Top Ten Books I Read In 2012

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Check out the upcoming topics to start posting!

Yey, another awesome topic! This time I get to look back at all the freaking awesome books I read in 2012, how will I ever choose??? As always, the covers are linked to Goodreads if you want to check them out :D.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor Destiny Binds by Tammy Blackwell The Stepsister Scheme by Jim C. Hines Elantris by Brandon Sanderson Fire by Kristin Cashore The Emperor's Soul by Brandon Sanderson Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi Heart of the Dragon's Realm by Karalyn Lee On The Edge by Ilona Andrews White Witch by Trish Milburn

  1. Daughter of Smoke and Bone – I’m sure this one will be on a lot of lists, but wow, what a great fantasy story! The writing, the characters, the plot, it was all just so awesome :D.
  2. Destiny Binds – This was a great indie urban fantasy that I found this year, and I can’t recommend it enough :D.
  3. The Stepsister Scheme – Such a fun fairy tale retelling with some really great kick-butt heroines with some character developments I did not see coming :D.
  4. Elantris – More Brandon Sanderson this year of course! I was super excited to read this standalone, it was wonderful, but now I really want Sanderson to write the sequel he’s always been talking about!
  5. Fire – I was weird and started with Fire instead of Graceling, but still really enjoyed it and am now listening to Graceling.
  6. The Emperor’s Soul – This one is a novella by Sanderson released this year, which I had to get my hands on, and it was just as wonderful as I expected! A full length Sanderson idea in an action-packed novella form :D.
  7. Under the Never Sky – This is one of the first YA books I read this year from the suggestions of all my wonderful blogging friends :D. It was so great and I’m super pumped for the sequel!
  8. Heart of the Dragon’s Realm – And now to the other end of the spectrum in more ways than one! I just finished this one recently and it’s a romantic fantasy, but still a lot of fun. I liked Heart of the Dragon’s Realm because it kept my attention by being happy and adventurous instead of stressful and angsty ;-).
  9. On The Edge – I love Ilona Andrews, and was excited to get started on the Edge books this year. They are just as awesome as expected.
  10. White Witch – This was a series that I started on Netgalley and have really enjoyed. I love the white witch urban fantasy idea and highly recommend this series if you want to try out a fun YA series ;-).

You’re turn! What are your top books this year?? I love these lists for new recommendations :D. Also if you are new around here and follow me, let me know and I’ll follow you back!

  1. I’m one of the few people who didn’t enjoy Daughter of Smoke and Bone, I thought it was fine, but didn’t love it. As I’ve seen it on so many list of the past year, I’m tempted to read it again to see if my opinion changes!

  2. Brandon Sanderson is also on my top reads of 2012. I started Elantris, but some glitch kept shuffling the mp3’s and i put it down. I should pick it up again and finish it. I wanted to give my brain time to forget the few spoilers I stumbled upon with the inadvertent shuffling. I loved his Mistborn trilogy.

    • Oh no, that is just horrible!! I hope you get a chance to get back to it and are able to get past the spoilers because that one was just so epic :D

  3. A very interesting list! Under the Never Sky is on my TBR, but I’ll probably wait for the whole trilogy to come out and read it then. Heart of the Dragon’s realm sounds good, I’m a bit tired of all the angst and drama in YA, so I’ll check this one out as you say it’s different. Thanks for stopping by my TTT and following! I’m doing the same, you have a great blog!

    • Thanks for stopping by! Sorry I’m so behind on comments ;-) I applaud your patience, I can never wait for trilogies to be completed haha!

  4. Wow, there are so many books on this lsit I haven’t heard of, but now really want to read (for some reason, I didn’t read many fantasy books this year, which is strange because I absolutely love the genre). Under the Never Sky, Graceling (and its sequels)), and Daughter of Smoke and Bone are all on my to-read list though, so seeing them on your list only makes me more excited to finally check them out. Great list!

    • Yey! I’ve been in a fantasy mood this year I think because real life has been stressful and I’ve just wanted to escape away haha! I completely recommend all of those books and am so excited for you to get to read them :D Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Yay! You loved Kristin Cashore. Hurrah!

