Updates from the Lair 6/14/15

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Quick, I’ve got a book to finish! I’m taking a short break from a binge-read to post ;-). I’ve definitely settled into my routine for the foreseeable future of working on research during the day and reading while the boy works on schoolwork after work. We’re driving back to Minnesota this week though and I only have four physical review books on my stack (two middle grades!) so I’m really hoping that I might finally get completely caught up on physical books :D.

Did I mention ever that I’m going to ALA with Pabkins this month? Are you going??

My Week

When the Heavens Fall by Marc TurnerThis is what I’m binge-reading! When the Heavens Fall was a complete surprise. I had sort of regretted requesting it when I realized how huge it was, but I started it Thursday I think and haven’t been able to stop. It’s everything I enjoy in an epic fantasy with awesome world-building, lots of magic, dead gods and other immortals and equal numbers female to male main characters! If you like epic fantasy, definitely pick it up :D.

Half WildI’m still listening to Half Wild and quite enjoying it. I’ve clearly gotten to the more action-packed half so I think I’ll be able to finish it quickly now. I had to switch to music while driving a few times this week since I was tired and there wasn’t much action, but it is still good. Gabriel needs his own spin-off series because I love him so much!

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Secrets of Selkie Bay Nightborn Earth Flight

I have actually read the first 4% of Resonance because I didn’t want to be reading two fantasies at the same time, and I’m thinking it’s the perfect car trip book! I love this world so much :D. I’m going to try to knockout as many of my physical ARCs as I can this week, so I’ll try Secrets of Selkie Bay, Nightborn and Earth Flight! Which should I read first??

Happy Reading!

  5. I need to read Half Wild — I really loved Half Bad and now that I have a boatload of books from BEA and Netgalley approvals (I went on a spree >.<) I just don't know when I will have the time! I should just go out and buy it so at least there's one less obstacle to me reading it!

    • Haha, that’s always how I feel about books I really want to get to, but then I end up with seriously overflowing shelves >.> *hides*

  6. Oh, I am super curious about Resonance – I can’t wait for your review!!!

  8. You might actually get caught up on physical reads? *bows to the master * I’m not sure I’ll ever say that sentence! Sounds like you have a good routine going – I need a better one myself. Have a good week, enjoy your binge read :)

    • My strategy of restraint is working! :D Of course then I’m going to ALA so then I’ll have all of those to read… But I’m going to try to be good about not grabbing too many there either!

  9. I was planning on skipping ‘When the Heavens Fall’ but now you got me intrigued… :)
I’m glad you found a routine that works for you. Have a nice week. :)

    • It’s pretty darn fun I must admit! Especially if you like magic and a world with different creatures and customs and a strong plot :D

  10. Yay for settling into a routine that works for your reading. BEA threw me out of my routine and I’ve been struggling to get back into some form of a system that works ever since. I *might* have figured it out but only the coming week will tell XD Good luck getting caught up on physical books during your drive out^^ Oh and WooHoo ALA :D with Pabkins!! I hope you ladies have a blast and I’ll be waiting for updates while wishing I was there with you both ♥

    • Haha, and of course since I’m going to ALA I’ll be in the same spot as you very soon! Always as soon as you feel like you’ve got a handle on things right??

  11. Good luck getting caught up on physical books! Every time I get close to being caught up on reviews, I find more or publishers send out emails and I can’t resist the titles on my wishlist lol.
I haven’t read any of your picks for books to read next, maybe go with Earth Flight first?
Have a great week with lots of reading! :)

    • Hehe, I know that as soon as I am nearly caught up some books will arrive in the mail that I forgot about, sigh
