Updates from the Lair 7/10/16

Updates from the Lair

Updates from the Lair is my weekly wrap-up post that includes what happened in my real life, what I’ve been reading, my posts from the week, and what I’m thinking about reading next week (and would love your advice on!).

Hello everyone! Have you all been obsessively refreshing Pokemon Go and crashing the servers when I want to play????? ;-) Well if you haven’t, you should go download Pokemon Go and join Team Mystic with me :D. I’ve found that I can listen to an audiobook while walking around looking for Pokemon, so that’s been fun. Now if the servers would just stay up, I’d get all the audiobooks read and all the walking in!

My Week

Late EclipsesI’m REALLY enjoying Late Eclipses, to the point where I might just jump ahead of the read along and binge read this week. This is the exact mystery set up I love and I am getting seriously strong feelings for these beloved secondary characters who are dying on me D:.

NevernightIt’s taking me a while to read Nevernight not because it isn’t good but because I’m clearly working through a mini reading slump. The end of the summer semester lined up with a change in my head meds so I just feel all out of whack every time I sit down to read. I’m hoping to finish this week though!

The Waking FireThe Waking Fire is a very long but very enjoyable audiobook and the perfect book to read while walking and driving. The world and dragons are so cool and I highly recommend it to epic fantasy fans looking for a spin on dragons ;-).

And in case you missed it, these were my posts this week:

Next Week’s Reading

(books up next on the reading list, thoughts?)

Part of my mini reading slump has been due to feeling like there are a million books I HAVE TO READ. So instead of adding to that feeling, I am going to declare this coming week a free week with no plans! What are you going to read??? :D

Happy Reading!

  1. There are no Pokemon or Poke stops or anything around my house. Which is sad. But! My work is epic! There are THREE poke stops and a gym in my building! So I play a lot on Sundays when it’s super slow at work. People keep using Lures for nearly my entire shift, which means I don’t have to spend a penny on the game, and still get the benefits. *laughs*

A -little- sad though because I learned days after I started playing that I could have had Pikachu as my starter! Apparently when the 3 you can pick from appear, if you walk away from them three times, the game will spawn a Pikachu as well and you can pick it. Ah well!

  2. There is a Pokemon Go stop on the grounds of my work (which are locked when we aren’t open), this has led to some trespassing problems. Plus there have been some traffic accidents in our city when people either stop or back up when they shouldn’t.

Waking Fire looks really good, glad to hear that the audio is good also

  3. Awww I hope you feel better soon my friend! I’ve been seriously tempted to start in on Pokemon but work has been so busy lately, I’m not sure if it’s a good idea LOL! I can’t wait to see how you like Nevernight…if you can shake off your reading slump that is :)

  4. I’ve been seriously considering giving Pokemon Go a try! But I only have data on my phone when I’m connected to WiFi, so I’m not sure it’s worth it for the few places I’ll have access. And I’m not willing to ditch my $10/month plan for one app, no matter how cool and nostalgic. ;)

The end of summer does seem an out-of-whack, reading slumpy kind of time, doesn’t it? I was feeling the same way. (Still kind of am.) And the fall semester is right around the corner. Yay. :P I hope you enjoy what’s left of summer!

  5. I’m finishing up Shutter Man by Richard Montanari (started out great; getting leggy) and The Victim by Eric Matheny (completely awesome so far).

  6. I think I must be the only person NOT playing Pokemon Go. XD I was never much of a video game person, but gosh do I remember Pokemon. My brother (5 years younger than me) loved the games and anime show – and I just wanted Pikachu for a pet. *lol*

I just started Marie Lu’s Legend last night; it’s too bad so far. After that will be Rachel Caine’s Paper and Fire. I liked Ink and Bone a lot, so I’m hoping this one won’t be a “second book slump.”

  7. Nothing causes a reading slump faster than feeling like I have to read!

I can’t even get Pokemon Go to load on my phone! ? Which I suppose is better than my sister’s which freezes every time a Pokemon shoes up haha!