  6. Oooh…I just started The Stepsister Scheme last night! I’m glad you liked it so much. :)

  7. Great list! I am adding a few of these to my TBR list, they sound really interesting.

  8. I love Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and Under the Never Sky! Great list! And thanks for stopping by my blog. :)

  9. readerbuzz says:

We live in such a great time! So many wonderful books out there. Thanks for sharing your list.

    And I’m a new follower!

    • I completely agree! And I’m so glad to be a book blogger since otherwise I probably wouldn’t have heard of most of them! Thanks for following :D

  10. I’ve been dying to read daughter of smoke & bones! & the rest of your list is pretty Awsome too! =)

  11. I loved Elantris! I haven’t read any of the other books on your list, but I’m planning on reading several of them. Thanks for checking out my TTT!

    • Yey another Sanderson fan?! *high fives* What other of his books have you read??

      • Sadly, Elantris is the only Sanderson book I’ve ever read. But I do have several of his other books on my TBR list. I’m especially excited about his new book, Steelheart, coming out in 2013.

        • Haha, that’s all right, we can fix that! I’m also very excited!!! I just got Way of Kings for Christmas, so now I’m going to have to block out a bunch of time for that behemoth ;-)

  12. There’s definitely a couple of books on your list that I really want to read!

  15. I’ll definitely be reading Daughter of Smoke and Bone soon. Thanks for the follow. I’m following back!

    • Yey, you’ll want to get the next one too so that you don’t have to wait between them, ahah! Thanks for following :D

  16. I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I heard the movie rights were just purchased too.

I think it would be a different reading experience to read Fire and then Graceling. I liked Graceling more than Fire.

    • Oo, that will be an interesting movie, I’m excited :D

It has been interesting, I keep forgetting that Lec is the same as the creepy kid from Fire, haha

  17. I keep seeing Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I guess I’m going to have to read it!

  18. i really want to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone!

  19. Love Daughter of Smoke and Bone AND Fire! Daughter of Smoke and Bone was one of my favorite reads last year and its sequel was my favorite this year. I hope you get to read it soon! :D

    My Top Ten Tuesday

  20. Wow! Thanks for putting my little book in a list with all these super-awesome reads! I hope to see you at GenCon next year!

    • Haha, of course! It made quite an impression on me! And then there was all that crying at the end ;-) I was fine until the kid had to be sad, gah little children. I’ll definitely be at GenCon, we could get coffee or something if you want ;-)

  21. I’m glad to see that Heart of the Dragon’s Realm made your list, & I’ll have to check out some of the other books on your list I hadn’t heard of! :) Here’s my TTT list: http://aliceinreaderland.wordpress.com/2012/12/17/top-books/

    • I know that problem completely! I still need to catch up on Ilona Andrews new books, gah! Can I just take a month off of life to read? Thanks for stopping by, off to check out your books :D

  23. Ive been seeing Veronica Rossi everywhere. Maybe I need to check her out. Great list btw. Feel free to View my TTT

    • Oo, definitely, especially since her new book is coming out in January and we’re all going to be fainting, haha! Thanks for stopping by, off to check out your TTT!

  24. I actually don’t think I’ve read any of those :( But most of them are on my TBR list. Maybe this year! :D

    • I know that problem too, so many great books to read and so little time! But now you can be reassured that they are awesome and have books to look forward to in the new year :D

  25. Ooh loving this list because there are so many books on it that I want to read – and I loved Daughter of Smoke & Bone – and Fire too.

  26. I have a couple of those books on my TBR list. Glad to see they made it to your favorites! Here’s my TTT: http://meganm922.blogspot.com/2012/12/top-ten-tuesdaybest-books-i-read-in-2012.html

  27. If I don’t get it for Christmas I am planning to snag The Emperor’s Soul with a gift card right after. Sounds so great and all I’ve read are glowing reviews of it. Looks like a nice way to get a bit of Sanderson in while I wait impatiently for the second book in the Stormlight Archive.
