Updates from the Lair 3/22/15

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Sorry for being so late on today’s post loves! Having a nice lazy weekend I guess ;-). I’ve been switching off feeling crazy productive and sleeping 12+ hours this week. Definitely still healing and the incision is getting all itchy, but I’m feeling great and working hard at getting in all my steps for the day! I did 5k on average this week and now I’m going to aim for 6k this week (and if I make it, then I get pizza on Friday >.>).

My Week

Stone in the SkyI spontaneously grabbed my ARC of Stone in the Sky this week but I wasn’t sure how far I’d get. I was pretty bored during much of Tin Star, but Stone in the Sky was SO much better! I stayed up to 3am the first night and finished it the next day. There is action, intrigue, cool alien travels, seeing the galaxy, everything I wanted from book one :D. You honestly could just start with this one since there is a bunch of info dumping at the beginning anyway.

Half BadI hadn’t been making much progress on my audio of Half Bad because I didn’t get to drive for a week after the surgery, but then when I turned on the radio on my first day driving, I realized my favorite radio station was bought out D:. Now there are just oldie rock stations and country, which are fine when I’m in the right mood, but when I’m trying to get pumped up for the day I need my alternative ;-). So instead I’ve been listening to Half Bad and gotten to the part where the beginning is explained and am excited that it isn’t as depressing as I feared, haha.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

The Heart of Betrayal The Riverman

I have read the first couple chapters of Heart of Betrayal already and just haven’t had time to read at all this weekend! So hopefully I’ll be finishing that up this week :D. Then I’m also thinking about continuing my middle grade binge by reading The Riverman since I have an ARC of the sequel (which just came out!) that I’d like to read and heard these are great!

Happy Reading!

  1. Yay for recovering! Enjoy being lazy, even though I know it gets old and you just want to get up and DO stuff.

I liked Half Bad myself. I liked that it was so brutal for a YA :D

    • Hehe, exactly! Though then I try to go for a long walk and get tired after fifteen minutes >.> Slowly but surely!

  2. glad to hear your recovering well! Looking forward to seeing what you think of Half a Bad, been thinking about reading that one.

  3. I’m glad to hear you’re doing well! That sucks about the radio station though, we had something similar happen here not long ago and they got rid of our oldest rock station and gave the city a new country station, apparently that’s what people wanted. So all we really have is country and pop now lol.
    Have a great week :D

  4. You deserve a lazy week my dear, you gotta heal yourself up nice and slowly so that it sticks for the long haul ;) Glad to hear you’re feeling good and still working hard! You have some good looking reads going on and coming up too, that should help things along too! Have a good week Anya xx

  6. Glad to hear you’re healing and starting to feel better, Anya! :)

Btw, I’m reading Shadow Scale now – and so far, it’s absolutely wonderful! I haven’t found anything to nitpick yet. :D

  7. I LOVED HoB and Riverman was really good too! I’m so happy you loved Stone in the Sky. I thought the series was oh so good. Some of my favorites really and I can see myself rereading them.

    • I haven’t yet gotten to Riverman, but I read the first chapter of The Whisper and am now convinced that I love these books, just my kind of younger fantasy :D

  8. I’m glad you’re doing well. Take advantage of being lazy while you can! Happy reading.

  9. I finished my listen of Kiss of Deception! It was entertaining. I can’t stand the protagonist, but Pearson spun a pretty good tale, and the effort at her own “deception” at least deserves a couple stars. I thought the book was okay, I’ll probably check out the sequel if the opportunity arises (i.e. if my library gets the audiobook). Looking forward to your thoughts!

    • Hehe, yeah, I like the twist with the boys a lot since it caught me! I didn’t end up liking the sequel much though >.>
