Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Happy Valentine’s and Galentine’s day! I hope you’re doing something fun either with someone you love or celebrating yourself :D. It was a bit of a weird week at work, but I’ve been loving the books I’ve been reading!

My Week

The Lyre ThiefI started The Lyre Thief on Thursday and I’m already almost done with it despite it’s hefty page count. I’ve just really been loving these characters and something about the writing. I was worried the politically driven plot wouldn’t appeal, but these aren’t boring characters at all ;-). It’s really about two girls who have switched places, a princess and her slave as they figure out their new lives while gods play games around them. In any case, loving it so much!

BorderlineI also just started Borderline and I’m fascinated! I absolutely love that the main character is a double amputee who still stars in the action. She also is rather prickly with Borderline Personality Disorder, but I love prickly characters, so I don’t mind, ha. I’m really excited to see how things play out.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

The Tale of Yin A Natural History of Dragons Alcatraz Versus The Evil Librarians The Last Days of Magic

We’re starting a read along of The Tale of Yin this week, so I’m really excited to read this duology of shorter fiction, it looks fascinating. I also joined another buddy reading group and will likely be starting A Natural History of Dragons FINALLY! If there is time between both of those, I think I’ll start the rerelease of Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians since it looks awesome. I know a lot of Sanderson fans don’t like this series since it is so different from his usual, but since I love middle grade, I think I’ll enjoy it ;-). Finally, if I finish my audio read of Winter, I’ll be starting The Last Days of Magic on audio :D.

What are you reading this week?

  1. I just received a copy of The Last Days of Magic and I don’t know how I’m going to fit it in, but I’m definitely going to try. It sounds fantastic!

  2. I still have yet to finish the second dragon book. I did enjoy the first but wasn’t as blown away as I’d hoped.

    • You listened on audio right? It is definitely slow at times and you missed the gorgeous illustrations! But I have been in the mood for that slower, quieter historical fantasy style lately so it was perfect. I’m so glad I already have the first three books so I don’t have to break my buying ban haha!

  3. A Natural History of Dragons sounds like a must read for me. I hope you get the chance to read it soon. I look forward to your thoughts on it.

    • I absolutely loved it! It has that wonderful historical fantasy feel and Lady Trent includes so many fun comments in her memoir style, so recommended!

  4. Next weeks books look great! I hope you enjoy and have a wonderful week! Happy Valentine’s Day!
