Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Hey loves! I’m back in Minnesota this week for a family reunion, so more driving! Unfortunately, the husband got a dreadful cold and I didn’t get hit quite as hard so I’ll probably have to do a fair amount of the driving D:. I do have some audiobooks I’ve been wanting to get to though, so it won’t be so bad ;-).

I don’t think I ever mentioned that I got a new domain for the blog so that you don’t have to type as much. The old one is still the main one, but typing StarsAndDragons.com will get you here too and is probably easier to remember :D. Also, I haven’t added all the books from ALA yet, but let me know which of the books on this shelf you’d like to have in a giveaway (besides the really big titles like Six of Crows and Rose Society which will have their own for sure, hehe). I’ll try to read the most popular ones first and will be doing ARC giveaways basically every Wednesday for a long time to come!

My Week

Range of Ghosts

I’m sooooo close to being finished with Range of Ghosts but haven’t quite fit in enough listening time. I’m really really loving the start to this trilogy and already downloaded the next two books. This is an older trilogy that was completed last year that you really need to read if you love unique fantasy <3.

Knight's ShadowI’m finally a decent way into Knight’s Shadow and am liking it much more. There was a point around 10% where I wasn’t sure that I wanted to continue it since I wasn’t in the right mood, but then when I thought of stopping, suddenly my argumentative brain decided it was now in the mood ;-). It’s not as funny as the previous book at all, but I’m liking the character development and world-building so far so I think it’ll be good in its own way.

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Firewalker The Golden Specific Hook's Revenge Full Fathom Five

My reading list hasn’t really changed from last week since I haven’t had a chance to read much before typing this post up (I’m writing it early because of traveling ;-)). However, I did snag Hook’s Revenge from my new library, so I’m bringing it along on the trip as well as everything else, mwahaha. We’re also going to be starting a read-along for Full Fathom Five very soon, so I’ll be starting that and you should join us :D.

Happy Reading!

  2. I grabbed the Knight’s Shadow at BEA, but I haven’t read the first book yet. Do you think I can jump in and still understand everything or do you really need to read Book 1 first? Happy travels!

    • Yeah, it’s so tiring for some strange reason! Normally I don’t mind just sitting and reading but oof I’m getting sick of it haha

  4. That’s a lot of driving! Have fun with your family.

  6. Hope you do stick with Knight’s Shadow – I had a few nagging problems with the first, but this was one of my favorite reads so far this year.

  7. Hook’s Revenge sounds like it’ll be lots of fun! And I love Peter Pan stories. Will have to look both for the book, and your review. Have fun at your reunion!

    • I didn’t have the chance to read it yet, but I’m still excited for it, I’ve heard great things and haven’t read many Pan retellings I don’t think so it’ll be fresh :D

  8. Oh I’m sorry that you and the hubby both got sick but at least one of you is a bit better to do the driving and all that (more driving?!?!) Enjoy your trip and I hope that you both feel better soon! ♥

Oh and I’m sort of feeling the same way about Knight’s Shadow O.O I’m around page 140 and it doesn’t seem like I’m making any progress at all. Hopefully I get past the hump like you did! Happy reading love! xx

    • All the driving! Living just close enough to family to be able to drive in a day is a bit troublesome :(

Oh Knight’s Shadow, how did you end up liking it?

  9. I’ve been holding off reading “Full Fathom Five” so that I can do so for the readalong. Can’t wait until it starts!

  10. Thanks for reminding me to read Firewalker!!! I forgot I had that – oops… I need to update my TBR list! I’m so unorganized right now!

Oh, and those ARCs to giveaway? Just stick them all in a box and mail them to 3943 Ston… HA! I’m so kidding! That’s great you’re giving them away! I need to go through mine and start spreading the love!

    Safe travels!!!

    • Yes do it! I hear ya, my organization is basically just a pile next to the couch currently with updating goodreads when I think of it >.>

      Bwahahaha, nice try ;-)

  11. I’m extremely jealous of you having a copy of Firewalker – I wasn’t the biggest pusher for Trail by Fire, but I love Angelini as an author, and her writing is wonderful, so I can’t wait to see what you think of that book. So sorry to hear about your husband getting a cold, but driving is okay when you can still ‘read’, so best of luck for your week ahead Anya! :)
