Updates from the Lair 10/18/15

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Hey loves! I feel rather like a zombie this week since we got back into the state at midnight Monday night and then I headed right back on the road again for school meetings and a Brandon Sanderson signing! Needless to say, I was really happy to finally sleep in my bed last night. But besides all that fun, we got a bird feeder set up at the new house and I’m possibly more excited than I should be, but we have cardinals and they are so lovely!!!! :D

My Week

Last Song Before NightI finished Last Song Before Night this week and ended up quite enjoying it! The beginning is slow, but the end is explosive with magic and sneaking around saving the day ;-). I’m excited to see what Myer writes next though I kind of want to know more about the world of Last Song Before Night first…. Maybe she’ll do a spin-off? :D

Owl and the City of AngelsI’m quite behind on my e-reads, but I’m halfway through Owl and the City of Angels at least! I’m finding things dragging a bit compared to the pace I prefer for urban fantasy, but I think things will pick up now that certain developments have occurred >.>.

A Crucible of SoulsThanks to Audible, my new audio read is A Crucible of Souls. I had been curious about this one since hearing about it’s backstory of starting as an indie pub that got a lot of attention (ala The Martian), so I’m excited to give it a try. I’m really liking the magic so far!

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Soundless Silver on the Road Our Lady of the Ice The Weight of Feathers

So I’m at an odd spot where I finished my last physical book and haven’t picked up a new one yet because I can’t decide which to read next! These are the four I’m deciding between at the moment, anyone really liked or really disliked any of them?

Happy Reading!

  1. Sounds like you had a busy week. I hope you can catch up on some sleep now! Yay for the signing and getting the bird feeder set up. I can’t wait to read Soundless, I already have it pre-ordered and waiting for it to arrive. Have a great week!

  2. Ooh, I have been recommended The Weight of Feathers so I vote for that one if you’ve not yet decided! Also, I’d probably be excited if I had cardinals, too, because they’re so pretty! Instead I just have random birds that scrape against my window all the time and startle me when it’s late at night lol.

    • Oh dear! We have deer and acorns that do that! Seriously, all the acorns keep falling on our roof all night long D:

  4. It’s so fun when birds find the feeder so quickly! I’m totally with you in your excitement:). I have really been eyeing Silver on the Road, I love wierd westerns, so I will be interested to hear your thoughts on it!

    • Yes, love the birds so much! I need to figure out what all of them are, haha.

I’m so pumped for the weird western trend and really excited about Silver on the Road too!

  5. Oh, Silver on the Road is so good! I reviewed it last month. Gilman writes amazing fantasy.

A slow pace seems to be a common complaint for Owl and the City of Angels; it’s on my wish list.

Have a great week and happy bird watching!

    • Yey, that’s so exciting to hear! I hadn’t seen a lot of reviews for it so was just going on how cool the premise sounded :D Glad I bought a copy now!

  6. I loved The Weight of Feathers, and I just started Our Lady of the Ice and it’s REALLY good so far. And I have both Soundless and Silver on the Road on my list to read, so I don’t think you can go wrong. (I guess that wasn’t very helpful, um, read The Weight of Feathers!)

    • Haha, it is reassuring to know that any of the choices would be fun ;-). I think I’ll be reading all four in a row, just the order to be determined
