Updates from the Lair 5/1/16

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Things that are not allowed: May. Time is flying by this year and it is now the month in which my life gets really crazy! First, I’ll be giving my dissertation proposal oral examination tomorrow, so send me good vibes please. Second, I’ll be starting teaching in two freaking weeks! I’ve got a lot of content scheduled, so I’m hoping you all won’t notice besides the occasional all caps in these updates, but if I do drop the ball, just know that I’ll be back in July ;-). Finally, I’m giving away two signed bookplates for The Star-Touched Queen over on Instagram so don’t miss that!

My Week

A Green and Ancient LightI started A Green and Ancient Light this week and am really loving it! It has this particular writing style that I don’t run into often, but it just makes everything feel like the narrator is an old man telling a story to his grandchildren.

Queen of BloodThen I’m also jumping way ahead and reading Queen of Blood to see if it would be a good fit for the November Books on Dragonwings box :D. So far, I’m absolutely loving it and have all sorts of ideas for awesome items to accompany it ;-).

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Every Heart a Doorway The Summer Dragon Gifted by H. A. Swain

I’ve kind of given up on any kind of schedule, but these are sort of next on the reading list/books I want to make sure I get to, haha. I have the audiobook of Every Heart a Doorway so I’m excited to listen to that. Then I am really excited about The Summer Dragon for obvious reasons, but I’m sure I won’t get it reviewed by pub date, oh well! You should go check it out :D. Finally, I think I’ll be trying Gifted next. I’m not sure that it will be the right book for my mood, but I’ll of course at least give it a try!

Happy Reading!

  1. Good luck with all your May happenings hun!

You should totally read the Summer Dragon. I really liked it for the most part. I had a few small issues, but overall I’m really glad to have gotten a copy.

Do you have an eARC of The Summer Dragon? I’m really curious what you think of it. I was super excited for the book, but I stopped the ARC after the first chapter. =\
