Updates from the Lair 11/29/15

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

*yawns* I’m clearly still recovering from the turkey coma ;-). I’ve been getting a lot of reading done during our great Minnesota Adventure though!

My Week

City of LightI’m halfway through City of Light and quite enjoying it. I loved Arthur’s previous series about phoenix, so I was excited to give a sci-fi series a try. It is definitely different from her other series, but lots of fun.

Rat Queens: Sass and SorceryOMG I love Rat Queens!!!! I was caught between forcing everyone around me to immediately read the copy I brought with and wanting to save it for myself to reread immediately. I love these ladies so much and this graphic novel hit all the elements that I love. I have volume two waiting for me at home and I NEED IT.

NimonaWhile we’re chatting comics, I also just finished Nimona! I didn’t love it as much as Rat Queens, though that is a pretty high bar. It’s definitely a different style. It’s cute and fun, but I don’t really see what all the fuss is about I guess.

Dreaming DeathFinally, I read Dreaming Death on the long car ride out! It’s quite good, though slower paced. I loved reading about a blind heroine who doesn’t get a magic fix and the cultures are really cool and unique. I’m curious to see where the series goes.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

The Night Parade Dragon Hunters

I obviously haven’t gotten through everything I brought to read, so according to last week’s poll results, I’ll be reading The Night Parade as my next e-book and there was a lot of ties, so I decided on Dragon Hunters as my physical book on the way back to Michigan!

Happy Reading!

  1. I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed Dreaming Death. I just came across it and thought it sounded awesome, but I hadn’t heard from anyone that had read it yet. (Maybe that’s because it hasn’t released yet, but it sounds so good that I’m kind of in a hurry for it.) Anyway, I’m definitely more excited about the book now that I know the heroines blindness isn’t ‘fixed’ – as that was something I was very worried about.

Recently I finished watching an anime show that dealt with ‘The Night Parade of a Hundred Demons’ so when I saw one of your upcoming reads titled ‘The Night Parade’ that’s immediately what I thought of – I just never expected it to have anything to do with it. Would love to know what you think about it after you read it!

  2. Oh, I didn’t realize that Arthur’s new book was science fiction, that’s different for her.

Happy reading and have a good week!

  4. How weird. You know that thing where you’ve never heard of something but, as soon as you do, it’s suddenly everywhere? I was told about two graphic novels last week that I’d never heard of, and now you’ve read both of them lol. I’m looking to try more graphic novels, so I’ll have to consider adding Rat Queens to my TBR.

    • Haha I know exactly what you mean! Sometimes I wonder if it is purposeful viral advertising or not. Yes, you must read Rat Queens, it is my favorite of the graphic novels that I’ve read so far!
