Top Ten Books On My Winter TBR

Top Ten Tuesday

Thanks to the gals of The Broke and The Bookish for hosting this meme every week!

I’m trying to be very honest with myself when making these TBR lists, and I mostly succeed for the fall TBR by reading 6/10! And I’m still planning on getting to three of the last four as soon as I can, possibly even this week :D. Therefore, this list is comprised of books that I am super duper excited about and am quite determined to read ;-).

ARCs I Can’t Resist

Death Marked This Shattered World Beastkeeper The Winner's Crime

  1. Death Marked – I looooooooved the previous book and have been being very good by not jumping straight into Death Marked! Must. Read. Now!
  2. This Shattered World – I’m sensing a theme with this list so far >.>. I also absolutely adored These Broken Stars and can’t wait to read This Shattered World. I actually started it when I grabbed the ARC at BEA, but found I wasn’t in the mood, so I’ve been waiting for the right moment ;-).
  3. Beastkeeper – I love the sound of this premise and have seen a couple of early squeeing reviews already ;-). I kind of want to take a day off and just read the whole thing since it’s short too and binging is just so much fun!
  4. The Winner’s Crime – Yup, another sequel that I’m so ridiculously pumped for after really enjoying The Winner’s Curse! I’m not going to make myself wait too long into the winter to read this one I think, too hard to resist.

Recent Exciting Releases

The Accidental Highwayman Legion: Skin Deep The Slow Regard of Silent Things

  1. The Accidental Highwayman – This book sounds SO AWESOME! It’s supposed to be reminiscient of the Dread Pirate Robert storyline in Princess Bride and just sounds so fun. The wonderful Tabitha of Not Yet Read sent me her ARC so I’ll be reading that this winter for sure!
  2. Legion: Skin Deep – I of course have to read everything from Sanderson and really enjoyed the audio of Legion and the audiobook is free for the first month :D.
  3. The Slow Regard of Silent Things – I pre-ordered this ages ago and therefore was very excited when the UK edition arrived soon after the release (I much prefer that cover). I keep meaning to read it between other books and haven’t yet. I know that if I don’t do it asap, it’ll just keep getting pushed further down the pile D:.

Borrowed ARCs of Awesome

Firefight The Girl at Midnight Castle Hangnail

  1.  Firefight – Duh right? It completely reflects the craziness of my life right now that I haven’t finished Firefight already, but it’s going to happen very very soon ;-).
  2. The Girl at Midnight – I loooooooove the blurb for this one so much and was pumped when my friend let me borrow her ARC :D. I’m not sold on the cover, but it’s growing on me ;-).
  3. Castle Hangnail – I am such a fan of middle grade books with illustrations and even just the ARC of this has absolutely ADORABLE illustrations! Seriously, if you like middle grade illustrations you MUST check this one out :D.

I basically need to take next semester off to do nothing but read right? I’m so excited for all of these books and right to read them all simultaneously! What are you planning on reading this winter? :D

  1. The Winner’s Crime is amaaaazing. Like, I seriously was not a mega fan of the first, but this second novel? SOLD ME ON IT. Also, I really loved This Shattered World too!

    • Oo, that’s excellent to hear! I mean, I liked the first, but wasn’t really impressed until the ending was surprising, so I’ll have to give in to temptation to read Crime soon! But now you have to decide if it ranks before or after Perilous Sea ;-)

  2. 6/10 is good and there’s still time until autumn actually ends. I’ve made a tentative list for winter, but I don’t know if I’m going to read all of it because I’m sure that I’m going to find some very interesting books and forget all about the list. Now that I see Firefight and Death Marked on your list, I’ve realised that I’ve forgotten to add Steelheart and Death Sworn to mine!

    • So true! Though if I haven’t gotten to them by now, I should probably give up eh? ;-) Woot for Steelheart and Death Sworn! :D

  3. I really want to read The Slow Regard Of Silent Things. SO bad.

    Check out my TTT!

  4. I just discovered your blog and I am so glad I did! This is such a great list, I will definitely be adding a few of these to my tbr.

