Updates from the Lair 11/22/15

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

We have snow! It snowed all day yesterday here and now we are in a winter wonderland with several inches of snow covering all the trees. Good thing we got our leaves cleaned up on Friday, haha. Who knows if it will stick, but we’re heading off for Thanksgiving in Minnesota this week, so hopefully the roads aren’t too bad!

My Week

Wake of VulturesI started the audio of Wake of Vultures this week and it is so excellent! I’ve been cooking more recently, I blame the weather, and realized that that is prime audiobook listening time :D. I’m quite in love with this weird west trend of Western + Fantasy mashup and Wake of Vultures really embodies that. Plus, the MC is something like bisexual, and half-Native American, half-Black, so it is great seeing this story in mainstream fantasy.

RedI’m about halfway through Red: The True Story of Red Riding Hood and it is absolutely delightful! Red is a cantankerous young witch and I adore her. The writing is also really adorable and fun, making it an excellent middle grade.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Since I’ll be traveling, I’ll have a lot of reading time! Here are the books I’m planning on bringing with me, let me know which I should make sure to read :D.

Grave Dance Mystic Legacy of Kings Dragon Hunters Dreaming Death

  1. You had snow??! I am so jealous! We have had rain. Lots and lots of rain. We won’t have snow until the end of January, if we get any at all. It has been a bit warm this year.

  2. Oooooo yes read Nimona! Just because. Not that I have read it, YET. I heard such good things about that graphic novel. And if you do read Legacy of Kings, let me know because I kind of had a bad time with that one. DON’T LET THAT STOP YOU.

  3. I am very jealous of your snow!

I have heard excellent things about Rat Queens, although I have not read it. I did read Nimona back when it was only available as a web comic, and quite enjoyed it.

  4. Too. Soon. For. Snow.

That’s a lot of books you’re taking. Are you planning on interacting with humans at all, lol?

Red: The True Story of Red Riding Hood looks good; glad to hear it’s off to a good start.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  5. I keep forgetting about Wake of Vultures. Gah, I have a lovely ARC from BEA that is sitting on my shelf just begging to be read. I should pick it up next. I like the fantasy/western blend that’s currently happening too!

  6. Well, there is snow all around us, but nothing here at home – yet. Threats of RAIN for Thanksgiving proper and then some snow after that. Just a warning …..

I’ve gotten side tracked by a historical fantasy that doesn’t involve much magic but has been a great read!!
