Top Ten Books I’m Looking Forward To In 2015

Top Ten Tuesday

Thanks to the gals of The Broke and The Bookish for hosting this meme every week!

A list of 2015 books that I’m excited about could seriously go on and on FOREVER, but I’m restricting myself to books that you might not have already of so that we can all get excited about new books ;-). I also am including a couple that I’m honestly not quite sure what to make of but am exceedingly intrigued by since I’m curious to hear your thoughts :D.

New To Me Authors

Illusionarium The Shattered Court A Book Of Spirits and Thieves The Orphan Queen

  1. Illusionarium – I love so many things in the description, including “a healthy dose of humor”, “gorgeous writing”, and “wholly original” :D. I just really love sf/f that pulls in humor really >.>. But seriously, The Night Circus meets Pixar?!?!!?!
  2. The Shattered Court – Witches! And a horrible marriage system that our heroine circumvents as she becomes uber powerful :D. Plus SO PRETTY!
  3. A Book of Spirits and Thieves – I am really hoping that I sneak in Falling Kingdoms soon, but it hasn’t happened yet. I’m a huge fan of spin-off series that explore a different part of the world though, so I’m just pumped this book is happening :D.
  4. The Orphan Queen – This feels like such a gimme that it’s almost cheating, but I haven’t had a chance to read the Newsoul trilogy yet (it’s on the list!), so I’m excited for Meadows to be starting a new series that I can get right into with everyone else!

Sequels I Need YESTERDAY

Lion Heart Six of Crows Crimson Bound

  1. The Queen and the Courtesan (Ring and The Crown #2) – This one doesn’t have a cover yet, hence the linked text instead ;-). I really enjoyed the light and fun tone and really awesome world of The Ring and the Crown, so of course I’m pumped about the sequel!
  2. Lion Heart (Scarlet #3) – MY HEART IS DYING! Seriously, after Lady Thief, how can I not be dying for the sequel??? Also I need that cover on my shelf *pets*.
  3. Six of Crows (Dregs #1) – Fine, I’m stretching the definition of sequel, but it is set in the same world as The Grisha trilogy so it totally counts :D. I really loved the ending to the previous trilogy and I’m insanely intrigued to find out more about a different region of the world and a different perspective!
  4. Crimson Bound – And now I’m SUPER stretching the definition of sequel, but a cover-matching standalone to Hodge’s previous standalone, Cruel Beauty, seems to be close enough ;-). I really loved the world and story of Cruel Beauty, so there was nearly a heart attack when I saw Crimson Bound!

Shiny and New Favorites

Radiance Seriously Wicked

  1.  Radiance – I have only read the first Fairyland book from Valente, but I already know that I will read ANYTHING she writes. I have been saving the rest of the Fairyland books for a binge when I especially need it (book one got me through the hell that was July this year!), so perhaps if I end up getting back surgery :D.
  2. Seriously Wicked – My heart seriously hurt when I finished the last of Connolly’s Ironskin books, so I was ecstatic to see that she is already starting a new series. I’m really pumped that it is completely different from the Ironskin books because I love fresh ideas in fantasy and this looks like it is going to be an absolute BLAST!

My caps lock key is probably going to go on strike after typing up that post >.>. But yes, I’m exceedingly excited for 2015 and am officially giving myself permission to buy all ten of these the day of their release and read them immediately, no guilt :D. Also I should get a cookie for managing to resist putting any Sanderson on this list <.<. It’s really just because I’m already reading Firefight and none of his other sequels have covers yet, ha. ;-)

What are you most excited to read in 2015??

  1. I’m so excited that you put Orphan Queen on this list! It’s seriously such a great book (I’ve had the privilege of reading it early), and I hope you fall in love with Jodi’s writing as much as I did when I first read the Newsoul series. Also, I’m very excited about Illusionarium too!

    • A certain friend has a copy and I keep eyeing it on her shelf and wondering if I should steal it when she isn’t looking ;-) I probably will once I am not in the middle of six books at once!

  2. I haven’t really thought of which books are going to be published in 2015, but I’m going to add A Book of Spirits and Thieves to my TBR list. I haven’t started Falling Kingdoms yet, but the spin-off won’t be out until June, so that gives me enough time to start Falling Kingdoms… I hope.

    • Hehe, that’s totally how I feel about A Book of Spirits and Thieves too! I’ll be trying to get the audiobooks of Falling Kingdoms I think ;-)

  3. RADIANCEEEEE I didn’t put that on my list because I thought there wasn’t a cover BUT THERE IS! I haven’t read the rest of her Fairyland books except for the first, but that will be fixed soon! I LOVE HER WRITING STYLE!

