Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Hello! It’s been a pretty darn productive week including unpacking and lots of coding and reading research papers. I got the wedding ring resized finally and the engagement ring is back with its diamond replaced! I have to admit that I’ve been so excited about coding up this research simulation that I haven’t been super into reading this week, but I still made progress ;-). And really this is probably how things should be, since I was prioritizing fun reading a bit too much for a bit there!

My Week

Siren's FurySiren’s Fury is my current e-read and wow it is going a different way than I expected! I had a bit of trouble reconnecting with the characters and world, but I’m liking the new world-building and powers that we’re seeing.

The Maloney's Magical WeatherboxI figured that The Maloney’s Magical Weatherbox would be a cute and light read and it definitely is, but it also has a pretty interesting magical world. The main characters’ dad is The Weatherman who escorts the seasons through a telephone box when it is time for them to change. There are also witches and a cat that isn’t really a cat and can grow to be very very big!

Half WildI’m still unable to use Audible so I’ve been working through older audio review books instead and am currently listening to Half Wild finally! It is a little slow so I had to switch when I was tired driving, but I do really like Nathan and especially the narration.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Witherwood Reform School A Book of Spirits and Thieves

I found myself without my Kindle for a bit and so started Witherwood Reform School on my phone just to see how it was and it was hilarious! It looks like it’ll be everything I love in middle grade, so I’ll be starting that next. Then I snagged an audio review book of A Book of Spirits and Thieves so I’ll be giving that a try. Falling Kingdoms didn’t work for me, but I’m hoping I like this series better!

Happy Reading!

  3. Yay for being productive, that’s always a good thing! I still haven’t read Storm Siren, but it sound like Siren’s fury is off to an okay start, so yey! Hope you end up really enjoying it. Have a great week :)

    • Of course the next week I always slump back to less productive huh? ;-) Siren’s Fury ended up being a lot of fun :D

  4. You’ve been productive. :) Witherwood Reform School sounds promising, I’ll keep an eye out for your review.

    • Oh god, stay away from Witherwood Reform School, it was so weird and disappointing and completely lacked any ending to speak of D:

  5. Can’t wait to see your thoughts on Siren’s Fury! I had a bit of character disconnect, too.

    • Isn’t that weird how you just don’t feel like you know some characters and others you are best friends?

  6. I’m glad your ring is fixed and ready! I had to re-size mine twice because the first place didn’t measure me properly and it was way too big for the wedding.
I liked Falling Kingdoms but I’m a few books behind and I have to re-read the first one, but i want to read a Book of Spirits and Thieves, I’m not sure but I think its a spin-off?
    Have a great week!

    • I’m now thinking I might need to resize this one again since it is definitely bigger than 8.25, must be closer to 8.5 and it shifts around on my finger, sigh. Guess I just need to gain more weight haha!

Yeah, Book of Spirits and Thieves is apparently a spin off series so I’m hoping I can jump in there.

  7. Try not to feel too bad about not reading much this past week – at least you have a good excuse. I feel like there are just too many books to read at the moment, so what do I do? Stop reading entirely, except for a chapter here and there. Sigh. Hopefully we both get some more reading done this coming week :) I’m curious to see how you’ll end up liking Siren’s Fury. I didn’t like the first book all that much and had decided to give up on the series but now that I see the next installment everywhere, I’m feeling (predictably) tempted. Happy reading hun^^ x

    • I completely know that feeling! I get so overwhelmed sometimes and just don’t want to deal, ha.

What didn’t you like about Storm Siren? It was pretty similar to book one for me so I suspect you should resist ;-)
