’s books. They’re actually the best things ever – I’m not even worried about building them up too much, that’s how great they are. And the Trickster duology (that you have pictured) is my all-time favourite of Pierce’s books!

  5. Hahaha interesting. Can I just say… yes PLEASE read Tamora Pierce because she is awesome, but don’t start with the Trickster books because they are some of her weakest ones. The Song of the Lioness quartet, on the other hand… :D
Miriam @ Inky Realms recently posted…Book Review: Shadowplay (Micah Grey #2) by Laura LamMy Profile

    • Oo, thank you! I would have made a horrendous mistake otherwise! I grabbed the second trickster book because it was a used copy, but I’ll look for the the Lioness quartet :D

  6. YAY for participating in book tag posts :D I still have not read any Tamora Pierce either *cringe* OR Jum Butcher, though I see his books everywhere! YES Sin Eaters Daughter, I NEED that book in my life- and not just for that stunning cover either, it sounds SO good! Ditto for Lion Hearts :D And thanks for sharing all the bookish pictures ^^

    • I feel broken that I’m not pulled in by Sin Eater’s Daughter’s blurb, it just isn’t hitting the fantasy tropes I’m craving right now I guess, I just need friends to tell me it is amazing and then I’ll buy a pretty copy ;-)

  7. Fun tag! I’m glad you decided to do it. My owned not read shelf is kinda long too. (and I recently did a clean out) lol I like your couch to read pile. *nods* Sin Eater’s Daughter is pretty. The Dresden Files are good, the middle books in the series are great, but the latest books haven’t held my interest. I try to keep my books orderly, but they have a mind of their own. (well known fact)

    • My couch pile is perfectly positioned for massive read-a-thons where I need to have books within reach at all time! ;-)

Oh so that’s why my shelves keep getting out of order without me doing anything!

  8. Piles are my primary organizing tool. :) Though I’ve been trying to do less covering of the dining room table and more stacking on shelves and then browsing through when I look for my next read. :)
Kel @ Booked til Tuesday recently posted…Discussion: NaNoWriMoMy Profile

    • I wouldn’t have this dining room table problem if I had more shelves!! But I’m like seriously out of walls to put shelves against >.>

  9. I’ve not read Tamora Pierce yet either, despite getting some very high recommendations and seeing some great reviews. I really should get to one of them one of these days.

  10. Interesting post. Although, I now feel like I’m lazy because I don’t sort my Goodreads shelves… I think I’d have to start an entire new account just to get things organized on there.

My sister (well, one of them) loves Tamora Pierce, whereas I on the other hand have never read a single title of hers. At least not that I can recall.
Orchid Forsythia recently posted…Review: The Adventures of Tom SawyerMy Profile

    • Mine are completely out of sorts these days, I only do stuff with them when I’m trying to keep track of particular things about the books ;-)

I’m surprised your sister hasn’t forced you to try out Pierce yet ;-)

      • I’m pretty sure she has claimed Tamora Pierce as one of “her” authors….that or she thought I wouldn’t like them. Which is odd since I love fantasy types books. I’ll be curious to see what you think of her writing when you get the chance to read one of her books.

I have given up on keeping my Goodreads shelves organized. I’ll stick with keeping the physical piles neat instead. =)

  11. I guess I’ll succumb. It’s funny to break it all down like that. Yeah time to spring clean the shelves.

I like your idea of splitting your tbr piles/lists into months. If I tried that I’d never read anything on the list XD Also, you have a lot of tbr books with pretty colours *__*

Thanks for doing the tag :D

    • I KNOW PLEASE DON’T HATE ME!!!! I solemnly swear to go buy the first book since I randomly only have the second Trickster book >.>

The month splitting works well for me since it’s just the right amount of time for balancing pub dates and mood flexibility. It’s highly likely that at some point in the month I’ll be in the mood for most of the review books being published that month, ha!

      Thanks for tagging me :D

  13. What a fun post and man I can so relate! I may do this post myself though I don’t know when.

  14. I wrote up this tag list last week and scheduled it to go live today. So imagine my surprise to get your update in my inbox this morning with this post… *laughs*

Was also hoping you had way more books in your TBR pile than I do. Sadly, I’m still beating you with 746 books. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not. On one hand, yay books! On the other, oh my gods will I ever read all these??
    Silvara recently posted…TBR ListsMy Profile

Hehe, it’s probably because I’m purposefully ignoring all the possible books I could want to read to keep my sanity ;-)

  15. Thanks for doing the Tag that Rachel and I created! I love your post and your shelves look great!

    • Thanks for thinking this up! Sorry I didn’t use the original graphic, I completely spaced on it probably due to pain meds >.> *adds link note*

  16. Haha I sympathize with so much of the above! I’m kind curious/worried what this kind of deep look at my tbr would reveal. I have to say I’m seriously jealous of your tbr number though! I have close to 600 on my owned-but-not-read-tbr shelf alone, forget about the ones I don’t even own yet!

  17. I know you didn’t tag me, but I *may* have to do one of my own on this. Just because I’m pretty ashamed of my TBR pile. *lol* I’ve had so many books for a long time and haven’t gotten around to reading them yet – and my pile keeps growing because I keep getting more books! XD I also want to do my own of that Top 10 SF/F Series list you did recently. I liked your list a lot.
