Updates from the Lair 12/28/15

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Well, we finally got snow, though it was a day after Christmas, haha. We’re still driving around seeing all our family and I’m getting a lot of reading done, yey! I didn’t ask for any books for Christmas since, let’s be honest, I still need to read a few from last year…. But I did get giftcards so that I can get the exciting 2016 releases I want ;-). If you celebrate, did you get anything exciting??

My Week

SouldrifterI read Souldrifter at the beginning of the week and really enjoyed it! It’s awesome when a sequel surpasses book one and wow none of these characters were safe. I like it when favorite characters die early so that you know that anyone could die, adds to the tension ;-).

The Bone LabyrinthI then read The Bone Labyrinth and wow, I should have known better than to hope a thriller was going to have enough sci-fi for me to be happy. I think this is my first one-star read that I actually finished in a loooooong time. I liked the first half a lot and then things went down the crazy rabbit hole of conspiracy theories and bad science, ugh.

Fire TouchedI also tore through Fire Touched this week! This was my work-out reading and kept me on the treadmill for an hour at a time :D. The plot honestly meanders quite a bit and there isn’t the main quest for a while, but I still enjoyed reading since, you know, these characters rock ;-).

A Week Without TuesdayFinally, I’m almost done with A Week Without Tuesday and I’m really loving this sequel! This middle grade series is so delightful with lovely illustrations and a really imaginative world. Definitely a must read for young writers.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Black Wolves Glyphbinder

I’ve gotten through most of the physical books I brought with me, so I think I have Black Wolves left to read and then I’ll be working through my Kindle books! I snagged a copy of a bonus unpublished snippet from Brandon Sanderson from his website, so I think I might give that a try and see how his first drafts compare to the final products ;-). Then I have a new review book, Glyphbinder, that I’ll start on this week.

Happy Reading!

  1. I need to figure out how to steal your ability to read in the car. I could’ve had a solid 34 hours of reading (minus sleep). Oh well, such is life. ;) At least you had 3/4 good books. The Tuesday series sounds really fun! I’ll have to track that down at the library. I hope you guys have safe travels and a happy new year!

  2. I got Fire Touched a few weeks ago and tore through it too. :) Yay for gift cards!!! I got some too.

    Happy New Year!

  3. We’re just getting our snow right now LOL! Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were super mild and rainy. Sigh.

Go Anya for getting all that reading done WHILE visiting family :D That’s the good thing about driving far, you get lots of reading done ♥ I was gifted some books from bloggers and publishers but I didn’t ask for any either – my mom is always good for gift cards though…which I’ve already spent for pre-orders too haha!
