Updates from the Lair 5/15/16

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Fun fact: one year ago today I got legally married :D. We’re using our family wedding in October as our official anniversary date, but still fun ;-). Tomorrow I start teaching intro programming all by myself and I’m quite excited! So yeah, life is exciting, forgive me for failing at responding to comments. I’m much better at responding on Twitter, so feel free to tweet me!

My Week

SteeplejackI devoured Steeplejack this week! It’s a fast action read with a great set of characters and a cool world. Definitely recommended!

The Summer DragonAnd shortly I’ll be finishing The Summer Dragon which I have also quite enjoyed! The dragons are awesome and can kind of use human words, which obviously leads to adorable moments.

The Voodoo KillingsI got the audiobook of The Voodoo Killings so I’ve started that too. I’m really enjoying it so far even though I tend not to like zombies. I love the spin on urban fantasy where magic is known to be real to the public and the zombies aren’t scary. I definitely recommend the audiobook since it has been great so far. I even cleaned the bathtub listening to it!

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

I miraculously have gotten through all my June ARCs during Bout of Books, so I’m going to tackle my two July ones so that I don’t have to stress about them while I’m teaching. Then it’ll be all eARCs and whatever I want to read, woot! So I’ll give The Voyage to Magical North a try since it looks freaking adorable. I’ll see if Chasing Stars captures my interest since I was neutral about the first book. And then I think I’ll read my eARC of The Vanishing Throne to try to deal with the torture of the previous book’s cliffhanger. If there is another cliffhanger, I’m going to be pissed!

Happy Reading!

  1. Happy anniversary!! What sort of programming do you teach? I used to be a web developer full-time before I transitioned to being a full-time author. But I still love to program!

  2. Happy unofficial, official anniversary, Anya! Best of luck on the programming course! I know you’ll figure it all out and do fine, and hopefully have a bit of fun, too. :) Also, totally jealous of your consistent reading routine! I’ve been done with finals for almost a week (though the journal write-on competition started >.>), and I only feel like watching brainless movies and TV. Failure. :P Though the Goosebumps movie was appropriately silly for my current mood. Thank you, Netflix!

So you enjoyed Steeplejack? Awesome! I’m really interested in hearing more about that book when it comes out. :D

  4. Happy first anniversary! And congrats on your teaching. Good luck!

Summer of the Dragon sounds good. It’s cool that an illustrator wrote a book!
