Updates from the Lair 4/10/16

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Hello loves! First off, there are just a couple of days left to order The Star-Touched Queen box through the Kickstarter, don’t miss out! I’ve been spending the weekend driving around Minnesota again, and getting a lot of reading done in the car :D.

My Week

An Artificial NightWe’ve started our Artificial Night read along and I’m fascinated by how different this book is from the first two. It’s nice that McGuire doesn’t hold to the same formula and I think I trust her for this change to work well ;-).

WayboundI finished Waybound in one(ish) long drives this week! It was a lot of fun, though rather dark for a middle grade. Maybe more like an intermediate between middle grade and YA? In any case, world of living metal that is being harvested by humans for technology, super cool!

The Jewel and her LapidaryMy e-book is The Jewel and her Lapidary and it’s really beautiful. I love the world we are introduced to and can’t stop lusting after jeweled necklaces while reading this novella, haha. It was confusing at first since there are just so many terms, but I’ve settled in.

Roses and RotI honestly had no idea what to expected with Roses and Rot, but WOW I’m impressed so far. I’m about 100 pages in and so intrigued. There are only hints of something supernatural going on, but the writing is lovely and I have high hopes for something really creepy lurking beneath the surface :D.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

I brought a lot of books along with me on the trip, but now I can’t remember what they are and the bag is out in the car, sigh ;-). But these are the ones I can remember!

Sophie Quire and the Last Storyguard A Shadow All of Light Alcatraz Versus the Scrivener's Bones The Firefly Code

Happy Reading!

  1. Oh a dark MG – I will have to look into that one :)

I really live the cover for the Firefly Code, but all your picks look great!

    Happy reading!

    • Yes! I always struggle with who to recommend dark MG to, but I’m glad some adults like to read it like I do haha

  2. Some of those new MG fantasies look very tempting, Anya! I hope you enjoy whichever book you pick to read next.
