Updates from the Lair 4/12/15

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Another pretty good week though still super busy! I was good and went swimming (well, walking in the pool) twice :D. I’m trying to go every Wednesday with my friends and so far it’s working. I’m really hoping to get caught up with comments and reviews this weekend. I finished grading on Saturday, so in theory I’ll have all day today to do blogging and reading stuff!

My Week

Seriously WickedShort books make me feel so productive ;-). I read Seriously Wicked this week when I needed something light and fun for my tired brain and it was perfect for that! It is a great book to grab for when you want fun urban fantasy plus there are spells in the back :D.

The Grace of KingsThe Grace of Kings is quite enjoyable so far though I don’t think I’ve gotten into the main adventure yet. I really love the world and writing, so even though I haven’t spent much time with the two main characters, I’m intrigued by everything going on in the world!

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Two Serpents Rise The Grace of Kings

I meant to have already started Two Serpents Rise but I’ll be reading the first hundred pages this afternoon for the read-along starting tomorrow! And otherwise I’ll be honest that The Grace of Kings will probably take a couple of weeks because of its size, haha!

Happy Reading!

  1. Short books make me feel productive too! It’s why I always read shorter books when I don’t have too much time to read. A book like Grace of Kings would take me ages to finish now that revising for exams has taken over all my free time.

    • I completely know what you mean! Now that I’m almost done with Grace of Kings, I want to just read a bunch of fast and short books, ha

  2. I’m glad Seriously Wicked was a quick, fun read! I’ll have to keep that in mind if I need a palate cleanser between some of these other books. And you exercised! Me…not too. :P Good idea having a standing appointment with friends to compel you to go.

    • Of course if you get a migraine the one day that you can go exercise with friends, it ruins everything, sigh. But this coming week I will!

  3. I just finished Grace of Kings and loved it. It is lengthy, but well worth it! :)

  4. Heh, yeah, “Grace of Kings” is definitely a doorstopper. It took me a while to read it, too.

(Of course, then I followed it up with “A Crown for Cold Silver,” another 600+ page book, so apparently I didn’t learn my lesson. :p)

    • I don’t know how you do that! I’m at 90% of GoK and am already eyeing the middle grade and short YA in my stack haha

  5. I have to admit it – I’ve delved into some contemporary novels to get ahead on my goal. They are so quick and they’re usually very short. I’m trying to get enough padding so that I can read LotR without getting behind.

    • Haha, that is completely acceptable! Middle grade is my answer to that :D. Just remember that you can always read a bunch more contemporary after LotR if you need to as well ;-)

  6. :D Short books make me feel productive too. Swimming sounds good, and I’m sure it’s good for your back.

    Happy reading!

    • That’s the hope :D Now if I could actually swim for prolonged periods of time instead of just walking haha

  7. Oh, I’ve been thinking about getting around to Seriously Wicked. It looks good, but I just haven’t managed to squeeze it in! Glad it fit in well for you ;)

  8. Seriously Wicked is one I keep seeing and I’m debating on reading, but seeing how you say you like it maybe I will! I might have to get back into swimming too, my mom’s place has a pool that I could use.
    Have a great week!
