Updates from the Lair 5/6/16

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Hello loves! Pretty normal week here, but I decided to try something new this week: I’ve started a bookTube channel (i.e. a YouTube channel about books). I found it fun making the video so I figure it will be a low-stress addition to the blog and a fun way to interact with that huge community. I’d love if you subscribed and here’s the updates video:

My Week

The Star-Touched QueenWow The Star-Touched Queen rocked! It’s a fantasy that draws heavily on Indian mythology for a beautiful Hades/Persephone sort of story. The writing is absolutely fantastic, Maya is my favorite kind of heroine, and there is a hilarious demon horse. Don’t be scared away by thinking it’s romance-heavy, there is definitely romance, but the world has so much to offer beyond that.

A Creature of MoonlightI just finished A Creature of Moonlight and it was also wonderful! I’m so glad I finally got the excuse to read it (thanks Christina!!!). The writing is wonderful and I loved the combination of spooky forests, dragons, and a girl who really doesn’t want to put up with court drama.

I started the audiobook of Revisionary on a very snowy drive and am now close to finishing it! Audiobooks make driving through storms a lot easier since I don’t mind taking it slow ;-). I’m really loving this final Libriomancer book, I think it’s going to be a fantastic end to this series.

A Local Habitation
Finally, we started our read along of A Local Habitation this week! This second book gets off to a bang and I’m already really tempted to rush the reading schedule to find out what happens next :D.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

The Secrets of Solace The Buccaneers' Code Rebel of the Sands Dissension

I’m traveling for a very special wedding at the end of this week, so all the reading time on the drive! I’ve already read the first few pages of The Secrets of Solace and The Buccaneers’ Code so I need to actually focus and get into both of those. I’m really excited for both though since I love those middle grade series. And then I always need to have ebooks lined up for the drive when it gets dark, so I think I’ll be reading Rebel of the Sands and Dissension!

Happy Reading!

  2. That’s great about The Star-Touched Queen! Can’t wait to read your review. I’m also looking forward to Rebel of the Sands. That one has been getting a lot of hype, though, and after my recent bad luck with hugely hyped books, I’m kind of hesitant to check it out….

    • I read the first chapters of Rebel of the Sands and I do think I’m going to continue with it at some point, though it hasn’t blown my mind. It’s very much a western set in an Arabic-style setting, which is an interesting mix
