Top Ten Books I Wish Could Have Had Sequels

Top Ten Tuesday Thanks to the gals of The Broke and The Bookish for hosting this meme every week!

Oo, this topic is going to be a fun one. I’m including books that may at some point in the far future have sequels but don’t yet, since sometimes authors are tricksy like that ;-). Also there is going to be a lot of Sanderson books for good reason!

I need more answers!

The Weight of Souls Handbook for Dragon Slayers Some Quiet Place Outcast by Adrienne Kress legion

I’m a sucker for awesome magic and otherwordly critters, but I need some explanations for how the system works. I’m all for suspension of disbelief that things work a certain way in a world, but I am just too curious not to want the characters to investigate somewhat. These books have loose ends at the end that left me begging for a second book so that we could get explanations. I’m fairly certain a second book will come into being for at least a couple (Weight of Souls has an ending that screams sequel at some point), but Goodreads hasn’t put the little series parentheses next to them yet D: .

Let the good times roll!

And All the Stars poison by bridget zinn Heart of the Dragon's Realm The Emperor's Soul Elantris

See, told you there would be a lot of Sanderson >.>. Some stand-alones are just so much fun to read that I don’t want them to end D: . Poison is an especially painful one given Bridget Zinn’s untimely death. I wish there would be a sequel to Poison for a number of reasons :(. The two Sanderson books are a novella and a stand alone novel, but all of his books have the potential for a sequel and even the suggestion on his website that there will be a sequel at some far and unknown date in the future; why must he torture me??? Elantris left such warm and fuzzy feelings in my brain, I will be rereading it at some point so that I can pretend there is a sequel >.>.

Link me up your sad stand-alones list! Do you tend to want answers or just want more awesomeness?

  1. I’ve sadly never read any of these books before, but I’m happy to see that you want Poison to have a sequel, especially since it’s on my TBR pile.
Thanks for stopping by my TTT Anya! (:

  2. I get the feeling that “The Weight of Souls” is going to have a sequel at some point. It’s just been released, technically, so I don’t even know if the author’s working on a sequel yet, but yeah, the ending was far too much of a cliffhanger-with-a-hook that if there’s no sequel, that will both disappoint and anger me.

I haven’t read any of these, though I keep telling myself I need to read a Brandon Sanderson book. I keep seeing everyone talk about his work lately!

  4. And All the Stars!! YES YES YES!

  5. Interesting list! I’ve not yet read any of these, but some of them look wonderful. I was surprised how hard it was to come up with 10; I had to go back to some older books. It seems there are a lot more series being published these days — or maybe I’m just gravitating toward series.

  6. I really need to read some Sanderson! I’ve been meaning to, just need more time… some of these covers are really compelling, too. Here’s my list http://margoberendsen.blogspot.com/2013/08/top-ten-books-i-wish-could-have-had.html

  7. Carmen Brack says:

Some Quiet Place actually will have a sequel :) The author talked about it in an interview… unfortunately I don’t remember which blog it was on :/ I’m really excited about that because I loved the book! I need more of Fear ^^ And the concept was just really refreshing.
I haven’t read any Sanderson *hangs head in shame* But Micheline from Lunar Rainbows is urging me towards him and some of his books sound amazing, so I hope I can get to him this year :)
    Thanks for sharing!

    • Yey!!!!!! I need to understand how the emotions/elements having babies thing works >.>

Yes, Micheline and I are Sanderson fanatics xD I highly recommend The Emperor’s Soul as a nice introduction since it’s a novella :D

  8. I haven’t read any of these. WAAAAHH. I feel like I’m missing out! SOME QUIET PLACE is for sure on my list though. I also really want to read Poison.

  9. There are some great standalones around, which made this week’s so, so difficult!

    Here’s my TTT.

  10. Hmm, sucks that Outcast left you with so many unanswered questions. I love seeing Sanderson on this list, not only because the books are so good you want more, but also because it’s nice to see that he has some standalones! :D Also, I agree with you about Poison. I’m so sad that we won’t be getting any more books from Bridget Zinn!

    • Yeah, he has a surprising number of standalones actually, though they will hopefully have sequels eventually, haha.

  11. Poison is SUCH a great choice! I knew I was forgetting some awesome books when I made my list.
    I loved that book!

  12. I haven’t read any of these, but Poison is very high on my wishlist right now. Great list!

  13. I would love to see Sanderson return to the character/setting in The Emperor’s Soul.

    • Yessssss, I neeeeeeeds it D: It was cool that Elantris and The Emperor’s Soul take place in the same world but different parts though, more meta-verse!

  14. Outcast was such an amazing book! I loved it.

  15. Great list! I need to read more Sanderson. Actually lots of these are on my list and I just haven’t gotten to them yet. I will eventually, though. :D

  16. Jenn @ A Glo-Worm Reads says:

Great choices! I usually get frustrated when a book doesn’t have a solid ending, makes me sad. Leaving loose ends without intending to wrap them up is not very nice of the author. And sometimes you just need more of certain worlds!

    • Completely agreed. I’m hoping that the authors just haven’t set the series name yet or something for some of these >.>

  17. Anya I think that your choices are fantastic. I’ve got Poison, Some Quiet Place and All The Stars in my TBR pile :)
