Top Ten Favorite Book Covers Of Books I’ve Read

Top Ten Tuesday

Okay, I’m so freaking excited about this week’s TTT topic! I love covers but often don’t super connect with them until I’ve read the book. Then I fall absolutely in love if they actually make sense, haha.

Book that lived up to the cover:

Above World by Jenn Reese  Poison by Bridget Zinn The Emperor's Soul by Brandon Sanderson Fire by Kristin Cashore Bane by Trish Milburn Destiny Binds by Tammy Blackwell
I adored all of the these books. The covers were all shiny and tempting and then I was so happy when reading them. I love that these covers all make sense for the book as well. Above world has necklaces like that sea-horse one that are critical to the story. Poison has a scene that matches the cover perfectly. I pictured the MC of The Emperor’s Soul just like the cover (which also helped set the mood!). Fire obviously has a MC big on archery, haha. Finally the two lesser known favorites: Bane is a second book, so check out White Witch if you haven’t yet, and Destiny Binds is the first in an indie series that is seriously the best indie I’ve ever read. You must check out that trilogy if you like YA urban fantasy!

Books that are pretty but didn’t work for me:

Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff Zenn Scarlett by Christian Schoon The Summer Prince by Alaya Dawn Johnson Red Madrass by Terah Edun
I can’t get enough of these covers, but I didn’t enjoy the books as much as I hoped I would. I know a lot of people liked Stormdancer but it was just too depressing for me. This doesn’t stop me from drooling all over my copy! Zenn Scarlett and The Summer Prince both got me to request them because of those shiny covers, but I ended up being disappointed with the writing styles. Finally, Red Madrassa was a tour book that also swayed me because of that gorgeous cover, but was lacking in the plot department. These are all books that I am still tempted to buy just to have the cover on my shelf >.>.

What have been your favorite covers??

  1. You have some real winners here – awesome selection – Thank you!

  2. Ahhh so much pretty!! Even though I can only technically vouch for Poison, I VERY MUCH want to read Above World, The Emperor’s Soul, the Graceling Series & Stormdancer :) Unsure about The Summer Prince but I do love that cover! Nice picks Anya

  3. I loved how you separated your list :-) I’ve only read Fire – which, like you, I loved – both the cover and the book.

    • Thanks! I was pretty stoked when I thought of it, haha. I am really tempted to get my own copy of Fire, I gave it to a friend for her birthday instead, haha

  4. Great picks! I also really love the cover of Fire and Poison <3 Stormdancer looks good, too, but I read one negative review and got scared to pick up a copy.

Thanks for dropping by my Top Ten Tuesday post! :D

  5. Woah. I haven’t seen The Emperor’s Soul before. Wowza.

  6. Oh I love the cover for Fire. It’s so purty! And the details and colours! Love it!

  7. I listed Stormdancer as well, even though I haven’t even read it (bad me)! I just had to. I like the illustration on the cover of Poison, as well! Nice picks! I like how you told us whether the books lived up to their covers or not.

  8. omg…. So many gorgeous covers here! I have GOT to look into Above World. Wow.

Sucks that those other books disappointed you. I finally got a copy of Stormdancer, but have yet to read it. Actually, I read a few pages and then set the book aside for a later date because I just couldn’t get into it. Argh.

    • Yey, Above World is a great summer read IMO :D

Yeah… you might never get into Stormdancer, I had a hard time with just that

  9. I love the covers of Poison and Stormdancer, but haven’t read either. Great list!

  10. I love the cover of Poison!

  11. Those are all some lovely covers! I haven’t read any of these, but Above World is enticing me just basted on the cover. And I had to laugh when I saw the Red Madrassa cover — that’s the second book I’ve looked at in the last 24 hours that uses the Swallow’s Nest Castle (Ukraine) on the cover. (The other is Patricia Kindl’s Keeping the Castle, which I considered including as one of my picks.)

    • Yey, I thought Above World really lived up to the cover too, I would love if you read it :D

Haha, wow that is crazy cover twin spotting! Isn’t it funny when those stock images start showing up everywhere??

  12. Stormdancer is GORGEOUS. It definitely would’ve made my list if I’d read it – sadly, I don’t think I will; based on reviews I’ve seen I don’t think I’d love it. But I’m a big fan of The Emperor’s Soul cover – the painted style is really striking. And the cover of Above World is gorgeous!! I might have to check that one out, it sounds good.

    My Top Ten

    • You’re probably not missing anything with Stormdancer, I was quite sad when it wasn’t as good as I had hoped. You do have to check out Above World though, excellent book!

  13. I love the cover for The Emperor’s Soul! I really need to read some Brandon Sanderson already…
The covers for Zenn Scarlett and Storm Dancer are stunning, too!
Thanks for sharing your picks :) You can check out mine here.

  14. I love it how you divided your picks, why didn’t I think of that? :)
I only read Fire from your list but I was meh about the cover, probably because I loved the book so much.
I also adore covers for Poison and Stormdancer, I hope I will have time to read them soon!
Top ten favorite book covers of books I’ve read…

    • Haha, you’re welcome to borrow it next time :D Fire is a pretty simple cover, I admit, but for some reason I just love the red/orange thing haha

  15. Wow, those are some gorgeous covers. It’s a shame when books can’t live up to their covers, but it happens.
I love the cover of The Emperor’s Soul.

  16. I’ve been looking at Poison for a while because of that cover. I may just have to pick it up. Stormdancer is on my shelf and Zen Scarlett has a great cover, though the alien animal aspect is what held my attention through out the book.

    • Isn’t the cover adorable?? You do have to accept that it isn’t super high fantasy, much lighter like the cover portrays it, hehe
