Updates from the Lair 6/12/16

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Hello everyone! Things I learned this week: monitoring a midterm is exhausting, there will always be cheaters, there will always be typos. Overall my first ever test went really well though! And it was easy enough for me to accept a second answer on the questions that had typos, so no harm done. I also learned that as someone who likes to use lots of fancy words, I need to be mindful of how many students I have that aren’t native English speakers when I write exams….

Brief mention, if you are on Instagram, I’m doing a rep search for Books on Dragonwings!

Anyway, on to the reading!

My Week

How to Hang a WitchI really didn’t know what to expect when diving in to How to Hang a Witch, but I ended up really enjoying it! There are a lot of great details about Salem that made it feel very authentic and just enough spooky moments to keep me hooked without making me unable to sleep haha. There is also a strong theme of bullying and the damage it does that made me really connect with our heroine, Sam. Definitely recommended!

The Accidental HighwaymanI also burned through the audiobook of The Accidental Highwayman because I saw my library had it available :D. I’ve been meaning to read this one forever, so I was happy to finally get to it, but ended up finding it rather mediocre unfortunately. The plot wanders terribly and all the characters felt very trope-tastic.

Wicked EmbersI did also make progress on the books I said I was going to read, including Wicked Embers :D. I’ll probably finish it today if nothing else comes up! This is a fun urban fantasy series and I’m glad I grabbed it from the library. I love series that pull in mythology I’m not familiar with already and the villain definitely fits that bill.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

A Shadow Bright and Burning Paper and Fire

There seems to be a theme to my upcoming books, hmmmm. I’m planning on reading A Shadow Bright and Burning next week since I’m on the blog tour for it and I like to get those things taken care of asap. I think I’ll also be starting Paper and Fire as my next July read since that series rocks my socks and will keep me exercising ;-).

Happy Reading!

    • Yes! Just tweaked the name slightly to make it more obvious it’s a subscription box service: BooksonDragonwingsBox :)

  2. I’m over half way through Paper and Fire right now and it’s good, but I’m not sure I have quite the same level Wow! reaction as with the first. Still, it is a fun read and also, I’m not done yet!

  3. I’m glad your midterm went well! Thanks for the heads-up about The Accidental Highwayman. I had been eyeing it but I think I will pass.
