Updates from the Lair 6/5/16

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Halfway done with teaching for the summer! My students have their midterm tomorrow, mwahahahaha. It isn’t too hard though, I think they’ll be fine ;-). I haven’t gotten a lot of reading done, but I did get some really exciting eARCs that have motivated me to get back to working out regularly. I’m only allowing myself to read them while working out and it’s worked so far :D.

My Week

ImprudenceMy current workout motivation is Imprudence! I absolutely looooooved book one and I seriously waffled on whether to wait for the audiobook for this one, since the first was fantastic. However, I can resist the allure of Rue and her gang. This series is absolutely fantastic and makes every minute on the treadmill worth it ;-).

I was fairly sure going in to The Aeronaut’s Windlass that I would enjoy it given how many of my book canaries have. I had no idea just how much I would enjoy it though! Talking cats and mad Etherialists and a mysterious surface and a strapping Aeronaut captain :D. The narration is fantastic and I’ve been finding excuses to listen to this audiobook as much as possible, ha.

Wicked EmbersI had a lot less time for reading physical books than I anticipated this week, so I’m not very far into Wicked Embers, but I’m quite enjoying it. The mystery is fascinating and I really love these characters and world. I always love urban fantasy that focuses on a mythology that is different from the usual and Wicked Embers promises that in spades!

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Of Fire and Stars Magic Study

I read the first bit of Of Fire and Stars and definitely think that’ll be my next read. I’m trying to check out books for the December Books on Dragonwings box, so that is up for consideration! I also am in the mood to jump into an older audiobook that I have waiting for me in my library so I think that might be Magic Study. I really enjoyed Poison Study when I listened to it ages ago, so I grabbed the next two with my last Audible credits before my book-buying ban ha.

Happy Reading!

  1. I’d be curious to read your thoughts on Magic Study after you read it. I didn’t think it was as good as Poison Study, but it was entertaining and dealt a lot more with magic (obviously!) than the first book.

  3. You definitely have me sold on Aeronaut’s Windlass^^ (not that I wasn’t already before – talking cats, hello!) but now it’s been bumped up my priority list LOL! Happy reading! xx

  4. Halfway there! And you’re evil laughing about torturing poor students with midterms? Yep, congrats: you’ve officially joined the dark side. We shall fondly remember your pre-teacher days, back when you were still a human being. ;)

  5. Nice selection of reads this week. My favorite format for reading is print books but I’ve been on my Kindle a lot recently. My Paperwhite lights up great in the dark and I don’t have to roll over and turn out the light at night when I’m done reading. LOL
