Ten SF/F Books For Your BEAch Bag

Top Ten Tuesday

Thanks to the gals of The Broke and The Bookish for hosting this meme every week!

And of course by BEAch, I mean books that I discovered at BEA that look light and fun for reading at the beach (since I would much rather read and watch my friends’ kids play in the sand than get into the water, hehe). This is my way of starting to cover BEA while still having fun with posts that don’t make me feel overwhelmed (my suitcase is still sitting on the floor with books spilling out of it…).

Summer is For Middle Grade

Thursdays with the Crown The Fairy-Tale Matchmaker Pennyroyal Academy The Iron Trial

I don’t know what it is, but when I think summer, I think middle grade. I read the first two Castle Glower books last summer, so it is perfect that I can start the next one this summer :D. There was a lot of awesome middle grade at BEA and I was quite happy to snag these four. Middle grade is just so fun and light that it is easy to read around distractions like small children and seagulls ;-).

Water, Water, Everywhere

Storm Siren Salt & Storm

Of course, if I’m going to be reading on the beach, I should really be reading books with water in them! These two both seem to have water magic in them and I’m so happy to have discovered them at BEA!

Oo la la…

Burn for Me Vampires of Manhattan

In addition to middle grade, when I think of summer, I think of hot reads. I’m strange, I know! I’m excited for both of these new series though, since they are from authors’ whose writing I love!

Just Give Me The Awesome

The Darkest Part of the Forest Traitor's Blade

Finally, there are a lot of books from BEA that call to me this summer just because they promise to be so awesome! I’ve heard awesome things about Traitor’s Blade and The Darkest Part of the Forest was the top of my BEA must-gets, score!

Sorry that I didn’t write as much as I normally do, my brain is still majorly hung over from BEA. Keep your eyes out for more BEA wrap-up posts and giveaways! What would you like to see about my BEA experience? What books are you going to be reading this summer??

  1. Storm Siren looks intriguing. I hadn’t heard of it before BEA, but it seems like something I’d enjoy. :)

  2. :O Did you get Storm Siren @ BEA?!! Wow, you are one lucky little dragon aren’t you!? hahahah XD But seriously, I agree with most of these: Salt & Storm, Pennyroyal Academy, Traitor’s Blade, The Darkest Part of the Forest and Iron Trial! Awesome BEAch bag picks ^^

  3. Agreed. Reading and/or walking over swimming. The water is always way too cold.

I’m glad you survived BEA! Even though you didn’t stay for the last day. :P Actually, I’m still trying to wrap my brain around how anyone survived three-four days in a row of all that rush. It looks like you picked up some great titles! I’m betting everyone is now curious about all the other books still hidden away in your suitcase, and pictures are always good. :)

    • I don’t like getting covered in pool/lake water either, gross D:

Full BEA recap is coming soon! I needed to process a bit ;-). I’m so so sorry that I missed you, but wow I don’t think I could have handled Saturday!

  4. Traitor’s Blade is on my TBR list! Great choices :)

  5. Haha, very interesting choice of books! I’d love to read about the overall experience you had at BEA, like how busy it was, if you attended any panels, etc (:

    • Panels! I knew I forgot something >.> I won’t be able to tell you about any panels, but I can definitely answer the rest of those questions :D

  6. OOOh nice!! Quite a variety too! I chose from my TBR pile, review books, and a few new releases! Vampires of Manhattan looks intriguing by the cover alone! Will have to look into that one! Holly Black’s newest looks intriguing too! Great list!

    Here’s my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

  8. Damn, I haven’t heard of many of the books up there, only Vampires of Manhattan (only because it was brought to my attention recently) and Traitor’s Blade…which is SOOOO AWESOME btw, you must read it!

  11. Hello Anya!

So sorry I missed you at BEA! I was trying to see as many bloggers as I could, but it didn’t work out that way, next year though!

This list is great! I’m happy to see Storm Siren on there. I also picked this book up and am now considering bringing it along on my beach trip. Thanks for sharing your list!

    My TTT

    • Curses, I knew that I’d miss people if I left it up to chance! I couldn’t go to the main blogger events in the evenings since I left on Friday afternoon :(

  12. Great list! Love the cover for The Darkest Part of the Forest and Traitor’s Blade. By the way, it sounds like you enjoyed BEA last week; that’s awesome! :)

    My TTT

    • Yes, those covers are just so gorgeous!! I did enjoy BEA a lot, though I literally don’t think I’ve ever been so tired in my life!

  13. Dragana says:

Burn for me may not be a hot read like you expect – title and cover are misleading, this is more uf than pnr. I read it recently and loved it, it reminded me of Kate Dainels (if you have read that series).

I heard great things about Traitor’s Blade too. I hope to read it soon since I grabbed eARC from Edelweiss. :)

As for your BEA experience I would like to hear some interesting stories and crazy photos. Not just books but maybe funny tote bag or cool bookmark etc. :)

  14. I hope you enjoy Traitor’s Blade. I loved it, it was a lot of fun, and by the end I was already desperate for the sequel!
