Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Ah, December. The month that is fun but also rather stresses me out because I suck at getting gifts on time…. I didn’t get a lot of reading done this week since I’ve been trying to really push on school work and make progress on my dissertation. We’re heading back to Minnesota tomorrow to help my father-in-law with a chemo appointment, so I’ll get some reading done then, though I wish it wasn’t under these circumstances. Hence also why I’ve been pushing hard on writing this week to make up for missing last week and this coming week…. Anyway, on to the books!

My Week

MonstrousI started the audiobook of Monstrous this week and am loooooooving it! Kym is adorable and while I saw the big twist coming right away, I’ve been enjoying the alternative perspective of the classic fairytale. The narration is also generally enjoyable and makes me like Kym all the more.

The RavenI’m a little over halfway through The Raven and it is an enjoyable fantasy that is a little different from the norm, though I’ve hit a slow patch with it. We’ll see how things progress!

Dragon HuntersI’m only about a hundred pages in to Dragon Hunters since I lost the light when reading in the car back from Thanksgiving D:. It was so freaking cloudy even at 2pm that I couldn’t hardly see the words and it was giving me a headache, sigh. I need to get back into this one, but I like the start and the new characters!

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Inherit the Stars Saturn Run The Seventh Bride The Drowning Eyes Witches of Lychford Binti

As I said above, I’m traveling again this week and I’m not sure how long we’ll need to stay, so I’m bringing lots of books! Dragon Hunters will probably keep me occupied for a while since it’s chunky, but I need e-books for reading in the dark, ha. So these are the ebooks I’ll be thinking about reading, which should I start with?

What should I read first?

  1. Ooh, Monstrous <3 That book was so much fun. And I'm so thrilled to finally find someone else that's reading the book, because it almost seems like no one has. Yeah, the 'big twist' was one I saw coming really early too, but I am so glad I kept reading. Hope you continue loving the book.

    • Yey, I’m at 70% and can’t wait to have the chance to finish. I agree, I didn’t see that much coverage, but I think I’ll need to push it on everyone and there is a second book :D

  2. I also suck at getting gifts on time. EVERY YEAR, I say it’ll be different and EVERY YEAR, I end up at the last minute. AGAIN. O.O Hopefully you won’t get too stressed out but if you do: f*** it and read XD GOOD LUCK with your dissertation…and with the father in law’s chemo appointment D:

PS: I can’t wait to read your thoughts on Monstrous!

    • Haha, Amazon is the answer to everything ;-). I just ordered a massive amount of books to give to everyone :D

I’m really enjoying Monstrous, the audiobook is great!

  3. Hahaha, your poll is not very helpful right now. :P I’ve very curious to know what you think of both Saturn Run and The Drowning Eyes.

I’m with you on the late presents thing. I can never find anything if I go looking for presents, so I’m always giving people gifts at random times throughout the year instead, when something catches my eye.

    • Ha, when I saw your comment I worried that it was broken or something and then realized what you meant ;-). Yeah, it usually takes a while for a winner to fall out ;-)

  4. Witches of Lychford looks very interesting! I hadn’t heard of that one before. Happy reading next week!
