Updates from the Lair 3/1/15

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

My loves! I’ve been a bit absent from the blog this week I’m afraid and again allowed comments to go unanswered for much longer than I’d like D:. I know you all forgive me and I appreciate it since it helps me not stress when I get home at 9pm and just want to sleep, haha. However, I also love this place and really want to keep chatting with you all, so I will try to stay caught up when I can ;-). I’m writing this at 11pm on Friday night (sitting on my exercise ball like a good invalid!) because I have a busy weekend of catching up with some friends I haven’t seen for a while and then all the grading and hopefully a bit of post writing and responding to comments! Oh and working on research proposals, research blog posts, starting some experiments and reading research papers…. There’s five days in a weekend right?

My Week

Death Marked I freaking loved book one, so I decided to stop putting off Death Marked when I finished my last eARC before I was completely tired enough to fall asleep, haha. I’m already enjoying sinking back into the fast and fun writing and the cool world, this time with more magic :D. I think these couple weeks will be the weeks of reading those ARCs I was so excited about and then didn’t get to right away!

Lion HeartGoing along with the theme of ARCs I’ve been putting off, I borrowed an ARC of Lion Heart and can’t resist anymore. I woke up at about 5 am Friday morning with insomnia from panic thinking about the upcoming surgery and was so grateful to have Lion Heart next to my bed to distract me. Scarlet’s troubles are worse than my own after all ;-). And I’ve gotten so used to her use of “were” that it is comforting to read it now, ha!

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

There is a small chance that I’ll magically power through both of my current reads to magically start a new book this week, but it’s pretty unlikely unless I give up sleep ;-). However, I will be finished Winner’s Crime on audio very soon and don’t have another review audio to listen to, so it’s time to decide on a new one! Here are the ones I already own and could listen to:

Falling Kingdoms Anansi Boys Poison Study Station Eleven

Which do you think will be addicting and engrossing enough to have me making excuses to listen? :D

Happy Reading!

  1. Anya =] Don’t worry, I’ve had the same problem with keeping up to date with my blog! Sometimes that happens. You’ll get back into the swing of things in no time, and it’s good that you have a method for keeping your mind off your surgery. No use letting yourself stress out before it’s even arrived!

Your line up of books are always so delicious I’m just like *drool. drool.* Station Eleven and Falling Kingdoms are on my TBR, but not very high up because I bumped up some other things. *sigh* That’s always the way with these things!!

    • I’m finally getting back into things here :D I still need to listen to Station Eleven, but I will! Soon! >.>

  2. You poor thing! I can relate. Lately I’ve been running on pure steam as well – that’s the way it goes sometimes. Hope things slow down for you soon!

  3. Sleeping is good! I’ve been working like 6-days a week and battling a flu bug with fever and all that fun stuff D: so I’ve been absent too. Glad your enjoying Death Marked and Lion Heart. I wasn’t sold on Death Sworn but seeing that there’s more magic in the sequel is encouraging! I still need to get into Scarlet myself though. Hope you’re having a good week! xx

    • Boo flu! I had a cold, but it definitely doesn’t compare, haha. Definitely lots more magic in Death Marked! And I think higher stakes that really matter ya know?

  4. Now to check out Death marked…

  5. There are only 5 days in a weekend if you unplug Netflix…which I may have failed to do this weekend. >.>

Best of luck on the grading and socializing and other assorted time munchers!

  6. Poison Study! Assassins!
Although Fallen Kingdoms was also quite good and a lot like Game of Thrones.

    • So I just finished Falling Kingdoms and definitely agree with you, except that I didn’t really like Game of Thrones ;-) Court intrigue is just not my thing D:

  7. Wow, sounds like you really needed the break that you got to hang out with your buds. If only the rest of the weekend could be equally fun, right? Ooooh Anansi Boys, I’ve heard nothing but good things about that one! Hope you like it. :)

  8. Don’t stress out about your blog and make sure you get enough sleep, getting enough sleep is important! I vote for Poison Study for your next audiobook! I recently read Shadow Study and it reminded me how much I enjoyed this series!

    • Hehe, thanks! Yeah, I fortunately have been able to put the blog firmly in the hobby part of my brain so I don’t stress about deadlines even for review books like I used to. Instead I just wish that I could read more since I want to read all the books! I definitely think Poison Study is winning with three votes now :D

  9. Adelynne Chang says:

All these books look great! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on them. :)

  10. OoOooO Fallen Kingdoms has piqued my interest! That or it must be my recent obsession with Assassins Creed :P
My little ones and I are on a research adventure too (bleh) it’s that time of year Science Fairs and all. Anyway, I hope you have a lovely week ahead Anya :)

  11. POISON STUDY! *lol* Well, it’s the only one I can recommend because it’s the only one on your list that I’ve read. XD I do have Falling Kingdoms, too, but I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet.

Oh, sleep is important, dear. Especially with everything else you’ve got going on, it’s good to rest and give yourself a break. ;) You’ll get through it all, I’m sure! Just don’t push yourself too hard.

    • I have been dutifully sleeping lots this weekend :D And I think Poison Study will be next, I ended up grabbing Half Bad spontaneously since I got the sequel, but I always have to have a break between series books

  12. Kelly G. says:

I’m reading Anansi Boys now! On audiobook, so it’s taking forever. :) So far so good though.

    • Haha, I know that feeling! I always end up trying to fit in more time to listen but some weeks it just doesn’t happen

  13. I listened to Poison Study recently on audio and I loved it. That’s my recommendation. :-)

  14. Sleeping is good! On the days when I get home at 9-10 pm, I refuse to turn on the computer, which is why I love that scheduling posts is possible. It’s already Sunday and I haven’t done half of what I wanted to do. I suggest Falling Kingdoms. Ok, I have to admit that I’m a bit biased here because I loved the book and Rebel Spring (I haven’t read the third one yet) and don’t know the others, but this doesn’t make Falling Kingdoms any less awesome.

    • Scheduling posts is definitely the only way I function at all! I did end up tackling Falling Kingdoms and have finished it :D
