Top Ten SF/F Books I Need to Buy

Top Ten Tuesday

Thanks to the gals of The Broke and The Bookish for hosting this meme every week!

I feel the need to start this week’s topic out with the confession that I own A LOT of books and I tend to buy them very soon after they come out even if I know I won’t have a chance to read them very soon >.>. Therefore, it was rather hard for me to go through my entire TBR list and find books that I’m still really excited about but don’t own! And so I cheated a bit by including books that aren’t out yet ;-).

Because they aren’t published

Dead Heat Unbound Captive Firefight

  1. Dead Heat – The next book in the Alpha and Omega series :D. I love Charlie so much and that is all that needs to be said ;-).
  2. Unbound – Woohoo book magic!!! And so much pretty!
  3. Captive – I was totally a black sheep on Pawn and adored it so I’m quite excited for the second book. I also really like the cover because the emphasis on her eye color makes sense ;-).
  4. Firefight – Sensing a pattern here? A pattern that is “Anya wants all the sequels RIGHT NAO!” Yeah me too.

Silverblind Endsinger Shadow Scale The Fifth Season

  1. Silverblind – I’m completely in love with this steampunk/alternative history with fairies world and I love Dora so this companion novel has be salivating quite a bit.
  2. Endsinger – I think all of us who love The Lotus War books has to admit to being a masochist yes? Yes.
  3. Shadow Scale – I really wasn’t kidding about just wanting all the sequels to all the books I loved last year. I’m also really happy that I have the original red cover for Seraphina since I think it’ll match this blue much better than the purple >.>.
  4. The Fifth Season – Oh look not a sequel! I love NK Jemisin and I love premises with apocalyptic events occurring regularly on a world.

Just no excuse besides forgetting

Hammered Of Neptune

  1. Hammered – This is the third Iron Druid book and my only excuse is that I don’t have an Audible credit to use to buy it yet >.>.
  2. Of Neptune – I really liked Of Poseidon even though I was a black sheep, but I haven’t gotten to the second book yet so don’t feel justified in purchasing the third. But I’m kind of looking forward to getting it from the library (I don’t really want those covers on my shelf….) and diving in right away ;-D.

So those are the books I’m planning to buy as soon as they are available (I should just pre-order really…) and/or as soon as I am in a book buying mood. I go through major book buying mood swings from one month to the next and right now I’m just not feeling like adding to the pile (probably because my apartment is starting to become a fire hazard at the moment). What do you most want to buy??

    • I’m also a huge fan of the cover of Captive! I wish that Of Neptune had the heroine looking a bit stronger, but oh well ;-)

  2. Arg! Shadow Scale! I am so ready for that book to come out.

  3. Hahah that’s awesome! I haven’t heard of any of these books but Silverblind looks like its set in an amazing world, I need to read the actual novel/series for it! AND SANDERSON! I’m in the middle of reading all of his books haha! Also I need to read Seraphina too!

    • Thanks :D Oo yey, the first book for Silverblind is Ironskin and they are actually all companions so you can really read them in any order :D

  4. You’re not alone. I am SO excited for Captive!

  5. *chanting* FIREFIGHT. I need it NOW!!!

And how is it that I entirely missed The Lotus War books?? Is Endsinger the final one?

    • Do you think if we organize a rally outside the pubs office we’ll get it sooner?? >.>

Omg!! Yes, Endsinger is the conclusion and they are so addictive and dark and wonderful! The writing vastly improves from book one to book two as well, so don’t get disheartened if you don’t love book one ;-) Book one is Stormdancer :D

  6. OOhh nice ones!! I just read Of Neptune and it was awesome! And I loooove the Iron Druid Chronicles, I still need to read the latest one though.

Captive is definitely on my list to read in November too! And I am still debating over Seraphina but will likely be adding it to my TBR pile at some point!

