Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Happy November! I’m quite glad October is over since it ended up being a rather crazy roller coaster of a month ;-). We had a few trick-or-treaters last night, but it was raining so we were left with extra candy that I really don’t need to eat…. I discovered how to fit in more reading time: have the husband enroll in online classes that eat every second of his free time! Really, I’ve been working on my dissertation during that time mostly, but it’s still been nice to have extra productivity time.

My Week

Sweep in Peace

I’ve just finished Sweep in Peace, which is the second book in the serially published Innkeeper Chronicles. I don’t like reading on my computer, so I wait until the full story is done and read the book version. I didn’t like this one quite as much as the first book, but it is a fun series that really plays with mixing urban fantasy and alien science fiction! Also omg look at that cover *drools*.

Simon Thorn and the Wolf's DenI’ll be finishing Simon Thorn and the Wolf’s Den very soon and I am quite enjoying it. It’s a good middle grade in that it is action-packed and interesting, though I did see the twist coming ;-). This is going to be a great series for the younger generation and their parents who loved Animorphs though, haha.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Half Lies Grave Visions Planetfall Tower of Thorns Raining Embers

I grabbed an ecopy of Half Lies from my library, so I think I’m going to read that novella next. It’ll go fast though so I’ll probably start on Raining Embers this week as well! I just got Grave Visions and can’t wait to start a new urban fantasy series that everyone has loved, so I’ll probably jump into that for my physical book ;-). If I finish it, which is quite possible given its size, I think I’ll start Planetfall since I read the first page on the way back from the post office and loved it! Finally, Tower of Thorns comes out this week and I’ve been waiting to listen to it on audio, so I’m really really excited to start it :D. What are you going to read this week?

Happy Reading!

  1. Ilona Andrews always has such juicy delicious covers for her books! Also, what is this about Animorphs? I loved animorphs!! Good times…

  2. I’m also relieved that October is over. It was a crazy month for me, between work, busyness at home, and my first head cold of the season. Here’s to a less stressful, more productive November for both of us!

I shouldn’t read your review of Tower of Thorns once you’ve read it, since I’ve still yet to read Dreamer’s Pool… But I will, since I love what I’ve read from Juliet Marillier so far. :) Also interesting in reading your thoughts about Raining Embers.

  3. I can hardly believe it’s November either. The year is flying by. I liked the first Sweep book by Andrews, but I’m waiting for this one to be reduced in price. Sorry to hear it wasn’t as good as the first.

Happy reading and have a good week!

    • It’s going to be New Years before we know it! Yeah, still very enjoyable and fun, just not quite the same sparkle as when we were discovering this crazy world the first time ya know?

  4. LOL! Genius way to get the hubby out from under foot!!

  5. I can’t say I’m totally happy October’s over, but only because it means winter and finals (which I am in no way ready for) are that much closer. And having your husband enroll in online classes? That’s one devious way to get your free time back. ;)

    • Haha, yeah, I’m so happy I’m not taking classes any more, not worrying about finals is great ;-). Though now I worry for husband instead, sigh
