Top Ten Halloween (Costume!) Books

Top Ten Tuesday

Thanks to the gals of The Broke and The Bookish for hosting this meme every week!

So this week’s topic is actually more focused on scary books and book covers, but I’m such a wimp that I don’t even mark books that look like they’ll be too scary for me. I just completely avoid anything that seems like it will have scary paranormal elements or gore of any kind >.>. But, my favorite thing about Halloween is getting to dress up in awesome costumes (because really I just want to wear fantasy clothing every day of the year, but people look at you funny if you’re over five….). Therefore, I’m listing my top ten Halloween costume-inspiring books ;-).

Who wants to be human?!

Reboot Cinder Codex Born Days of Blood and Starlight Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Halloween means that I can be whatever I want to be right? Well being human is boring, being a Reboot, cyborg, dryad, chimaera, or witch sounds soooooo much better! Reboots look mostly human but have glowy eyes, so there would mostly just need to be awesome contacts and black clothes. Painting my limbs to look like cyborg appendages would be freaking awesome, but I’d have to ask my artist friend to help ;-). While Lena the dryad mostly looks human, I would totally embellish with some tree accessories >.>. Being Karou would be pretty fun and not too hard with some blue hair dye and markers, but if I wanted to go all out I’d totally get antelope horns :D. Finally, I think many of us have actually dressed up as a witch or wizard for Halloween and I was definitely Cho Chang for at least one year!

Just give me the pretties :D

Republic of Thieves   The Summer Prince Grave Mercy

That being said, it wouldn’t be so bad being human if I got to wear cooler clothes! And yes, I can wear cool clothes like this if I really want to, but I’m so bad at making an effort in the morning ;-). So the clothing on the cover of Republic of Thieves are actually all costumes anyway, but those masks! I wants them. I also want Yukiko’s tattoos and badass sword, and while I’m asking, Buruu would be totally welcome as well, hehe. The way the Grisha’s robes are described, and pictured on the UK edition, make me want to snuggle up in them while looking gorgeous at the same time. I of course would want a sun summoner robe because it is the best! June from The Summer Prince really does implant lights in her arm to make a glowy tattoo and I think I would need to wear a sleeve to pull that costume off since implanting lights in your body is apparently not advised…. Finally, Ismae (I totally should have used her for last week’s favorite names!) gets to wear all the pretty dresses, but I’d also want to carry a crossbow and a few daggers to complete the costume and confuse people who haven’t read Grave Mercy, hehe.

Jamie totally figured out how to make a Cinder (and others!) costume and I’m envious ;-).

Also check out this adorable pumpkin carving I spotted on campus this week:

Calvin and Hobbes Carving

So, I’m not actually dressing up this year, but those are the costumes I wish I had the energy to make! :D What Halloween books did you include in your list this week? :D Are you wearing an awesome costume for Halloween this year, because if so, there MUST be pictures!

    • Aw thanks so much hun! I’m filled up on posts currently, so I won’t be able to actually do the post for it, but I appreciate the thought <3

  3. I could totally go dressed as the Darkling. Or a heart render. That would be fun! Though I’m not sure I want to terrify the children at my church ;)

    • Hehe, terrifying children isn’t so good, but unless you went around squishing hearts, you probably wouldn’t look that scary right? Just have an awesome cape :D