  5. I’m surprised that I don’t have any of these on my TBR pile; normally our reading ends up intersecting a little bit. :p

I’m actually quite terrible at reading what I set out to when I make a definite list. Looking at a post I made last December, with the top 5 books I wanted to read in 2014, I’ve only read 1 of them so far. And it’s not looking likely that I’ll get through the others before the year’s out, which is disappointing. Maybe I’ll just have to try harder for 2015!

    • Hehe, not a Sanderson fan?? ;-)

Oh no! Did you lose interest in them or just haven’t had time??

      • Never actually read any Sanderson. I do keep meaning to, but largely out of curiosity to see if my opinion is the same as a close friend’s, whose experience with Sanderson is that his work is very hit-or-miss. Their opinion seems to be that it’s either full of predictable tropes, or “it got better.” One of these days I’ll find out if I have the same opinions, I’m sure. :p

        • Haha, I’ll be very curious to hear! I personally never find myself bothered by trope use as long as it isn’t too in your face and Sanderson’s strength is in the worlds and magic that he builds, which is my favorite :D

  6. I’m really excited to read The Winner’s Crime although I’m not really a big fan of its cover. Nonetheless, I still think that Marie Rutkoski is going to write an awesome, kick-ass sequel to The Winner’s Curse!

Great list and I hope you get to read all of these books soon. :)

  7. The Accidental Highwayman sounds seriously intriguing! I like stories about old timey pirates/outlaws. Will be interested to hear what you think! And 6/10 on your fall TBR is super successful. I was pretty proud with sticking to 4/10 on mine. While I rarely stick to the seasonal TBRs, I like making them because I do think it keeps me a tad more organized.
Stephanie recently posted…Top Ten Tuesday – Winter TBRMy Profile

    • Right?? I’m so excited to read it! 4/10 is great! I think there were some where I literally didn’t read any of them, haha!

  8. Firefight is so close! I can’t wait to get my hardcover :D And I’m really excited for The Winner’s Crime as well!

  9. Oh, I forgot to put the second Legion novella and Firefight on my to read-list :D
Just finished the Rothfuss book – it is very different and a bit repetitive and I am still not sure what to think of it…

There are some books on your list I never heard of but sound pretty cool! (Which is good as my wishlist is way too short at the moment :) )
Mila recently posted…Top Ten Tuesday: Books on my Winter Reading ListMy Profile

    • These lists always do that to me where I wish I could have a second one for Wednesday with everything I forgot, haha!

I’ve heard that about the Rothfuss book, I’m curious what I’ll think since I do like different sometimes ;-)

I’m happy to help add to your wishlist, can’t have you running out!

  10. You know, sometimes our tastes in books coincide pretty well. And sometimes… Not so much =)

    • I snagged it from bookseller friend actually, I’m technically borrowing it, but I could see if I could share it?

  12. I actually still need to read Winner’s Curse AND These Broken Stars *groan* I’m curious what you’ll think of Death Marked though – I didn’t have your luck with the first book >.> but I had to resist requesting the sequel: PRETTY!!! I you love it even more than book 1 I’ll be kicking myself for not requesting it (of course) Also still need to read the 1st Legion book, BUT I got a copy recently and knowing me + Sanderson, I ought to make time to get into it soon :D

  20. A Brandon Sanderson book you haven’t finished yet? O.O Your life IS crazy right now.

If it makes you feel any better, you’re doing much better with your TBR lists than I. I’ve read 4/10 from my summer TBR post and 3/10 from my fall list. Shame and dishonor. :(

  21. I really want to read FIREFIGHT! I kind of keep forgetting that I have BEASTKEEPER for review right now, too. Great list!

  22. I have This Shattered World on my list as well, but you have a couple good ones I completely forgot about, like The Accidental Highwayman. Oh if only we could just freeze time and read! Except we wouldn’t be frozen, we’d be in a reading bubble:-)

  23. I’m pumped for The Winner’s Crime too but I doubt I’ll get an Arc. I’m almost think that’s better though because I’m afraid it’s going to be heartbreaking and then have to wait for the next one.