  7. I think EVERY SINGLE ONE of those are new-to-me! Wow, that’s how many books that you just added to my tbr? Because yeah, they look and sound great. The shattered court is particularly calling to me :)

Wow! All of your top ten books are on my list too! And I can’t even express how excited I am for Crimson Bound, Lion Heart, and Six of Crows. :D

  9. Seriously Wicked looks super fun and I love the cover! I need to read Cruel Beauty first, it is on my winter to read list! I read a sampler for The Orphan Queen, it was great, so I cannot wait for the full book :) Great list today!

  12. OOoh nice! Dying for A Book of Spirits and Thieves! Also can’t wait for Crimson Bound and Six of Crows! They didn’t make my list, mostly because I was trying to do 50/50 adult/YA!

    Here’s my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

    • Haha, it is noble to try to balance your lists, I have such a problem with getting completely distracted by one genre >.>

  13. I wasn’t IN LOVE with Cruel Beauty, but I just can’t shun Crimson Bound! I really hope there’s no love triangle in the companion – I might like it a lot more that way!

I’m very surprised not to see any Sanderson on here, haha. You’re growing Anya!

*whispers* Nikolai better be in Six of Crows.

    • Haha, I’m going to resist getting into a debate about Cruel Beauty ;-) But agreed that hopefully Crimson Bound won’t have whatever Cruel Beauty had since repeating plot lines is boring D:

Pfft, I like lots of things other than Sanderson! But I shall never give up my Sanderson love!

  14. Seriously Wicked is on my Top 10 as well! It looks like way too much fun. ;) Happy reading!

  15. I didn’t love Heather Dixon’s debut novel, Entwined, but I have an eARC of Illusionarium and it sounds promising. I’m mildly excited by Six of Crows; I never read the Grisha trilogy, but the synopsis on this one has me intrigued. And I would give you a cookie for making a Sanderson-less list, but I need all the sugar and caffeine I can hoard/steal/pilfer/plunder/pillage right now. The rest of the world can have some too after Saturday’s test. ;)

  16. The Orphan Queen sounds so good! Yes, I agree humor can really make a book, but that Night Circus & Pixar blurb makes me curious.

You did a good job listing books I hadn’t heard of before. My wish list thanks you. :) Seriously Wicked looks like such fun!

  19. Illusionarium: she wrote one of my favorite retellings from the 12 dancing princesses and I love the whole Pixar comparison :D I’m reading it at the moment and it’s a little vague so far, but I have hope it will be better. Crimson bound and Lion Heart, I’M SO EXCITED. Cruel beauty was my favorite book this year and I love the Scarlet series <3

  20. Ooooh, I like the cover for The Shattered Court, too! I’ll have to look it up on Amazon and read the blurb now. :)

Books I’m looking forward to in 2015… let’s see… In the fantasy realm, I’d say “Shadow Study” by Maria V. Snyder, “Defiant” by Karina Sumner-Smith, and “Siren’s Fury” by Mary Weber (although the blurb killed some of my enthusiasm). Oh, and Rachel Hartman’s “Shadow Scale,” now that I’ve finished “Seraphina.” :)

And I know you don’t cover historical fiction here, but in that genre I’m excited for “Rebel Queen” by Michelle Moran, “The Violinist of Venice” by Alyssa Palombo, and “The Wrath and the Dawn” by Renee Ahdieh. The last one is a YA retelling of 1001 Arabian Nights.

  21. I read The Orphan Queen over the weekend and just you wait. OMG! It was so intense and crazy good. I’m also excited for Lion Heart so I can finally read The Lady Thief. I’m holding off so I don’t have to deal with what I know is probably a cliff hanger.

    • Torture me why don’t you?? ;-) Haha, good call on Lady Thief, I was left in shock after finishing it, like I seriously had to just sit back a moment and stare at the wall >.>

  22. These are all new to me! Illusionarium and The Shattered Court sound might interesting, and I’m really digging the Radiance cover.

  24. I hadn’t hear about The Shattered Court before but now I want it!

I still need to read a book by Valente (I got Deathless last christmas and still haven’t read it >.<) but I definitely want to get Radiance! "decopunk pulp SF alt-history space opera mystery" sounds too good to pass up :D

    • Right?? That’s totally why I put it on the list ;-)

I am just super excited to find out what that even means, haha!

  25. The Orphan Queen, Illusionarium, and Crimson Bound are all on my 2015 list too! Actually, Crimson Bound and Illusionarium are on Edelweiss if you use it ;)
