Top Ten Books on My Fall TBR List

Top Ten Tuesday

Thanks to the gals of The Broke and The Bookish for hosting this meme every week!

I remember that I used to make my seasonal TBR list purely based on the next ten books that I needed to read for review and frequently would then feel guilty when I didn’t get to them all. No more! There are certainly ARCs on this list, but they are the ARCs coming out this fall that I most want to read without worrying about when they come out ;-).

Upcoming ARCs

The Name of the Blade Dreamer's Pool Silverblind Mortal Heart In a Handful of Dust

  1. The Name of the Blade – I wasn’t able to snag this one at BEA but Candlewick was wonderful enough to send me a copy in the mail afterward. I remember being so excited when I first heard about the UK edition so I’m thrilled for it to be coming out in the US :D.
  2. Dreamer’s Pool – I haven’t read any of Marillier’s previous work but hear great things, so I’m very excited to get to this one soon.
  3. Silverblind – Aaaaaahhhhh! I might have already read this one by the time this post goes live, I’m that excited for it >.>. I loved the first two books and the world :D.
  4. Mortal Heart – I was so thankful to HMH for sending me a physical of this one after BEA. How have I resisted reading it immediately? I’m a little intimidated to be honest >.>. But soon!
  5. In a Handful of Dust – I’m also a bit terrified to read this one, but I think it’ll be a great one to read at the gym, highly encouraging to run faster right? ;-)

All the Fun

Range of Ghosts Iron Trial The Assassin's Blade Captive The Bone Season

  1. Range of Ghosts – I received the full trilogy when the third book came out and I know that I really need to read this great fantasy, I just haven’t had the chance to yet and I’m going to try to fix that this fall ;-).
  2. The Iron Trial – I was so excited to get this one at BEA and was constantly telling myself it would be the next book I read. I bought the hardcover at my local indie because they had signed copies :D. And I’m glad I did because the ARC doesn’t have all the illustrations in it D:.
  3. The Assassin’s Blade – I’m so freaking determined to continue this series, but I think I’ll be starting with the novellas since I need to read about Celaena’s assassin adventures ;-).
  4. Captive – I’m borrowing an ARC of this one and so will be reading it as soon as it arrives, so excited!
  5. The Bone Season – I am also determined to start this series before book two comes out! A very good bookish friend absolutely adores Bone Season, so I’ve promised her I’ll try it, plus I got the paperback in the mail over the summer.

I’m clearly on a fantasy kick currently, oops ;-). I’m happy to have a nice balance of review and fun books at the top of the list, hopefully I can actually hold to it instead of letting guilt get to me, ha. What are you planning to read this fall?

  1. OH! The Name of the Blade! That is an author that I have my eye on! The book sounds amazing!

  2. Mortal Heart and The Name of the Blade — ahhhh!

I’m not super aware of what’s coming out since I haven’t had a lot of blogosphere time lately, so I have no idea what I’ll be reading this fall.

  3. There are so many books on your list that I want to read. The buzz over the Grave Mercy series has gotten me interested in reading the book. Assassin’s Blade I just haven’t gotten around to yet, and same goes for Aimee Carter’s Blackcoat Rebellion series. I seriously need more time to read all these books!

    • I was only so so about Grave Mercy but really enjoyed Dark Triumph and you really can read them in any order since they are companion novels :D

  4. Silverblind is on my list too, I absolutely loved both the first two books so I’m really excited about it!

I’m trying to focus on reads that contribute to my challenges for this season, so my list has lots of books from my shelves because I’m (always!) behind on the TBR challenge….now I just have to try and stick to it!

    • I couldn’t resist starting Silverblind right away and I LOVED it, even more than the first two! I hope you get to is asap and love it too :D

I’m definitely relieved that I cut back on the number of challenges this year so that I feel less stressed about those ;-)

  5. I am so excited for Mortal Heart! I have an ARC and I have a copy on order! I also have an ARC of Captivate, but I haven’t read Pawn yet. I suppose I should add that to my Fall list! The Iron Trial is top on my list. I am going to see the authors in October and I am so excited I want to do a dance every time I think about it! Enjoy your Fall reading! ~Megan

    • Yeah, hopefully they have it up there! Harlequin has been so weird about ARCs lately with all the plagiarism and selling problems :( Hehe, I definitely hear you about the TBR mountain ;-)

  7. Nice list! :) I loved The Iron Trials! There’s nothing wrong with a fantasy kick, I seem to be on one at the moment too. I can’t wait for Blood of Olympus and I plan to read the last Skulduggery Pleasant book soon, after I get through a few more arcs.

  8. I hope you like Captive! Pawn was good, but I’m still not sure if I want to continue the series. BUT YES TO THE ASSASSIN’S BLADE!!! So many of those stories are referenced in the series so now you’ll get to see the full details of all of that :D The Asterion mare makes an appearance too ;)

  9. Those all look awesome! Wish I had more time to read right now. Mortal Heart also made my list. Hope we can both get to it soon. :D My TTT

  15. That’s a nice group of books there! Can’t say I’m surprised to see Silverblind made it onto the list, haha. Dreamer’s Pool is also pretty exciting – everyone loves Marilier’s writing and says that she’s awesome, so I should probably read one of her books soon! The beautiful cover art doesn’t hurt either. ;)

  16. I zipped through IN A HANDFUL OF DUST over the weekend. It is intense! Definitely a good gym book!

  17. I’m so excited for the new Marillier book – though I feel like I need to catch up on some of her other series first. Ooh I totally forgot that Captive is coming out soon. I’m definitely interested in seeing where that story goes! I thought The Bone Season was pretty good and could see that being something you enjoy, so hopefully you can get to that one soon! Hope you have a successful reading season this fall!

  18. I read and loved Marillier’s “Wildwood Dancing,” but I wasn’t a fan of its sequel. Good luck on the Throne of Glass series! I’m still waiting to see where it goes before investing time in at least two love-triangle-ridden books. Great list!

    • Aw man, I hate it when a sequel disappoints *sigh* Hopefully this series goes better :D

Haha, yeah, that might be why it’s taken me so long to get to the second >.>

  19. I’m glad you’re on a fantasy kick because you’re showing me some awesome looking books! I’ve no idea what I’m going to read this Fall other than the new Stephen King book that’s coming out.

  23. You should add Karina Sumner-Smith’s “Radiant” to your fall reading list. I’m about 2/3s of the way through it now, and really enjoying it. I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned it before to you or not… Anyway, it comes out next week or October 7th, but Amazon pre-orders have already been shipped – which explains how I got my copy so early. :)

After “Radiant,” I’m going to read Maria Snyder’s “Magic Study” and “Fire Study” this fall, in preparation of the release of “Shadow Study” in February. That’s as far ahead as I’ve planned right now.