    Here’s my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

    • Yey, I’m so excited for Of Neptune! I’m waiting for one of those “I just want addictive writing and action” moods to hit to catch up hehe.

  7. I totally need to read that Tina Connolly series. I have the first two books on my shelf and have just been SLOW AS MOLASSES about reading them. Also can’t wait for the Jemisin & Hartmann titles. GAH! So much goodness. Great list!

  8. ZOMG! I love your list! I can’t wait for Dead Heat, Unbound, Silverblind, Firefight, Endsinger, The Fifth Season, and Shadow Scale! Ah! SO many books and so little time! Ah! I love the Iron Druid Chronicles! Hammered shakes the series up big time!

    • Thanks :D It’s basically my omg must preorder list for the next six months, haha. I’m really excited to read Hammered since I keep hearing that it is one of the best!

  9. I can’t wait for Dead Heat and Shadow Scale! Great list!

    • So excited for Dead Heat! I just finished the collection of short stories that is coming out soon and it made me really wish that Dead Heat was out!

  10. I completely understand your dilemma. I’ve gotten really bad about buying books and then not having time to read them, too, so we will allow the cheating. But just this once. ;) Great list!

  11. Haha! That’s also the only scenario I can think of where I’d want to read a book so badly but don’t have it – because it’s not published yet!

  12. YOu totally cheated! You should have just modified the list to be ones you needed to read instead of buy if you already owned them! LOL Cause I know I’m in the same boat as you – I own pretty much all the ones I want to read. But unlike you I don’t always buy them anymore as soon as they come out because I figure I’ll wait for the price to drop or by the time I want to read them they might be on book outlet. Except the ones that are from my favorite authors I buy those immediately if I don’t get them for review!

    • Haha, I do what I want! And it was honestly such a good idea for me to make a list of books that I actually really really want since now it is easier to resist over requesting other arcs ;-)

I have such a weird mental thing with buying books these days since I love my local indie so I want to give them money and that’s how I justify not waiting for a lower price *is so weird*

  13. I can’t wait for that last Lotus War book! Ahhhh!

  14. I have been staying away at looking at coming soon books. I am seriously trying to use my library more until I get down to a less than 25% unread in the house (which means I have years of trying to avoid buying books LOL—won’t work but if I can cut back it will be good) :)

    • I’m with you on the library preference, I love not worrying about making any sort of commitment as with ARCs or buying books, haha. I think that now I have the eight that I really want in front of me, I’m content not looking for anymore for some reason :D

  15. The Fifth Season is done, that is the hardest part about that wait. They delayed it for publishing reasons only.

  16. I’m total oposite. I usually have only 3 or 4 unread books I have bought and I don’t buy new ones until I read them. If I would have the same attitude about ARCs, I have huge piles of them ( virtual piles in my Kindle lol).
Hey you are not the only black sheep. I loved Pawn too!
    And Shadowscale! *drooling*

    • Haha, I wish I had your self control! I end up buying books when I wish I had more reading time since somehow my want of reading books translates into a need to buy them >.>

      Yey Pawn fans unite!

  17. I have Ensinger and Shadowscale on my wishlist, and I can’t wait until they’re out! I have a bunch of books that I want to read but don’t own, and I’m trying to use the library to read most of them :)

    • I realized while making this list how close the release of Endsinger is and it makes my heart go pitter patter! ;-)

  18. Funny, I just bought “Seraphina” a couple weeks ago. Haven’t read it yet, since my to-read list is about a mile long now (*lol*), but I’ll get to it eventually!

One particular book that isn’t out yet but I’m looking forward to reading is Karina Sumner-Smith’s “Radiant.” I don’t remember the entire summary off the top of my head… but it seems like an urban fantasy set in the future, in a world where magic is viewed like currency or wealth. So, if you don’t have magical powers, you’re deemed poor. There’s also a paranormal twist with ghosts, and an emphasis on friendship between the two female leads as opposed to a romance between a man and a woman. It sounds really interesting.
