Updates from the Lair 3/27/16

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Is it April yet?? No? I think I’ll come back in a week then…. ;-) I’ve just been trucking along, working on preparing for various things for this summer and my comprehensive exams which will hopefully be the end of April if my last committee member responds to my email any time soon…. Reading here and there where I can, but I suspect things are going to keep interfering with reading until July :(.

My Week

All the Birds in the Sky

I’m still enjoying my audiobook of All the Birds in the Sky though now that I’ve jumped to when the kids are grown up, I’m having to re-situate and figure out what is going on now. This last section was a little slow, but I suspect it’ll pick up again ;-).

The Edge of Worlds

I picked up The Edge of Worlds this week and am really enjoying it. I haven’t read the first trilogy, so I wasn’t sure if I would be confused, but I haven’t had any trouble getting familiar with the world and what a cool world it is! I love the extensive world and all the different intelligent species forming a unique ecosystem. It has my science brain fascinated along with enjoying the story.

The Devil You KnowI randomly started The Devil You Know yesterday and was hooked immediately. I had actually meant to read something else, but I couldn’t tear myself away. The devil comes by to sign a philosopher up for his soul and they get along surprisingly well. I really love the writing style of this novella and I think it’s going to be another favorite novella from Tor.com!

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Tell the Wind and Fire The Paper Menagerie and other stories An Artificial Night

I’m honestly not sure if I’m going to finish my current reads this week, but if I do, here is what I think I’ll read next! I’ve read the first chapter of Tell the Wind and Fire and really enjoyed the start, so I think it’s time to finish. I also still need to get back to The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories since I read the first story and then got side tracked. Finally, we’ll be starting our read along of An Artificial Night on April 9th so you should think about joining us :D.

Happy Reading!

    • Thanks!! I just completely binged Edge of Worlds so that I could finish it before diving into the work week xD

  2. I hope everything goes well with the exams and you hear back soon! School’s ramping up and cutting out reading over here, too. Which really stinks because Marked in Flesh is in the mail and on its way. :( I guess that’ll be the reward for finishing my paper next week. Best of luck, Anya!

    • Thanks! It includes a paper and an oral presentation so it’s going to be rather interesting but hopefully not too bad. Hehe, yes, reading time has to be used to relax and reward yourself!
